I have yet to use my Black 3.0, but I've been watching a lot of videos on it and there's apparently a lot of little quirks that tend to make people's results less than desirable. For starters, you're supposed to apply a very small volume of paint to your brush and spread a light coat...applying additional paint as needed in equally small amounts to the brush. You then let it dry for, at least, two hours...else it'll lighten up for whatever the reason. It's said that applying heat via a blowdryer and letting that first coat sit for an entire 24 hours produces the best results possible. Then you're supposed to apply your second coat and, if need be, repeat that process for a third coat to maximize the blackness. Then they, apparently, developed a matt varnish that doesn't reduce the effect too drastically because, as you pointed out, people were having some issues with keeping the paint on with certain materials. It's out of stock right now though, much to my dismay. Also, you're apparently supposed to prime or seal it depending upon the material...with Black 2.0, apparently, being the best priming material or some sort of glue for a sealing material. He's got a new video talking about all this...so, perhaps that's why your results were less exciting than you had hoped. Might want to try your luck again, but perhaps not...I'd take a look at his video on using it and see if you're keen to try your luck again. With you being a skeptic after this attempt, it would be interesting to see a video of you doing it with all the steps he details to maximize your results. He seems to stress that you can get some really weird results if it hasn't dried for, at least, two hours prior to a second coat. Apparently the quick drying is an illusion, heh...even with the hair dryer. Take care, man.

The problem with these super black paints is that they are not designed for durability. For a delicate paint such as this, it is meant for artwork where you can sometimes get away without a varnish. For a guitar you would certainly need a varnish, which would defeat the purpose of the blackness. If you want to try a deep black maybe look at Golden Carbon Black. A flat/matte topcoat will help with durability but will create some reflectivity.
@jordythebassist4 жыл бұрын
I think the issue you had was that you didn't seal the body of the guitar first and it was absorbing the paint. I'm doing a bass soon and will be using the Black 2.0 or 3.0

I think you’re right. They recommend doing a base coat of 2.0 first which will probably yield better results. There is no doubt a little camera trickery that doesn’t have the same result in person.

Did it wrong. You are supposed to use black 2.0 as a base and then wait 24 hours before 3.0. You also literally put it on the guitar too thickly. This is what happens. Using it incorrect it makes a grey colour

@@spurlock541 I just re-read my comment... my bad for sounding like a douche bag instead of giving critical advice. Context is lost in text and I sounded way worse than it was meant to my man. That paint is very temperamental and most people expect it to act like a super paint (as it should considering the price) and just slap it on expecting amazing results. I knew you done fucked up when your guitar looked gray. This paint loves the camera and usually looks way better and darker on camera than it does in person. I recommend Mouso Black. It is easier to use and makes Black 3.0 look gray when it is next to it. Again... sorry for coming off like such a prick man.
