Aside from the potential damage to the barbell I'm curious to see how the plates themselves hold up after a large number of drops compared to traditional designs.
@mrkang40803 ай бұрын
I'd argue the plate is best suited for home use, protect your floors from accidental drops... not necessarily intended for Oly lifts.
@totallynotpaul62113 ай бұрын
I wouldn't be worried about the bar or the plates. I'd be more worried about the floor. Half the size means double or more than double the impact when the same weight hits the ground.
@MushookieMan4 ай бұрын
You'll never lift enough to need to fit more on the bar. Better to just buy ones that will last longer and not cut your flooring up.

Lots of things are plate loaded and unfortunately have really short weight horns. My old leg extension machine could fit 2 45s of my Rogue urethane bumps. I’m not a big dude and that’s well short of what I needed. Agree most folks aren’t maxing out barbells, but there’s still plenty of use cases for thin plates, including bumpers.

Yeah, even if you look at world records in Olympic lifting, the world record for the clean and jerk is 588lbs, Or roughly 6 plates. You might struggle fitting 6 of the thicker bumper plates on each side, but the competition plates have no issue what so ever. And mind you, even if you are Lasha himself, you’re probably doing 4-5 plates max in training, meaning even the thickest bumper plates will be fine.
@ChristopherFrank-ul6bk4 ай бұрын
I use their iron plates for deadlifting. They are .75” thick and the handle makes them easy to move. You can absolutely add more weight with these than humanly possible to lift
@eklimas1234 ай бұрын
I don't really get it. If you need bumpers, buy quality bumpers/deep dish that spread the load across the sleeve and floor on impact. If you want thin/compact, buy iron and mix/match accordingly to your lifting needs. If buying for aesthetics, so be it I guess, my comment is more function over form

It really just depends on the need. Everyone has different uses. I wouldn’t need bumpers, but I’ve got their plates for my loadable dumbbells so I could go with a shorter sleeve and still load up. I can get 5 10’s on each sleeve where a regular change pate I can only get 3 with the collar.

Coop, thanks for the review! I think one thing you could have spoken to is the specific applications that are benefitted by this design. To me, they are for someone that wants to load the bar HEAVY, and wants some added protection for the floor (assuming no rubber floor). For example, heavy deadlifting on concrete or an epoxy coated garage floor. I would not be dropping these from above waist height (or at all, really) so I think the benefit is pretty limited for the detriments. Anyway, love the channel, keep up the good work!

Marketing mistake. These aren’t bumper plates, they’re just rubber plates. They’re useful for taking up less space in home gyms and for taking up less space on plate loaded machines. That’s how they should be marketed. Can’t fit 12 regular plates on your compact leg sled, use these thin plates. Can’t fit 4 plates on your reverse hyper, use these instead. Running out of space for 25 plates in your 1-car garage? Use these thin plates instead. They dropped the ball with how these are advertised.
@mifster833 ай бұрын
This is a very niche plate, a part from it not taking up as much space, even if you have the thick plate which is around 7 cm most ppl wont fill up the bar in any lift. There are probably less thn 5% of ppl who would need a thinner plate for their max lifts
@ommaigod4 ай бұрын
If I used those, I'd make sure to use crash pads. I suspect those will transmit more shock through the stall mat to the concrete floor too, and no one should want cracked floors. Way too pricy for most home gymers who honestly don't lift that much to need more space on sleeve. Another cool thing that most shouldn't buy.

These are incredibly stupid as bumper plates. They are the worst of both worlds. They don’t actually provide the same protection as bumper plates to your floor. They provide less protection to the bar as well since they are thinner, and for lifts where you need. Bumper plate, you don’t need something this thin. These seem like great plates to use as every day plates. Maybe a good option for deadlifting where you don’t really need a bumper plate, but every now and again you do lower it with a bit more force than usual. But these shouldn’t be called bumper plates.
