I thought "hated in the nation" was really good. It's not perfect. Some things could have been done better but its' core conversation on the mob mentality of the internet crowd we find ourselves in was really intriguing. Also given the situation with August Ames I thought the ep handled the careless nature of internet commentary quite well.

My man, the fact that you went through the trouble of cutting each of the 4 layers of video you had onscreen at 3:15 to the beat of the music is simply sublime. I loved this episode, the hacker used the #DeathTo game to lure in people who wanted murder others. This made you think about how we treat others online and holds us accountable for how we behave. And his motive was the girl who tried to kill herself, because of all the online hate she had received (the girl he liked, he also found her in the bathtub with slit wrists and then saved her). This changed his concept of how he perceived the online trolls and flipped the script on them, making them kill themselves for what they decided to say online. I hope that makes sense, I am not so good with describing things but I think this episode was most realistic *because* of the lack of technology.

Its honestly one of my most favorite episodes. Although, it might not be the most favorable by fans, i thought the lesson is the most relatable to society more than all the other ones. Saying “fuck you” to someone online might seem like nothing, but you never know how much your actions hurt until they hurt.

Here's my gripe with people who think this episode was "not Black Mirror-esque" or got bored because of the police procedural vibe: I'm left wondering whether these people were actually paying attention. This episode is all about shifting the blame, taking responsibility and hivemind mentality. The tech focused on in the episode wasn't the bees, the bees were merely a means to an end (and yes, I suppose also to signify a hivemind thing going on). The tech we should've been focusing on was social media. Everyone was trying to avoid responsibility, from the first user of the hashtag to be questioned saying "What are you going to do? Question all the others as well?" to the detective condemning hundreds of thousands of people to their demise just to save 1 person to the person who started it all literally running away. This was about how you cannot hide from your mistakes, your responsibilities, and how technology makes this harder every single day, because people will track you down. It's a warning, concerning but yet ultimately weirdly positive episode in the way that because there's no way to hide, crime will need to go down even if government officials won't cooperate to see this happen.

@OnePunchBrand The problem is that author of this video seems to be a bit bias aginast this episode. He said "goverment was using bees to spy on people and it was shruged off". Well not really, it was brough by characters couple times and it was the main reason why a crime like this was possible. It doesn't leave us with answer - what is going to happen now, we can see that public don't know the truth yet and it forces wievers to think - what would my goverment do in this case? Are they going to take a blame or shift it and pretend that nothing happend? He said that one problem is that detective is not taking the leads her new partner picks. But this is how it's done all around the world. You won't just blindly follow a new partner, that got moved from different stuff, is new to this matter and is overenthusiastic. I don't get it why people want Black Mirror to be very entertaining, this show is supposed to left us thinking about future, about our actions now and technology, that might go wrong. Not to bring us fun and amusement.

I feel like this person just watched the episode once, didn’t try to dig deeper, and just made this episode without another thought. The beauty of this episode was in how realistic it was. The main detective didn’t care because she was desensitized to her job. The characters were normal, with no twists because they reflect the majority of people. The bees were realistic and so was the government surveillance. The whole episode was eerie because it seems like something that could happen in real life, just years from now.

But at the end, you see the merch, the followers, even the leader who got kicked out for trying to stop the monster he created. Waldo seems like the opposite of the system. But really, he IS the system. It went from a normal, funny guy, to a team working on marketing and business. Eventually, to become successful, everyone has to submit. You can't escape the system. I dont know why everyone is saying men against fire is the worst one. The bee episode I had to watch in chunks every night just to get through the monotony. Men against fire delves into the purpose of propaganda and the morality behind it, advanced weaponry/technology, the effects of PTSD. It challenges the trustworthiness of the military, which in part makes it one of the more unique episodes of the series.

Because yes, it has those themes, but it's done in such an on-the-nose way that the whole episode seems crafted to force this message on us. There's very little good story to take us in, flat boring characters, predictable twist and most the reveal comes as just talking in a room with a 2D 'evil' scientist (just exposition). Hated In The Nation was gripping and subtle, it had fantastic humour and a dark undertone too, with a very cool karma ending which totally trumped the juvenile "hell yeah awesome revenge" ending of Black Museum for example. Hated may have been too subtle to keep some people interested but I honestly didn't recognise any of the complaints this video makes about it, in fact I thought it was honestly one of the most fun & surprising episodes of TV I've seen in recent years.

I just watched it and it's my favorite episode so far. I found it creative and while it was predictable at times, that just makes the twists all the better. You don't want it to be too confusing or have so many twists you yet lost. Also, I don't like it when I only discover the point of the show at the very end, I like having some idea of what's going on. This episode explored many issues related to the modern day like how what we say online has an impact in the real world, cancel culture, mob mentality, government surveillance, environmental protection, and the hacker's twisted sense of mortality (he kills those who wished death on others, even those who didn't know what their actions meant). It also demonstrates to us the danger of modern technology and how even things we are told can't be hacked can be. I really enjoyed the episode, found it exciting, and very relevant to the modern day.

The point isn't that "cyber bullying" is bad. It's about going as far as wishing death upon and dehumanizing public figures or people they don't even know based on one thing they did or being losely informed about things they do that people disagree with. The fact that people think they have the right to get this demonic about it and acting like it's no big deal. The fact that you downplay it as "cyber bullying" shows that you didn't understand a thing. Black Mirror has NEVER been about the technology itself or a change in society. The technology is a story telling device and the society a setup. None if those EVER change in the end of an episode. You go in with the same technology and society as you go out with. The point is to follow the characters through a journey that shows not the weak points of the technology but the loss of control over it. A weakness that the characters see in a society that is adjusted to it and facing the strong consequences. You didn't like the episode due to an utter lack of understanding the concept of the show. It's showing us the dark side of the society we are or are likely to become and how quickly that escalates. Either you are a part of that society already and so ignorant that you cannot differentiate between a teenager getting a few mean comments about their looks and people being literally treated like they comitted some unforgivable crime/are a monster; or you're downright stupid and live inside a bubble where you only watch the show without understanding half of it going like "ah yeah it's about um cool technology and humans...changing i guess"

1:26 not all black mirror episodes have to bee high-tech to bee good, just look at shut up and dance, my personal favourite. and it didn't need high-tech to make the viewer think about the line between justice and crime 1:32 the detectives don't need to bee interesting and unusual because they aren't the focus of the episode, the whole bee hacking thing is, along with the hashtag 3:17 you say that as if they don't care about the genocide that happens in the episode. and, once again, why do they need to have a personal connection to the plot if it isn't about them? 3:50 it makes sense that this futuristic army of robots is used against people, because it's the only believable thing that could theoretically do the genocide and stealthy murder it did. what would have been better? 4:35 they didn't just find it out from nowhere, they used his manuscript and someone's account to connect the dots, it wasn't that obvious 4:53 of course, because they find evidence that hints at this, they didn't just realise from nowhere 5:24 he doesn't need to bee logical, he's the antagonist we shouldn't sympathise with entirely. i do like morally grey characters, and he isn't one of them, but i can look past that, because it isn't necessarily bad that he's completely evil 6:40 can you please either complain about the tropes or about the lack of them? first you complain that there's less technology, unlike the other episodes, and then you complain that you can see a trope. make up your mind 7:51 so what? protagonists can bee flawed 8:25 most people don't know the horrific implications of the events. the scientists losing control of the whole hive shocks them, but not the detective at first, because the detective doesn't know how bad that is 9:37 you compared an unimportant scene from the bee episode with very important scenes from other episodes in order to belittle the message of the whole bee episode. and the message is that people should acknowledge responsibility for what they say, because it can hurt people. i'm not saying if you make a mean comment a bee will kill you, but the message is that responsibility should be taken by people online. 9:49 that isn't the main focus of the episode so elaboration isn't needed 10:00 well there was a genocide, thats pretty punchy i couldn't just ignore this bullshit so i had to type out this essay for my own emotional benefit goodbye now and for those who ask 'who asked', nitpix did here 10:34

Considering he just carried the single greatest act of mass brutality in human history, society has certainly learned. No one would ever call for somebody else's death on the internet ever again. he's approaching it with the same desire for total vengeance that the White Bear Justice Park visitors and employees employ on Victoria Skillane on a daily basis. I view the episodes as two sides of the same coin - not just because of the "I investigated the Skillane killings" easter egg, but because both episodes cover weaponized vigilante justice as a misguided means for remedying the problems inherent in our society (not realizing that vigilantism is in of itself an extension of toxic masculinity - why try to reform your victim/punishee than by beating them and proceeding to gaslight them in an effort to "fix what is wrong"?) it's the same reason why Ozymandias forcing Earth to stop the Cold War by creating the squid monster (and killing anybody who assisted in the creation of it) can be seen as both a necessary evil to achieve a greater good or the most monstrous thing you can think of the emergency protocol aimed towards users of the #DeathTo hashtag can be seen as such. yes, it will stop cyberviolence, but how long will that peace last? how long must we wait until people realize how bullshit the peace's origin was?

It's not about the ending, it's about the gripping sensation of shittyness that permeates the whole episode. What I like about it isn't the plot, it's the awesome detail, and that even though it's the least speculative of them all, and their society is not our own (in contrast with all other episodes, the societies depicted are basically our society but with freaky awesome tech. This one is different)... And though it doesn't feel like we would ever get to the point of making dancing and biking concentration camps, it still feels like a HUMAN society, and it still has our problems with spectacle, visibility, hyperconnectivity, social engineering, etc. but in a different context. Holy Mackerel the Third I agree. Men Against Fire was far worse than Hated in the Nation. There was no twist in Men Against Fire. I was never lead to believe the 'roaches' were as dangerous as the soldiers believed them to be. The episode had nothing new to say. Its only messages were 'genocide is bad' and 'brainwashing is bad'. There was no hint at moral ambiguity. Even in Hated in the Nation, the hacker had some sort of point to make, as twisted as his methods were. But Men Against Fire had nothing to say that anyone who's not a psychopath doesn't already know.

Because be it first world or third world countries, leaders of countries have gotten away with countless war crimes, fraud, murder, etc, and never have I heard their secret service and armies just flat out say they can't protect the leader and their family from the people. Usually, they'd have to starve a whole country and be dictators who refuse to go to jail to get to the point of armies(not civilians) doing a coup. Come on, the guards and all that can't protect the PM and family from being slaughtered by the masses over not obeying terrorists? Ridiculous dude.

Ironically, the first episode was what had really gotten me into the show. Suppose I'm less interested in "scary technology" than social issues brought up by that technology, mainly because I don't think technology becoming terrifying evil stuff is anywhere near realistic (though, oddly, Metalhead was one of my favourites for how well it actually told its story). I don't think I've really disliked any Black Mirror episode though, which is strange considering how often I nitpick. I think all of the episodes have enough social messages to keep me in love with the show, lol.

I feel like it's unfair to crap on this episode because it doesn't have a little moral at the end. The best episodes of Black Mirror (Nosedive, Shut up and Dance) do not have that either; these are mostly implied and technology (and the culture created by technology) is also a mobile to bring the narrative to places where it wouldn't go otherwise. I think the power of Black Mirror is setting the parallel to things we see today: people giving up freedoms in exchange for stability or for "protection," for example. It would have been silly to make this episode about the environment too and then throw a little moral at the end about global warming. That's not the purpose of it. About the detectives and their "lack of emotion" or "reaction," I think it's coherent with the fact that they are there to solve a case. The episode is not about their moral conflicts, or their whole philosophies being turned inside out, etc. It's about an unlikely partnership between a cynical, classical detective who's weary of a modernity she doesn't understand and a younger, optimistic geek who may seem naive but it's very ingenious. In the end, it's about two detectives trying to get justice, either through lawful means or unlawful ones (we'll never know). I think the fact that the detectives are the ones "on trial" so to speak, instead of the government itself, is very telling too.

I think whether or not you consider this the "worst" episode of Black Mirror depends heavily on your motivations for watching it, and whether or not those motivations are in line with the fundamental message of Black Mirror as a series, which is baked right into the title, "Black Mirror." What's on the screen is incidental. What Black Mirror's really about is what you see when you turn off your screen - your own reflection. It's not about "telling cool stories featuring scary technology." It's about our relationship with technology and the ways we, as a culture and a society, abuse it and use it to abuse each other or harm ourselves. If you're not looking for that takeaway from each episode - how you can contextualize the themes in your own attitudes and the world YOU live in - then yeah, you're probably only going to see this as boring detectives and robotic bees.

The only Black Mirror episode I couldn’t entirely sit through was San Junipero.

It's still a fantastic episode, amazingly paced and a gripping story. The killer bees are actually done really well and the story takes you down a cool path, the subtle ending is awesome.

I liked Hated in the Nation though I consider it average compared to other episodes. My least favorite Black Mirror episode is Men Against Fire.

I was a bit surprised that anyone could dislike the bee episode more than the Mily Cyrus episode, until I saw this video is six years old and therefore came out before the Cyrus sode.

Black mirror is how modern/future technology can be used against humanity and at the time the show was made the robotic bees creation had recently been announced.
