Parasitic Bond does have a bit of a niche, it's just not a reliable one: In games that go on very long where your opponent has a creature that isn't there for combat but is pivotal to their plans anyway.

Hear me out... what if... you had Sheoldred in play... and Megrim... and then you make the opponent draw cards, damaging them with Sheoldred... and then you use the Discordant Dirge to make them discard all these cards, thus damaging them with Megrim! A genius combo for a quick win on turn 15 or so :D

Electrite is kinda crummy in a vacuum, of course. But Magic is a game of card interaction and all it would take is a couple other cards to make him into something your opponents will trip over each other to get rid of.
@seijhik15 күн бұрын
I really dont like to hear that shroud is a worse hexproof when hexproof is just a straight up powercreep... sad to see that now a creature must have etb effects AND agressive stats to be "playable". That's the mindset that destroys the game. Some of these cards are interesting designs that need work to be good, but now a card must be its own payoff to be considered viable. Makes the game dumber.
@marcoottina65416 күн бұрын
3:30 actually, Shroud is the original "idea" while Hexproof is the kinda-fixed version of it (but I would say it's the "unbalanced powercrept" version) also, will your #1000-th "top 10" be a "Nizzahon's favourite cards by effect / art / flavour"? :D (even in multiple parts) I would love a series of, let's say, 10 videos about your interests, I think you deserve some space to freely talk about what genuinely amazes you :D

Urza’s block was the height of mtg in terms of art and lore. It was dope to collect and play casually

One place I've actually found Purging Scythe to be fun is in a Maha, It's Feathers Night EDH deck. Most of my creatures have higher toughness so they're less susceptible to Pestilence, Nausea, Languish, Caltrops, and such. And if you can keep Maha out for any length of time, it's virtually guaranteed to kill an opposing creature each turn. That said, hardly even an all star there, with its cost, and all the other effects targeting low toughness creatures. But still, is a fun include.

I started playing just before Urza block so this block was like Magic School for me, I learned so much about the game from playing it. And even inexperienced as I was, I still never understood Reclusive Wight. I stared at that card for hours, thinking there must be something I just didn't understand, some secret that made it good, because it just didn't make sense to me that they'd print a card that terrible
@Asrugan16 күн бұрын
I’m surprised you didn’t point out the fact the Wight has been errataed to be a zombie, which is even arguably worse, as almost all zombie decks rely on filling the board with zombies.
@JervisGermane15 күн бұрын
The combo with Purging Scythe was Vhati il-Dal. Indestructible didn't exist back then, and protection from artifacts or from green were and are very rare, so the only viable ways to save anything from them were regeneration or protection from black. That combo wiped out any creatures that didn't have those abilities.

Ahhh bad cards, my favourite genre of Nizzahon video. With the exception of "Top 10 Vintage Cards (Minus Power 9)" of course. One day I will make Discordant Dirge get onto that list, I think!
@JindraAG14 күн бұрын
The thing about discordant dirge that might dispute its state as a worst card, is that it is (after a turn) instant speed discard, a horrifically rare thing, because it can be a turn skip if you rip an entire hand during a player's turn. Admittedly for that to matter you have to be in a strong position already...
@TheOldschooljim14 күн бұрын
I've played Lurking Jackals back in the days in my Pox deck. I was easy to cast and survived the pox effect while being on the board. Being at 10 lifes was easy to achieve after a pox effect. Card was not broken as the rest of the set but was playable, more than Lurking Evil ;)
@didymussumydid972613 күн бұрын
@@TheOldschooljim lurking jackals was very good in suicide black, as it synergized with skittering skirge and often turned into a creature immediately, or could be sacrificed to negator. Nizzahon is brainrotted by modern mtg if he thinks lurking jackals is a bad card.

It's good that the seers are underpowered. Having an infinite counterspell with seedborn muse (or with prophet of kruphix if somehow playing it in commander) sounds like a miserable experience. I might even try it in a simic deck that has a full hand all the time (like the new Tamiyo)

An idea of how bad Parasitic Bond is, is the card Stab Wound. Stab Wound is strictly better, being one mana less and also giving -2/-2 to the creature in question. That's significantly better, but even with that much upside it still doesn't see play.
@bluedestiny271016 күн бұрын
I was confused at first why you condensed the entire block for a single top 10... but I guess the other 2 sets, Legacy and Destiny, are a bit too small to make an interesting top 10 on. Still, this DID allow some truly crappy cards to escape the chopping block... like the set of auras that ALSO needed counters that gets accumulated every upkeep and does nothing that immediately impact the board (i.e the red one does X damage to any target per counter on it after the creature dies), the other viashinos (2 mana for a 2/1 with haste that bounced to your hand at end of turn, the 5/3 one that does the say for RR2, or that RR2 4/3 that also sends ALL your creatures to attack when it does), those enchantments where you sacrifice to get an effect only after a difficult condition is met (i.e 2nd Chance allows you to sacrifice it during your upkeep to gain an extra turn if you have 5 or less life, but does absolutely nothing before the condition is met) From Urza's saga, there is an enchantment that turned into a 4/4 vanilla creature if your opponent has no cards in hand.... yea it's Avatar of Will's older brother... but somehow less playable Feels bad to be the worst cards in a broken set :(
@joshuagannon656613 күн бұрын
In defense of Ivy Seer, yes it is bad, make no mistake about it, and while there are plenty of better options for the deck, it does have a potent use in G/X Infect decks where you can reveal a bunnch cheap or even free green pump spells then use said pump spells after.
@romankozelov507811 күн бұрын
I played a Collective Restrain 5-color Lock Deck on Enchantments. My main wincon was Collective Borders or Smoldering Tar + White Shrine (don't remember the name). Parasitic Bond could be an option there too...
@romankozelov507811 күн бұрын
Remember the moment, when opponent played Snaketongue RGB deck, was absolutely locked by 3 Collective Restrains, already got two Global Ruins but still had about ten lands. I have got Smoldering Tar + two Shrines - so, on every upkeep he was getting -1 life and I got +8 lives. Finally, he has got his chance and played at the end of turn + upkeep on his turn TWO Urza's Rage with kickers - finally passing the prevention and counterspells. After this hit, my life counter fell off from 74 to 54...

"Incredibly pushed cards," and how do they compare to modern cards especially if we look at creatures?
@NizzahonMagic14 күн бұрын
Power creep largely only applies to creatures, as eager as people are to apply it to everything. The best instants, sorceries, and Artifacts are largely 25+ years old. And the three cards I mentioned are far more powerful than the pushed creatures of today. As are most of the other Urza's Block cards that got banned.
