Not sure words can do this justice, but just want to say a huge 'thank you' on behalf of the viewers. It looks mad enough simply trying to climb this on its own... but to also handle the camera equipment and do the filming, and to edit and present the hike/climb as though we were all there with you. Wow! Thanks so much, and hope the recovery was good!

Thanks so much for saying that! You are totally right that the hardest part of this one was the filming -- especially for poor Adam who often had to go off cable in order to get shots of me climbing! It definitely presents a challenge in terrain like this, but was so worth the effort in order to capture and share this adventure. Really happy you enjoyed it!! ❤️

Ok, that is not only out of my comfort zone that is way into my terror zone. I found you something new today, in addition to physical toughness you have to be super mentally tough for these challenges. We all know Adam is a mountain goat, but Elise really showed us her stuff on this she killed it, so impressed. Stay safe guys.

Thank you so much for saying that! I've been working really hard on my climbing skills and fitness in the gym, and it felt great to have that translate to real climbs when I needed it. It sometimes took me a little while to get warmed up and confident with how simultaneously vertical and slick the rock was, but once I got used to it I was definitely all in!! ❤️ --E

Fantastic, so impressive! Loved the dialog at 6:00..LOL! Almost seems like on “hikes” like this, taking a pair of rock shoes along for certain sections might be useful. Elise, very smart of you to forgo Adam’s lunch spots, for sure 😀. Love the way you are showing us these places and adventures, great angles on the filming. Keep up the fun, and adventure. You guys are a great team. 💪👏👍

Thanks much Paul, and that was absolutely something we considered when we were packing our gear for this trip. Ultimately, we decided not to bring the climbing shoes because we figured we could use the cables to assist us when necessary (as we did on this one when it was really vertical and slippery). However, once we acquire more trad climbing experience we will definitely be bringing our climbing shoes, gear, and a rope back to the Dolomites so that we can also do some of the incredible but sketchy climbs where there is no via ferrata available! ❤️

Thanks Larry -- stoked you liked the tunnels! We felt the same way. It was freaking incredible to be able to climb and experience a place where so much important war history happened, and the Italians have done a fantastic job preserving the tunnels and letting us see like how the soldiers slept, where they got water, etc. That part was like an intense climb and a cool historical experience all at once! ❤️

Thanks Todd! Hikes like this are really interesting, because it's a totally different kind of fitness than a cardio sufferfest. It's more like these brief bouts of intense all-over body effort followed by a rest to catch your breath, and then doing it over and over again. It's almost like doing a weights and bodyweight workout for multiple hours, so the next day your legs are less sore than after something like Rim to Rim, but instead you have a kind of all-over body soreness. In terms of holistic fitness, it's a great complement to the more purely cardio stuff. ❤️

@@LiveHardxLoveHard It's SO impressive, because there's that (what you just explained) AND it's combined with that fear/adrenaline/oh sh!t as you are hanging onto something vertical, with 3,000' of air below you. I could feel that in my arms and legs. GNARLY my friends, GNARLY!!!

In May is a little too soon for high altitude ferattas. It's going to be snow and ice complicating the route ten fold. Choose lower altitudes, for example Sci Club 18 in Faloria right next to Cortina d'Ampezzo. Feratta season is July, early October in Eastern Dolomites but snow can fall anytime after mid September and most rfugios are closing down around that time.

It is a special, unique composition of limestone. Limestone is a relatively soluble rock creating amazing peaks, faces, ridges, valleys and caves. Dolomites is chok full of these features. It is also a friable rock and can make climbs dicey or sketch as Elise puts it, 😁

You guys definitely have some balls of steel! At some point my legs got shaky just watching you! Thanks Kari, and you've definitely hit on the biggest mental hurdle for this kind of climb. It's really important to trust the cables, harness, and tethers or else you end up over-gripping your holds which wears your hands and forearms out really fast and makes a long climb impossible. But the way to get used to it is just to practice top-rope climbing in a gym, which is a nice safe and controlled environment, and then once you've done that enough it's a lot easier to trust gear outdoors in the wild. ❤️
@kari4295
@kari4295 2 жыл бұрын
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Thank you for that insight. It makes a lot of sense because I think I would have just been hanging on to the rope the entire time but it sounds like you definitely cannot do that and you have to really just climb on the rocks like you guys were doing.
@LiveHardxLoveHard
@LiveHardxLoveHard 2 жыл бұрын
@@kari4295 Yes we probably use the rocks more than most people, because ultimately we want to add actual rock climbing to our adventure repertoire and via ferratas are great practice for that. But whether you use primarily cable or rocks the main thing is to be relaxed and not over-grip (which is especially easy to do with the cable), and find good footholds to use your feet as much as possible.

Thanks Phyllis, and don't worry! We were really vigilant about clipping into the cables on the sketchy parts, so the farthest we would have fallen in those dicey places was about 15 feet. Huge congrats, Ashish -- it's definitely a Dolomites rite of passage!! Indescribably awesome!! For you two, a piece of cake, huh? My question is ... WHO/HOW were those cables installed way bak when ... !?!?!?
@LiveHardxLoveHard
@LiveHardxLoveHard 2 жыл бұрын
That's a great question. They were originally put in during WWI when the Italian army was battling the Austrian army for supremacy in the mountains. The cables allowed the soldiers to climb up to strategic high points. Since then, we assume the Italian government has maintained them because they def didn't seem corroded or in bad shape as you would expect cables that had been there for over 100 years to be!

Thanks Larry! Hope you could tell we took our time and were really extra safe on this one -- even Adam was clipped in the vast majority of the time. Of course a fall would still result in some scrapes and bruises, but the tethers would almost certainly have prevented anything fatal. That really helped us to be able to enjoy the climb! ❤️

Haha we love the High Line trail, Grace! We had an opportunity to trail run it about 5 years ago and still remember it vividly. But ya, if that one was scary for you then this one would for sure be over the top! ❤️

That was bonkers.... on that scree you just need to full send it down lol (I'd probably be tip toeing down too)
@LiveHardxLoveHard
@LiveHardxLoveHard 2 жыл бұрын
Haha yeah we're not above sending it on scree either (well Adam isn't, anyway), but if you'd seen this one in person you'd be like...no. The issue was extreme steepness with very little depth to the scree, so you couldn't "ski" it down because there was nothing to sink your foot into so you'd just slip, fall and then slide. It was nasty for sure!

Oh guys, this was the third of your videos I broke out in sweat just watching you two - and I didn't miss that😅 Still I am happy that you are able to enjoy your honeymoon-journey in Europe so much 😊👍 Although I don't want to motivate you to try even more dangerous things, I have to repeat that I love what you're doing and that you developed so much over the last year, especially in your climbing-abilities! Already looking forward to your next adventures - please take care and stay save! PS: I dropped you something via your Blog-Page - if that one is still active 😊

Thanks so much, Andre! We're really happy you're enjoying the honeymoon adventures, and don't worry, we've got a couple coming up that are really fun but not too scary -- one of them will be us trying to hike all of Rome in a day! ❤️

Hey guys. I'm a Washington mountaineer so N Cascades, Olympics and Rainier are my jam. I first came across your videos a few days ago looking at Mt Whitney which I considered this month but not really sure October is the best month for the MR? This video is amazing! The views and what a great challenge but what I was thinking was.....this is not a hike lol! Don't let any of those haters bother you from your video in Zermatt. I've turned around plenty of times on a mountain as well if it didn't make sense to go further or just wasn't smart to continue. You guys are a fun couple and do some cool stuff I'd def climb with you anytime. Cheers :)

Justin we love it up there in the PNW! We're trying to find a month to get up and hike those exact areas. Meanwhile, you're right that via ferratas are kind of their own category. On the one hand, they're basically class 4 hikes -- like, you could theoretically do them without protection and they wouldn't be more dangerous than a hard class 4 hike since you always have the cables to hold on to. With that said though, pretty much everyone uses a harness and via ferrata tethers to do them and you'd definitely get looked down on for not using protection, so calling it a hike was bit of a stretch. Totally recommend it though -- one of the funnest ways ever to climb up a mountain! ❤️

@@LiveHardxLoveHard I was in Zermatt in 2015 late October but didn't have time to hike just went up the Gornergrat Bahn which was amazing at 10,000 feet all those peaks surrounding the Matterhorn. I'd love to get back there and do a few of these hikes. I did hike in Poland Rysy Peak in the Tatra's and Moldoveanu Peak in the Carpathian's of Romania. I noticed there and a few other countries in Europe it's common to see permanent cables or chains on popular hikes and I've always wondered why we don't have that more in the US. Seems sensible in no fall zones for the average hiker. Obviously being clipped in for these via ferratas is crucial. I wouldn't do any of those without that protection. Wish you guys the best!

So cool to see the ferrata me and my gf did three of weeks ago! The galleria was crazy, we also did it uphill. Fascinating tunnels that were actually used by the Italiaan troops to get to a position overlooking the Austrians safely. Totally out of our world.

Maurits that's awesome that you were just there -- and good for you guys for doing it the uphill way! Apparently about 90% of people take the cable car and then do Lagazuoi downhill, but it's so much cooler going up -- you really get a feel for what those soldiers lives must have been like in there. As you say, out of our world and really marvelous to experience!❤
