What’s even scarier is that Caroline only served 15 years for the premeditated murder of a minor. She’s still young enough to rebuild her life and have opportunities that she took away from Rachel. I assume the sentencing took mental health issues into consideration, but she obviously knew that what she was doing was wrong because she went to such lengths that plan it out, hide it, and even came up with an elaborate lie to tell Rachel. She had multiple chances to change her mind and didn’t.

I cannot fathom how her mother must have felt. "If I had just gotten her those shoes"... the what if for a parent must be horrific. Though clearly it wouldn't have mattered. Caroline would have found some way to fulfill her plan no matter what. How anxious Rachel was and how fearful makes her death especially cruel. 20 years was not enough. If this were my child... That prison release would have been the beginning of my prison sentence. RIP sweet girl. Love and support to her family.

Yeah with their prior relationship, I don't even know why the job was a necessary element at all, she could probably have simply invited her over. A missing child is handled very different than a missing teen. Teens tend to come back 99.99% of the time while children do not unfortunately. Caroline obviously had way more than a garden variety case of breaking the 10th Commandment. She was (is, presumably) mentally ill. She has such a horrible case of body dysmorphia, depression, and low self esteem that she turned it outward towards this innocent child and sought to destroy her because Rachel became the symbol for everything Caroline wanted and could never have. The irony of it all is that the ways in which Rachel struggled with fear and depression, she probably would have traded beauty and talent for the ability to ride a train and live in an apartment all alone like Caroline did. I do hope Caroline is being made to have psychological help.

@justarandompepe89612 жыл бұрын
unfortunately its not that simple. if you have to blame anybody, blame all the teens that runaway. they created this mentality. the vast majority of missing teens are runaways that end up coming right back within a day or two. its because of this that cops don't bother to look, add on to that the sheer number of runaway teens and the limited number of cops and its not surprising that they don't hop to it, especially when they have other crimes and things going on. if they did so for every one that popped up, its all that cops would be doing. they wouldn't have time for anything else. a teen is also not the same a literal child (like 12 and under), they are treated as being able to somewhat take care of themselves (though 15 aint much better tbh). i don't think they do the 24 hr thing with actual children. yes, it sucks but i get why it is the way that it is. at the end of the day, the cops simply don't have the man power to send out a bunch of cops for every missing person, every single time, especially when they don't know if its actually a missing person or not.

Rachel obviously trusted Caroline, and Rachel also struggled with what seems very like agoraphobic tendencies (tendency, not saying she was). It seems like a perfect match that Rachel could've helped Caroline feel more beautiful and cared for, and Caroline could've helped Rachel build confidence in her own independence. Insane or not, Caroline should not be free. If she is crazy, she shouldn't be walking free so quickly after the heinous murder of a child. She is, but she didn't see herself that way. This was a very thought out crime so I'm thinking it's something a lot deeper than just jealousy. But it's possible I just can't wrap my head around it since Im not someone who gets over jealous.
@kayleigh36482 жыл бұрын
Right? And how she went on about how big her nose was… I’m like wtf?!? My nose 3-4 times as big as that lol. But ya, she didn’t have a large nose and didn’t look that badly overweight or have acne like all of her beliefs… Body dysmorphia maybe? Idk, she’s just psycho all around 😳

I was thinking the exact same thing: she even had that cute dimple you can tell makes a beautiful smile. But an ugly self perception is difficult to overcome. Still no excuse for her atrocious behavior. THAT makes her very, very ugly.

What a selfish person Caroline turned out to be! It's surprising that no one else close to her realized how imbalanced she truly had become. I can't imagine losing a child to such a selfish and demented individual. Fifteen years isn't nearly enough time to serve for such an elaborate and evil plot being carried out , which resulted in Rachel's murder. I feel so bad for her family.

Probably because this happened back in 1999. In Australia we are legally adults at 18, not 21 as in America. Back in 1999 it was quite normal to finish school at 15/16 years old and be out in the workforce earning a living. Caroline worked full time, was described as a bit of a quiet loner by work colleagues. She lived alone in her inner city apartment. She was somewhat estranged from her family due to her mental health issues. Look for a book called “Perfect Victim” it’s a book written by Rachel’s mother and explains a lot more in depth what happened. The girls were not close at all as was reported in the video and had in fact not seen each other in over 5 years. Rachel’s younger sister Ashleigh was friends with Caroline’s younger sister and at one time had lived on the same street as each other but Rachel’s mother mentions it a few times in the book that the families were not close at all and hardly knew each other. Caroline had babysat for them once, so even the title is a bit click-baity

@@21stcenturystrengthethos47 oh, sorry, my mistake. Both times I have been to the us it sort of looked like at 18 you weren’t really allowed to drink or gamble and most were still completing their schooling and living with their parents. In 1999 in Australia by the age of 20 one would be expected to be finished their schooling/training and be working full time and living away from their parents. It’s all changed now and most kids are still at school until they are 18, even the ones who want to learn a trade now have to complete grade 11 & 12. Back in 1999 you could leave in grade 10 if you wanted to

Basically. I recently began to truly understand the popular phrase "its a jungle out there." I'm lucky enough to have never really understood until now. I always thought "well that isn't true. We are civilized there is so much order in the world." But when you think about it there really is danger around every corner. Decisions you are constantly making for your survival. Humans are predator and prey to one another. It's wild out there. It's a scary thought but like also kinda thrilling. It won't change. The only thing that can change is one's attitude.
