Condolences for your loss..I lost my Dad in 2003 I miss him the memories live on. He taught me safe firearms handling and how to hunt..matter of fact my very first hunting trips with him before I was of legal age to hunt (more like a 'walk along') with a firearm was with my Daisy 'Spittin Image' BB gun..a copy of the famous Winchester Model 1894 rifle and my favorite BB gun of all time. Many years later I gave for a Christmas present to my daughter a Daisy 'Red Ryder' BB gun and taught her how to shoot with it..many pleasant hours spent on our indoor range with that iconic BB gun.

Brother, deepest condolences for the family. Many prayers for the AGD family through this difficult holiday season. A huge hug from Oklahoma! Grab ahold of that new little blessing and hold her as tight as possible knowing life is so incredibly short. Commenting before finishing: First, my wife and I prayed for Frank and for peace for your family. Also, I'm glad you are doing a video on the Red Rider. Might I gently recommend (or re-recommend) a look at the budget line of bb pistols, particularly the 1911s made by Barra and Crosman? The reason it would be good is the same reason the Red Rider is good. These are budget airguns of a caliber (pun intended) with the Air Rider. You might also look at the Daisy Powerline ... 340 (I think) as it's a common starter gun that can be bought for $20 or so. The 1911 budget springers would be a great addition to your 1911 series (the "bottom of the barrel" episode (another pun)). The list of budget guns is huge, and frankly there's a little more variety in what you see. The rifles tend to be sort of the same at the pricepoint. I think the Red Rider is the only springer rifle of its kind being sold, and the Barra 1866 junior is a single-stroke nematic, but other than that, all the budget guns seem to be multi-pump offerings that can shoot loads of bb or a single pellet at between 600-800 feet per second. Meanwhile, there's a lot of variety in the budget air pistol line (I'm calling anything under $60 or so budget) you have the 1911 springers I mentioned, the (different system) Daisy Springer, the very similar and largely silly Umarex DX17 and Marksman 1018 (which are springers of a completely different type), the Crosman American Classic and Umarex Strikepoint (multipump pneumatics), the Beeman P17 (a single-stroke pneumatic that's actually a pretty good target pistol), the Browning and Ruger break-barrels from Umarex, and a plethora of CO2 offerings that use virtually the same technology and stick mag. Point is, it'd be good to see the mystery taken out of these guns as well, particularly around this time of year when people are looking for the best value for money. Some of these cheaper guns are diamonds in the rough. Some are great if you take particular care of them. Some are good if you don't expect too much. Some are weird but fun (I'm looking at the lightly fieldstrippable 1911 and Daisy 340 springers), some are customizable (the American Classic and P17), and some are just awful or at least completely not worthwhile compared to similar offerings at the price. Anyway, thanks for making great content, and again, our sympathies are with your family.

I get really excited to see airgun reviews by you and only one or two other content creators. Each of you is unique and provides a solid experience of the airgun. Sorry to hear about your Loss. Condolences to you & your Family. Great video by the way ! Very interesting to hear about the history of the Daisy Red Rider. We have just ordered the Daisy Red Ryder Fun Kit - 4.5mm BB Air Rifle. In the UK from Pellpax at £54.99 with Vat. They only had the Standard rifle version of the Red Rider over here. So it was good to know that it is only the Stock that is different between the Adult & the Standard Version which was very helpful to know. My wife and I are just getting in too Airguns over here in the UK and I have setup my own little private Range at a small woodland I own. I have watched a few of your Reviews and also bought a Benjamín Trail NP Mark II. Excellent Pistol thanks for the informative Review on that one too. I have a Remington compact which is my main Rifle which I will be using for pest control at my woodland for the Grey Squirrels as they are an invasive species over here. I originally bought it for my wife as was looking at a Gamo Whisper break barrel rifle for myself but as my wife could not cock the rifle I have kept this one for myself & have now ordered her a Umarex NXG APX - .177 Air Rifle as she will hopefully find this easier to use as she only does Target shooting / Plinking so will not be doing pest control. What is your thoughts on the NXG APX have you done a review on this rifle?

So sorry for your loss! Love this review of my 1st airgun from about late 1950s! Soon to be followed by a pump action Daisy BB(more power), and then various other airguns until, 1 Christmas when I was dreaming of a Crossman pump up pellet rifle, or maybe even a Sheridan, under the tree, got a major surprise with a Remington Nylon 66 semi auto 22LR! I was in heaven with my 1st "real" gun, but these days I have really got back into air rifles.

Wow, does that ever bring back some fond memories as a kid shooting one in a ravine near my home. The one I had came with a sort of leather cover at the back of the stock. Like you, I have no idea what happened to it. The saying that it can take your eye out is true, but in my case I let a friend fire mine and the BB bounced back and cracked one of his teeth. Needless to say, I wasn’t very popular around his home anymore. But, the bottom line is that these rifles are a whole lot of fun to play around with, for such a small cost. Very sorry for your loss. He will be fondly remembered. Loved your video. 👍👍

I started off with the Daisy Pal rifle. Which is now called the Buck rifle. Later I got for Christmas just a standard Daisy lever action that wasn't the Red Ryder. I shot that gun for years. Lasted longer than any of the BB/pellet guns I bought too. I lost the front sight cap in it and my neighbor, who was an excellent mechanic, took the tip of a broom handle, hollowed it out perfectly, put a nail in it for a front sight, and it was ALWAYS on target. I still have it, but the way the new front sight was put on I will never be able to take it apart for a proper restoration.

If you want increased fps, don't use Crosman copper-coated BBs. Why? They are undersized, which means more air escapes around the BB when the BB is going down the barrel. Also, the Crosman BB bounces down the barrel since its smaller. Next, the barrel is a rolled piece of metal, and so it has a seam. I coat the outside of the soda-straw barrel with shrink tubing, to keep less air escaping. Next, I coat the inside of the barrel with Chrome Molly, (out of a spray can), by soaking the mop of a cleaning rod with the Chrome Molly. Use match-grade BBs. I have six of the Red Ryder, and one is very accurate. Taking the rifle apart is tricky, to get the keeper clip removed. You have to push on the spring to relieve tension.

Thanks for the detailed comments. I was never a fan of the copper BBs, the rust really easy, especially when they land in the pool. 😉👍🏻

Great tips! I plan on trying the shrink-wrap for certain and a chrony comparo of the Daisy steel versus Crosman copper BBs! I also spray a bit of silicone into BB containers to aid the barrel and to prevent rust. Thanks again for the tips!

I thought BB came from the original ammo size - BB (4.5mm) lead shot?

The copper plated BB will rust, I haven’t had that problem with the zinc plated ones. Rust is not good for the internal parts of the gun. The gun is made in China under a very good supervision of its owners Gamo.

THE FINAL REGRET WILL BE THE WORST! If you do not diligently search to find-out if Jesus Christ was God in the flesh, and instead chose to believe the worldly lies, either because you were too lazy or too proud, the day will come in which you will have the greatest of all regrets, a day that will be too late for you to turn back and choose salvation, the forgiveness of your sins which Jesus the son of God offered you by dying on a cross. --DO NOT BE FOOLISH, ETERNAL TORMENT AWAITS EVERYONE THAT REJECTS THE MERCIFUL SALVATION FOUND IN JESUS CHRIST!!
