My solution is quite simple. I just do not replace Old Faithful, aka Arthur the 1990 Volvo 240DL wagon my mother bought new. He was her 60th birthday present to herself, and she drove him for 25½ years and put about 190,000 miles on the clock. In the 7½ years since I have added another 200,000 or so miles. Even the automatic transmission is original. Simply put, the car has never once had as much spent on it in one year as car payments. I came just keep repairing as needed

Couple of points here: 1) My family have had Dodges for years and have never had any serious issues with them. The biggest issues we’ve ever had with them were the last Caravan my parents bought has an incredibly thrashy transmission to maximize fuel economy and My Dad's old Intrepid was just uncomfortable and would put your left leg to sleep after driving it for 2 hours. 2) I’m amazed that BMW and Jaguar were not on this list. Jaguar is pretty self explanatory since it could be said it only caught fire twice when you test drove it, stereotypical British electrical systems at their finest. When it comes to BMW I’ve heard so much negative feedback firsthand from owners and seen several issues in the news that it’s astonishing they weren’t even a dishonorable mention on this list. My dad has a friend whose 3 Series suffered catastrophic brake failure not once, but twice. As he said, “talk about a life defining experience when you go to press your brake petal and it goes straight to the floor and nothing happens.” Luckily for him it happened on the highway both times and the car was a manual so he was able to pull over, down shift, and rip the hand brake when he was nearly at a complete stop. Then my mother had a coworker who picked up a used 5 Series that left him stranded once and he had to pay $1,200 for a battery replacement. Let that sink in, $1,200 for a battery replacement. I don’t care how over engineered and advanced a BMW battery claims to be, why would you pay $1,200 for a battery replacement when you could walk into an AutoZone or even a Costco and replace the battery on an American or Japanese car for less than 10% of the BMW's cost? Then there is the issue with BMWs continually relocking themselves after you hit the unlock button on your key fob. My mother has another coworker who ran into this problem after her toddler got in her 3 Series and she couldn’t unlock the car long enough to be able to open the door. Having to call your FBI agent husband to break your daughter out of your own car because it won’t stay unlocked long enough to open the door isn’t a good look. Bottom line BMWs are like that sexy looking girl at the bar that is pleasing to look at and probably preforms well, but is a walking nightmare in every other aspect.

Have had a 2003 Mini Cooper S from new - it has been a very reliable and pretty trouble free car for 17 years. Only issue that I had to fix myself was grease running down into the window winder motor and gumming up the commutator - which was pretty easy to pull out and clean to fix - my wife is looking forward to another decade of trouble free driving.

I knew 2 individuals who bought Jettas from the show room, and within 6 months Fuel Leaks, which were never corrected no matter how many times they took it one Bought an Audi TT Quatro, the other lost contact. Last i checked from 1989 to 2016 they still couldn't fix it

I have a 6 year old Sonata with over 120k miles. Never had a problem with it. My daughter purchased a new jeep wrangler 4 years ago. No front end wobbling or any other problem. My wife brought a 2010 Cadillac SRX had a recall on front struts but now has 130k miles with no problems. So either we're lucky or this guy needs to review his data.

My dad used to own a 2016 Ford F-150 and the head gaskets warped and let oil into the cylinders and every time he started it up. It made a huge cloud of blue smoke. So he got a new engine and 3 months later it did the same thing. So he bought a 2020 tundra and loves it.

Nah man just don't do like that to Nissan. I've owned Nissan's all my life... first I had the 2009 nissan sunny... then a 2015 nissan Sentra.... then a 2016 nissan pathfinder.... and currently a nissan patrol 2020 and they are all beautifully driving cars.... except sentra.

The video is pretty legit. You missed BMW and Audi in the list. Yet, most manufacturers are producing junk, even Toyota. Nowadays cars are basically disposable compare with some of the late 90' and early 00. Example, the Camry back then, still in the road today with over half a million miles and rocking.
