Let's clear something up here, you don't buy a Nissan Versa for performance. This is not a driver's car, this is for the college student or the family needing a low-budget sedan. This is what cars were like 20-30 years ago and people were generally content. This car is a counter answer to the modern trends in automotive manufacturing. There's very few electronics, only basic controls, and the price is basic as well. If Ford took a truck and stripped all the fancy stuff out of it, it would be about 18k, but they won't do that because there's no money in it.

@@dave_riotsSo the problem is Fiat made better cars before they bought Chrysler, killed Lancia like so and think they can contiune like so.. The new Dodge Neon is basically a Fiat Tipo. The only difference is: the Tipo is acutally doing pretty good and it's kinda reliable. Fiats engines are ok, they are pretty cheap but it's not looking like it is. I also remember when Chysler had the great idea to sell some of these stupid unreliable, vans. You know them as Dodge Town and Country we knew then as Lancia Voyager. Way to big for our european streets, to slow, no manual, to heavy, doesn't get good gas mileage. But you seem to like those things with so much electric stuff that goes down after 20.000km..

Lol, dude complaining about that stock radio. It has front USB, bluetooth, Aux Input, CD player, MP3, bluetooth A2DP and handsfree, steering controls and dedicated answer and hangup controls on the head unit and steering wheel. I don't know what else you expect, that is a very complete product and the Compact Disc player is very welcomed.
@DrivewayDemons
@DrivewayDemons 5 жыл бұрын
konatadesuka I’m an audio engineer. I owned a recording studio for years. The 4 & 6 ohm Chinese made speakers suck. The head unit pushes very little power and the music distorts due to the single paper cone woofers. There is a lot of pollution in the audio due to cheap electronics. So all the features you mentioned doesn’t mean a damn thing if the audio quality is horrible. I bet they push no more than 5 Watts RMS @ 4 ohm. That’s just plain horrible since most cars are around 10-14 Watts RMS.
@konatadesuka
@konatadesuka 5 жыл бұрын
That stock radio has a 4 channel 25W RMS power amplifier. The terrible quality has more to do with the poor acoustic design than the head unit. And again, what are you comparing to? Studio quality sound? On a car at that price point? Well, no. Not gonna happen. And that particular head unit is an option that can be upgraded to a touch-display with satnav and AroundView 360° cameras but again, not on the cheapest trim of the car. For that price-point, it's very adequate.
@DrivewayDemons
@DrivewayDemons 5 жыл бұрын
konatadesuka negative. Don’t care what they claim. There’s no way those speakers are 25watt rms per channel. If they claim 25 watts peak then they are maybe 5-7 watts RMS which is what I stated prior. My $600 pioneer double dinn is top notch and only 20 Watts rms. Peak power doesn’t matter. I don’t care about the upgrades only what was in this car. The Toyota Corolla and Ford Fiesta are both far superior cars on this price range and have much better audio quality as well as comfort.

@DrivewayDemons 5 жыл бұрын
konatadesuka lol you need to read what I wrote I’m not going to argue Symantics with you all day. The head unit is weak and the RMS is low. They might claim high power but doesn’t mean it’s delivering. Chinese electronics. I have been building cars and engineering audio and car stereos for 20+ years. The units in the car are junk. Judging For the sole purpose of listening to music and nothing else they suck.

I rented one of these a few years back. It was shockingly adequate! Seriously, I was surprised how... okay it was. Up through the 80s, 90s, into the 2000s... driving the cheapest cars on the market was just a horrible experience. It felt like punishment. You got something like a 1980s Ford Escort or even like an early 2000s Kia Rio and everything was flimsy, you didn't get antilock brakes, the stereo sounded like a clock radio, the cars didn't feel stable over 60mph, and they were so underpowered that you dreaded highway driving. Even the turn signal stalks felt like they'd snap off at some point. None of those things is true about the current Versa sedan. It's perfectly adequate transportation. Drove it to and from work every day for about a week on a rather hellish hourlong commute. I seriously had zero complaints. Comfort was fine, and I'm 6'1" 250lbs. Had plenty of headroom. I don't know how this reviewer dude felt cramped. Absolutely nothing on this car was what you'd call nice, but... nothing (aside from how dorky it looked) was really bad either. Even the radio was fine. I am really shocked and impressed that Nissan can sell these for 12 grand new or whatever they cost.

Great car for the money and gas mileage. I actually like the old school manual components. I bought the S model for a commuter that's cheap and dependable. It does the job well. Also more interior space than any of the other subcompacts I looked at. Gets me where I need to go economically.

I have the 1.2L manual version. In my country it's called the Almera. It has parking sensors, Caska multimedia, rear camera, automatic windows and all the basic stuffs and no useless fancy tech. It's very economic and reliable. The manual version is quite fast for 79HP. No need to rev above 2500rpm for good acceleration, and easily gets way above 60mi/h.

I have rarely (never) listened to a more dishonest review. Start with the seats--they are extremely comfortable. The car is plenty big--plenty of room--it has a bigger trunk than most of the subcompact. the handling is great etc. etc. the review is absurd and totally dishonest.

@ratherrapid
@ratherrapid 5 жыл бұрын
@@kcmaldonado3948 good to admit ur review was "not entirely truthful". would be better if u did an edit and delete the untruthful portions. the Versa is designed for soft instead of hard handling. ur correct that it is less "substantial" than most used cars that are larger and more expensive new. The Versa is designed for easy driving, high gas mileage, cheap operating cost. Needless to say, if you want $100/month more in car payments u will find a better car. The new vs. used car debate for same price is interesting! Likely depends again on cost--e.g. gas mileage. While gas is $2/gallon, used car might make better sense. When gas hits $3.50/gallon, which it will, Versa makes a lot of sense.

@@ratherrapid I was not referring to 'my review,' I was referring to the review in this video. I bought one of the first of this redesign and in 190K miles, the CVT went out ($3700 if you don't have the extended warranty), and I'd check out the early IIHS offset crash results for Versa. You mostly would likely not survive a crash, so saving money on gas won't really matter.

Even modern Ferraris and Lambos possess cheap garbage plastic parts which easily break. Those are the biggest scams in world history. Classic cars between the '50s & '60s are the only cars that are made with the world's finest quality which will last forever. Or you can get a '70s car and reverse-engineer some of the plastic parts and get them machined out of genuine metal to make them the best cars in history.

I like the way this car looks, I like the fact that it's affordable, but all the negative reviews are really preventing me from buying one. Based on those reviews, the biggest issue with the Versa, and Nissan cars in general, is the transmission. It's a CVT, which is a sealed unit that can't be repaired when it fails. You have to buy a new one, meaning that what you save in the short term, is paid in the long term, because in the long term, everything fails.

This car is actually really good for the money. Compared to it's closest competition, the Mitsubishi Mirage which starts at around 1-2k more, the Nissan Versa is the better choice, especially with the manual transmission. It has a lot of things you'd expect from a modern car of it's class, without charging you a little extra for things you can't have. This car is faster than the Mirage, it's more spacious, it's more reliable, it has more features for it's price, road noise isn't noticeable, ride quality is better, build quality is better, and unlike the Mirage; it can go up a hill without stalling, making weird noises, and rattling like crazy. I owned both the Mirage and the Versa, and I can say that the Nissan Versa is a winner.

I agree about the SV, not nearly as cute as the SV Special Edition. SV Special Edition has an upgraded interior. But I disagree about the trunk storage, it's bigger than my old Kia Spectra, oddly enough. For a small car, it's very well designed for seating and trunk. My boyfriend is bigger than you, and he was surprised how comfortable he is in it. It's not a speed racer, but great for what I need it for - driving in a city, with streets designed for horse carts. Versa gets the last laugh, because it's easy to parallel park anywhere and easy to get around on the narrow streets. My Kia was more fun to drive, but the Versa is more fun to deal with the awful gas prices, and city driving is a breeze.

Inherited my fathers 2011 1 Versa in 2016 (1.8sl automatic). I already had a '13 Camry that I had purchased new for around 24K. Figured it would be nice to have a extra car around. Even thou the Camry cost twice as much and is a better looking car (I got Attitude Black), the seats in the Camry are uncomfortable, it's loaded with cheap plastic (two pieces of plastic actually fell off of the seats in the car), and I had to take it back to the dealer at 30k miles to have work done on the breaks (which was still under warranty). On top of that the paint on the car was so cheap my front bumper got damaged from rock chips on the road. NONE of these issues occurred with my father's old Versa. The seats are comfortable, it's had no major issues and it's now hitting 95K miles (and the seats are WAYYY more comfortable than the new Camry that I bought). Now my wife (who talks crap about the Versa all the time similar to yourself), wants to drive the Versa all the time not the Camry????. So don't take some of the comments as being negative and "hateful". It's just that people are passionate about their Versa's!!!

As a matter of fact my friend has not had to fix anything major on the car.....not the alternator, or starter, or water pump, fuel pump, etc. etc. The only thing that broke down is the a/c, and horn/air bag spring, and to me that's not major because it has nothing to do with the car being able to run or not. So now I'm just wondering when all those things will be breaking down on me ???.....hopefully, I got some time and hopefully it won't cost a whole lot !!!

Just rented a Versa from Enterprise. Drove it from Salt Lake City to Boise and back. 740 miles round trip.. Got 40 mpg running 70/75 mph. At 80 mph the handling gets a little floaty. Handles well at 75 mph. Had no problems climbing over mountain passes at 70 mph. My only complaints would be that the seats are a little uncomfortable, but I was able to drive 3 hours at a time before needing to stretch my legs. Arm rest positions were apparently not thought out at all. Cup holders are in positions that cause a bit of distractive driving to use. Too far forward, causing one stretch and lean down a bit too much to access. Front door pockets had bottle holders in them which were easily accessible. Headlights worked very well at night on low and high beam. Not sure about the cvt transmission as far as reliability. Have heard of reliability issues. Would rent another Versa for the same route again. Maybe the next generation will have more comfortable front seats.

I have had two, cost of ownership and reliability in the 5spd model is top notch. my 16 and 17 were great. Although agree with a lot of what you have called out on the Versa, you have to consider who they are aimed at. they are aimed at first time buyers, people like me that like to save money, and people who cannot get traditional financing. I had BC Racing Coilovers on my 17, which eliminated the instability issues that all of us Versa owners have concerns about. they are great cars if you do not care about being fancy, and they look pretty decent when done right.
