The thing that really bugs me is the price increase. Like I get what Niantic is trying to do by getting players to do more in person raids but with limiting remote raids to 5 a day there is no reason to increase the price of remote passes too.

For me it’s the price hike that hurts. When you can only earn 50 coins per day, a remote pass every 2 days felt ok. It’s now going to take 4. Nearly double the cost feels harsh. I understand the cap but 5 feels low. I am a rural player, having remote friends who would jump in remotely massively increased my enjoyment of the game. I feel now I will struggle to raid over 3 stars, and that kinda sucks.

Completely agree with this. I’m completely f2p right now, and have been for the whole year. The most I’ve ever spent on the game has been event tickets at £10 a piece. I don’t ever buy coins, I just rely on being kicked out of gyms. This really hits for me.

I’m the same. I’ve only ever managed to do raids over 3* remotely in all the years I’ve been playing. Truly I don’t know how any adult players are regularly managing to do in person raids- I know 3 friends who play locally and they rarely play, and extra-rarely do raids. The idea of me managing to organise getting all three of those people together to go stand on the street and do a raid with me is laughable. We have jobs, some have kids- if I was to start messaging these people to leave their kids or spouses at home to come play Pokémon with me they would think I was a maniac. I’ve even joined a local raid group but nobody just goes out and does raids of an evening. What am I gonna do, hand out cards with my trainer code outside the local school?? Are they tryna get me arrested? 😂🤦‍♀️

Have you considered using apps like PokéRaid to host in-person raids and find 5 others raiding remotely to complete 5* raids or do people consider this to be 'cheating'? I've not used a remote raid since they disappeared from the weekly box and never feel like I'm missing out. That said I don't raid to get shinies, only to complete my Pokédex or to get a decent IV legendary if I want it for PVP or raiding.

I really appreciate all the work you've done for the community, especially trying to be our voice to Niantic. I wanted to try to leave Pokemon GO on a positive note and thank those like you who put in so much work for so long. But you did ask for feedback. I'll still keep subscribed to you and Nick, but I cannot support a company that knowingly takes actions that harm the vulnerable and Niantic did that. For me it's a line that was crossed today, not something they can fix by just walking it back and promising to "listen" with their fingers crossed behind their back like the last far too many times. This was an objectively evil action by a privately held business that didn't have to do it. I have a friend who cannot leave his apartment due to a medical condition that left him disabled and the only thing he could do in the game was remote raid. And he's been depressed over this since it was first rumored. I have my own disability that limits my walking, but I can drive and walk on level ground for some distance, so I was doing in-person raiding in addition to heavy remote raid pass to reach gyms I couldn't get to and invite others in my community to raids they needed but couldn't get to due to work and family commitments. And I was joining in as "fire support" for raids when people needed help. Remote raids are the lifeblood of our community now and everyone is saying they can't afford them anymore. Niantic already killed our community meetups by dropping surprise events on top of every single one of them with no notice for 6+ months straight in 2018 in a way that was completely incompatible with actually doing things as a community. Now they're killing what's left. And while I have known all along that Pokemon GO wasn't their "real" business, this move has made it undeniable that we're being exploited for location data. With social media I can at least justify it with the old phrase "if you're not paying for the service, you're the product, not the customer" but with this I've spent literally thousands on coins and events paid directly to Niantic on top of thousands in travel expenses. And yet they clearly showed today I'm still the product, not the customer. In 2016 I bought coins explicitly for the purpose of supporting a company I thought was trying to do some good. Over time that morphed into just being a whale. But today they made me ashamed that I ever acted in support of them. Both here, and all the times I justified their actions as just following a myopic "vision". This isn't vision. This isn't "balancing the game" either since this creates a much wider rift between those in dense urban areas and those not. The only interpretation left for what we saw today is that they want more location data from us and don't care if they burn their most profitable game to the ground getting it.

Niantic collects location data which is a bigger revenue stream for them. The first thing that can be done en mass is turning off adventure sync. The second thing is to turn off the sponsored messages setting in the game. If the player base denied some of what is valuable to Niantic then you might stand a better chance of being heard.

for me, this change is devastating. I have some medical conditions that keep me from going outside, playing with other trainers and going around raiding all day. The introduction of remote raid passes made me enjoy the game much more and helped me distract myself from the stuff that's been going on in the world and in my private life. it helped me progressing in the game to points i would never have achieved without using remote raid passes. the price increase is big and hurts a lot, but is not as bad as the restriction. If they really keep these changes, then they should also adjust the requirements of what you need to level up, progress in the game, level up pokemon you get from raids and rewards you get from remote raids.

I honestly belive that Niantic at this point is straight up ready to lose a majority of their players and instead they are banking on new players that are willing to go outside just like everyone did when the game was new. However if they remove the remote passes altogether at this point they could potentially lose almost everyone so i belive this is a way to slowly make people rely less and less on them until they are just gone. And then every new player after that won’t even know remote raids ever even existed. I believe this is Niantics ultimate vision since they never really wanted remote raids in the first place. A part of me even believe that they regret ever adding them although that could have killed the game completely during the pandemic

These changes hugely affect the playability of the game for me, as someone who plays from a small country with a very inactive in person raid community and often weather which make going outside to play miserable. I raid a lot thanks to the remote raid passes. The passes are my only chance of catching and powering up legendary Pokémon. I have no problem spending money on the game as long as the prices are fair and I enjoy what I pay for but this is outrageous and I might put the game down for good even if it’s the last thing I want to do since I love the game but if I can’t play on the level I have gotten used to and enjoy I don’t see myself playing the game as much as I have been doing, my spending on the game will also stop. Zoe, I think a critical thing you said is when you joined a raid with your patreon members and there is only 4 people in the lobby. THIS is what it is like for the general public and the only way to do 5 star raids is through remote raid passes. It is irrelevant whether people can walk to the gym or not if they have no one to raid with around them. I rely on discord and still need to remote raid because I can't travel 5 miles for a single raid. This is a big problem and another step in the wrong direction from Niantic. I know it is the way Niantic want us to play pokemon go but it may not be the way the general public want to play and trying to force people to do that will push people away, not get them to play more. The user experience is important and unless I see data from them showing more people in-person raid than remote, I won't be convinced this is a good idea.

I feel like Niantic isn't considering the bigger impacts to being part of a real community of players. Communities evolve and grow. Of the people I started playing with, 70% of us have moved (geographically) or have kids in college and still like to raid together via remote raid. This limit and cost increase will mean LESS game play with our communities. Local community isn't always enough to get the job done.

Limiting access to remote raids restricts our online communities. My mom has cancer and mostly bed ridden these days. Like a lot of older players, she can’t do PVP/GBL - it too complicated. Not being able to remote raid will strongly negatively impact those with disabilities that have already limited access to the game.

This affects me greatly. I haven't been able to attend Wednesday raids since college when I was surrounded by people who played all the time. Remote raids have helped me stay up to date with Megas and legendaries. I've been able to invite friends in Japan to raids and vice versa, without even communicating with them. They see I'm online, they toss me an invite. It's really nice of them, honestly. As for in person raids--those largely died when the pandemic rolled around. The only time I see people playing POGO are during Community Days, but more often than not, there are raid pokemon that don't coincide on those days and I'll miss them. Niantic needs to understand that this won't bring pre-pandemic raids back. *Nothing* will ever bring those back, Niantic. They're huffing copium REAL hard if they think this is going to help their bottom line. Multiple people have already stated that they're done and this was the last straw. The rest of them are turning off adventure sync and switching to f2p. It just hurts for as much time as all of us have put into this game and our community, Niantic doesn't care about us. Hi Zoe! I think this is going to really hurt rural, disabled, and newer players, especially with regards to pvp, which has been historically a way for these players to still connect with the game without a local community. Niantic discontinued the Cups that didn’t require XL candies, because they said they are far more accessible now. With the 5 remote raid pass limit + 1 daily in person raid, that comes out to 6 raids a day, with legendaries giving a min of 3 XL candies when you catch them. Raid rotations are roughly a week, so if you use 6 raids * 7days * 3 XLs, you only get 126 out of the 296 you need to max it out for the master league. If you add 2 additional XLs for raiding in person, that comes out to 126 + 14 = 140, still nowhere near enough to build a legendary for the master league. Thank you so much for your advice and for using your platform to give everyone a voice!!
@shinx720
@shinx720 Жыл бұрын
Things Niantic could do to remedy these changes: 1. Bring classic cups back! - Master league and Ultra League cups that don’t require any XL candies, essentially level 40 cups 2. Increase the remote raid limit/provide accomodations specifically for rural/disabled players : could also be in the form of a free daily raid pass for these trainers! 3. Tailor the remote raid pass limit to the ‘bulkiness’ of the 5*/mega raid bosses: Tornadus, for instance, can be taken down by 2-3 trainers pretty easily with level 40 counters, while lugia can be a struggle for even 4-5 players, and mega latios/latias/the primals required 8+ trainers with level 40 counters. Depending on the raid boss that’s in rotation, they could set a limit that would help trainers actually be able to take down the raid boss, especially for those without large local communities. 4. Increase the frequency and reliability of reward drops from in person raids, rather than only XL candy: incentivizes raiding in person, while poffins, stardust, and rare candies/XLs help newer players ‘catch up’ to older ones in terms of their ability to max out legendaries/meta relevant pokemon.

This too!! I love helping my overseas friends when they can't usually get enough local raiders to take down. This change means two major changes for me. No chasing the latest shiny all over the world until I get it, and no hopping in friends raids if there's any chance that they and I will lose their passes due to failing to defeat the boss. I'm rural and although I travel about a lot I rarely see in person raids to join. Our local raid group, well half the players stopped playing a number of years ago. So basically I will be raiding even less than normal, and I STILL rack up at or over 50km a week distance, so it's not 'not going out'

Honestly, this is the same problem that companies have with Remote work. The pandemic was a huge catalyst for changing the way we do things but there are companies out there that cannot stand that the same things we do in an office(or in game) can be done in a different way. They're willing to throw accessibility out the window to make people do what they want, how they want. I'm not surprised. It's just disgusting and disappointing. We can do so much remote but we're being forced to do it their way. That being said, no one has to play... But if we want to, it's their way or get out.

It is such a blow to disabled players. There's been such a nice remote community built up with streamers hosting raids and this is hurt. The cost change is overly prohibitive. Even if I can get people together to raid locally in our small town, we can be ruined if the raids we're looking for simply don't spawn at convenient times/locations; remote raiding counteracted this. Considering the candy cost of competing in GBL (Master League, hello!), how is a player supposed to get the resources they need to max something out during its raid rotation? Oh yeah, let's also think about how broken raiding has been with freezes, crashes, and getting kicked out, in recent months!

I think even just making progress in the game is incredibly shunted. Like it’s hard enough to get enough candy to power up certain legendaries, and get the xp to level up. Remote raids was the way to even conceive of making those milestones, now it’s that much harder to get powerful teams and achieve manageable goals - making the tangible joy of progress effectively so few and far between. This really blows. I live on an island...sometimes we have tourists and a lot of people so even though we don't have a huge number of gyms at times you can get a full raid going. But at other times NO WAY. The great thing has been since we do get seasonal visitors I have been able to make friends with some of them, they will come to the island for a month every year and we can play together in person but for the other 11 months we rely on playing remotely. Its such a great feeling to join a battle with someone I haven't seen in months and it sucks that is going away. In addition its getting more expensive. Not to mention that I am about to have my third back surgery and remote raids were such a blessing after my last surgery. It gave me a way to keep in touch with my friends and honestly it helped me forget the pain I was feeling. It has been a huge motivator for me to do more- push myself harder. I just wish they would look at this in a bit of a different way. If you want people to play the game in a certain way more then provide incentives don't punish people for playing the game a certain way - that just leaves your player base with a negative feeling from the game. I don't need to play a game to get punished- there are plenty of free punishments. If they would offer things like higher shiny odds for in person players or double stardust for completing an in-person raid I think they would see their player base get out more. At least then those who do play remotely aren't left out and when life throws us a curve ball -like back surgery that takes a full year to heal from- at least we can stay involved in the game and play with our friends. In my opinion, I think the main drawback from this announcement is the accessibility issues it will cause, for both rural players and those who are unable to attend raids in person. By placing the limit on the number of remote raids players can do, it will result in players being very selective as to what raids they join remotely, which will likely hinder those who rely on remote raiding to be able to complete a raid and may miss out on new raid bosses and shinies as a result. In addition, by increasing the price of remote raid passes, it also makes them less accessible to players as they have to either wait to earn enough coins to purchase a pass, hope to get a free one from the weekly research breakthrough or spend more real money to get the coins required. I think that the community would have benefitted if the limit was at 10 (which I think is a fairer amount of remote raids to cap at), and remote passes were 150 for 1 and 400 for 3, so still a limit in place and a price increase, but not to the extent of the announcement. With this announcement, Niantic needs to also ensure that in person events and raids are working as expected and not broken, as if we continue to have repeats of the Regidrago Elite Raid Day and those issues in future updates, it will only continue to cause unrest and unhappiness amongst the community as a whole. I also hope that an update to come with this announcement, is the ability for players to see who is still able to join a raid remotely and not allow people to be invited if they have reached the 5 remote raid limit for that day. The one benefit from this announcement, is that with the limit of remote raiding per day, it will result in players who maybe spend a significant amount of real money on buying remote raid passes now being unable to do so, which will be financially beneficial. It also means less money for Niantic, but this is the decision they have made so that is on them if their revenue drops drastically from this announcement.

The problem with this tone deaf decision by Niantic is they are not honest and upfront about their intentions and our goals. The goal isn’t to promote community and exercise, it’s to collect and sell our data. It is the not so hidden truth, wrapping poop in a bow doesn’t make it a present. That being said. There are so many meaningful changes that they can make to balance the game. But the only “buff” in this sea of nerfs is a vague bonus who’s numbers are not disclosed or verified until after the player spends the time, energy, and money to attend a raid in person. How many times have bonuses been absent in an oopsie moment by Niantic. Especially by those faithful kiwi beta testers in New Zealand. Why not remove remote raid accessibility in densely populated areas while leaving it unnerfed in rural areas. Why do Rural players get shafted? I lived rurally for a little while this year and it was awful with Pogo! No spawns, no items, the only thing to do was PVP or remote raiding. Why isn’t the map updated regularly or spawns dispersed often. Why are we still using OSM data from 2021? My parents community built in late 2021 doesn’t even have a street or spawns. Why would anyone want to play there?? This “solution” to balance the game actually just skews the favor back to densely populated areas and to spoofers. The pandemic didn’t make everyone lazy, it reprioritized things for people. Accessibility was boosted and the notion of living life the way you preferred became commonplace instead of a luxury. Now we’re seeing the result of people longing for the way things were instead of adapting to the way things are or the way things can move forward. I never raided prepandemic. My work schedule got me home at 6pm and during those early days raids ended around then. I could only meet up with people on the weekend and maybe catch a raid. Back then raids were a boss for a month. People raided early and the rest of the month was hard to coordinate. The result was I only did maybe 1 or 2 raids a month. That’s what Niantic wants me to go back to. The introduction of remote raids allowed me to start playing when I wanted. Now I’ll login late at night and do some raids in Japan. During the raid hours I’ll send raids to friends across the country because they missed their chance at raid hour. I spent a lot of money on the game. That’s over now. I’m not a fan of the limit to remote raids, but I don’t mind it TOO much. I just think, like you said, it just deprioritizes helping others out and that’s not good. We should be doing more to help new and low level players. Not excluding them. My brother and nephew just got into the game and I help them out with random raids 5 states and 1000miles away. They rely on me effectively soloing the Pokémon so they have a chance of catching it. Should I really have to be thinking of skipping helping my nephew so that I have a chance to catch a potential shiny legendary? Niantic has made it clear they don’t want remote raiding to be the primary way people engage with the game. But before remote raids were a thing we used to get Legendary Pokémon guaranteed in research breakthroughs weekly. We used to get guaranteed encounters in PVP. With remote raids that was redundant and cast aside. Why aren’t those brought back to balance this shift FOR the players not at the expense of the player base. Why is it our responsibility to handle all the nerfs and just keep on keeping on? I feel so incredibly disrespected and disregarded. If Niantic wanted to, they could make this game incredible to play in person. The problem is they don’t put in the work to do so. In game events are buggy and broken. Their communication is lackluster. Until they put work into making the game enjoyable, I’ll be putting the game down. The community has given many different ways of engaging with the real world and POIs in really fun ways, but those fall on deaf ears. But god forbid we play the game in one convenient aspect. I’m sorry that this decision will unfortunately impact you and the other poketubers income. You’ve dedicated a lot of your time to the game and have brought positive meaningful change and you’re so appreciated by us. But many people will be leaving the game which hurts you and I’m not a fan of that.

Here is what I have to say about this change. Before remote raids got introduced in 2020 I did not do a single 5 star raid boss. Not because I did not want too (Because I did!), it was just impossible for me to do one. I live in a more rural spot and not to many people play in my area. So I never had the fire power to actually complete a tier 5 raid since most Legendaries requires 5 or more Trainers to take it out. When Remote raid passes were introduced in the game it changed the way I played. And I like to think for the better. I was no longer watching other players in cities enjoy the game the way I wanted to. I was finally able to enjoy it the same way. It put me on an equal playing ground. Now that this change is going ahead and the full details have been revealed. In my honest opinion the change that I think is far unnecessary is the price increase for the passes. If we're only able to remote raid 5 times a day then why double the price? I feel like that is absurd. All the other changes that were listed I can live with and understand. And changing in person passes to be cheaper in the bundle is a decent start but Niantic has to do more than that. There are lots of ways they can do this. A couple of examples of how they can incentivize in person raiding is to make the base IV's of in person raid 11-11-11 instead of 10-10-10. This will push people to raid in person if they want to have a higher chance of getting better Pokemon. Another example is if (And they probably wont do) is to perhaps change the shiny rate to be slightly increased. Maybe not for Legendaries since they have a high shiny rate as it is but for all the other tiers of raids. Personally I don't see myself spending any money on the game anymore except for event tickets such as GO Fest.

For me the limit of 5 raids per day is an incredible update, it prevents Pay to win in Master League but still is enough to get some Raids and Candys and shiny checks, but increasing the value of the remote raid passe is basically saying don't use remote raids unless you don't have any other option and if you don't have the money you are screwed. Niantic says that it’s not in their best interest… what irritates me is that they don’t think about the player base interest. They don’t care about what makes it fun for us. I’m sure many players feel the same that raids and catching the raid bosses is the funnest thing about Pokémon GO. Now they are taking that away by doubling the price. If they care about us getting out the house, then they should give us three in person raid passes every day. Another fix, would be to give us coins when we raid. For instants, the hardest hitters should get more coins. That incentivizes us to be competitive. As of now, they have no rewards for players that have the strongest Pokémon, and give them the best move sets and power them up so that they are stronger. Someone at level 25 with cheap Pokémon can join a raid and get the same raid boss. There is no incentive to play the game.

I am disabled and don’t drive. You should not have to be fast to play this game, and I have been complaining about the daily incense since last summer. How can we ‘pay attention to our surroundings’ when we are forced to speed walk in a straight line with blinder-like attention to our phones because we are trying to accurately catch dozens of Pokémon in 15 minutes without using quick catch? Ridiculous for anyone, not just disabled. This new change means I’ll spend nothing on this game, if I don’t quit altogether.

Zoë, you are spot on in your concerns, and i share your shock.1. I am a rural disabled player, these changes will definitely leave me out, and i would suggest that many i know will just quit playing or go from active daily players to casual players. 2. The cost rise is unforgivable... this is a price that also limits those of us who need remotes. Frankly, i feel like niantic doesn't want disabled people to play because these changes target most disabled players. Im a level 50 i am a serious player, who is now seriously considering, do I need to discontinue playng. NIANTIC doesn't seem to want me here, and even though i have worked to foster new players, family and friends how can I promote A NIANTIC game when all they do is for their good and not that of the rural and or disabled community?

The idea (pre-COVID PoGo where big groups showed up and took down a tough boss) is not that bad, but the way they’re going about it is horrible. Instead of making remote raiding almost unusable, why not just give massive buffs to in person raids. I get it, you want people to go out and move and get AR data, but if you made going out a way better option, but letting remote be a viable option at the same time, it just works so much better. I know they know some people can’t get out, whether it be work ( I work during raid hours so can’t go to in person raids then, for example) or medical condition or many other reasons. Even for me, I get out when I can and do raids, but to have people join me for things like a Mega Lati that’s pretty tanky, I just won’t be able to have enough people join during times like that. I don’t get it.

I love remote raids because of the convenience of being able to join it whenever I want. I don't like having the pressure of doing it by a certain time or racing to go somewhere when I'm a full time worker. Pokemon go should be fun, and not a chore. Remote raids are great for shiny hunting/IV hunting/rewards which is great for candy rewards, XP grind, etc. Niantic is trying to be altruistic with this approach by having a sense of "community" but I think they're going to alienate a lot of the players that heavily invest in this game. In person communities will be fine but the global online community is definitely going to take the hit. Not even the console Pokemon games limit raids. I guess we'll see! Thanks for sharing your thoughts zoë ❤

Thanks for your feedback regarding your feelings toward these changes. Unfortunately, I have no positive emotions about Niantic's decision. They created the Elite Raids to manipulate us into participating in local raids. The raids were from Hoopa Unbound and Regidrago. One pokemon was originally behind paid research and another was a new Pokemon release. These are the raids they used to obtain the data needed to kill the remote raids. They manipulated us for their own goals.

One suggestion regarding the "rural players are the losers again" situation: Niantic is certainly technically able to sieve the "rural" players out of the general crowd of trainers; whether it is by the distance to the first Gym to your "most frequent location", the number of Gyms within X radius of that "most frequent location", or the number of gyms that get in your in-game circle on average per day, or else. And depending on that criteria, they should be able to allow people to USE possibly more than 5 remote raids per day. Or the raid passes could be cheaper for this category of trainers... But there needs to be some form of balance put back into the system!

I get they want to discourage you from using them, *BUT* you're killing people who *NEED* to use them (rural, disabled, etc). I'm fine with the 5 daily limit and the damage reduction. That seems like enough to encourage in-person play. Niantic's response to people "boycotting" or "quitting" due to this is spending advert money to entice new players who will never know what the pandemic times in this game were like? Not a good look on them

I use remote raids very often because the raids downtown in our area don’t fall during a time I can play in person. When I am able to play in person, usually the 5* or Pokémon we want to raid are usually not present or you gotta wait for the egg to hatch. Personally, I would love to see gyms have the raids already available to do so we can raid when we want. We can battle the gym if we want or we can just do the raids. Each gym will have a set schedule in which the 1st half the day (6am-2pm) it will have the 1*,3*and 5* or mega on that gym then at 2pm-10pm it switches to a different 1*,3* and if the gym was 5* in am then it be mega in afternoon. Probably not feasible but would be neat

Honestly, if Niantic wants to increase the price for remote raids, fine. I think that financial barrier to entry is not great but it definitely would incentivize the larger player base to save a few dollars and walk to a raid. But I really REALLY dislike the 5 pass daily limit. 5 is way too low. I don’t raid every day but when a new legendary shiny or shiny I want to hunt comes out, I’ll do 20 raids in a day to try and get it. If you have a 4 day event and can only do remote raids at work etc, you’re barely within odds to get a new shiny legendary for example. This is a really bad move. It’s not just about an “average” amount of raiding for ppl. It’s more on those special occasions, how often do ppl raid and I’m sure it’s more than 5.

@Niantic So we’re not going to talk about the fact that we’re asked to do raids for specific Pokémon and the only way to get a shiny/hundo is that which you mainly have to pay for:..but then are told you can only do so many without driving between gyms since there aren’t many near people in rural areas… Either give people boosted shiny odds (1/4) and an encounter from the research breakthrough or simply just allow no cap on daily coin earnings. If the money isn’t the issue then give premium game currency a way to make traveling more appealing for people that are 30min urea outside of a city. Both options are vial me but would also give you the tracking data. My 2 cents on it but hopefully one of tree is a decent option

ok so this bothers me and affects me and id like the share my story so maybe youll see this and use this as an example: on xmas eve 2021 myself and my family were victims of a drunk driver who hit us head on at a combined 100 mph. everyone somehow survived, and my husband (who was driving) and 11-yo son (in the back seat) were not injured miraculously. i was in the passenger seat, and i broke my entire right leg (femur, tibia, fibula) and my entire right foot. i was also 28 weeks pregnant. i was air lifted to the hospital, where i spent xmas day writhing in pain and eventually went under for orthopedic surgery. 2 hours after recovering, there was a problem with my unborn child, and i needed to go back under for emergency c-section. my newborn son survived, but he spent 110 days in the nicu. he ended up developing a grade 4 brain bleed due to the trauma from the accident and my traumatic 27+ hour labor. he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and cystic encephalomalacia (the latter meaning that the brain tissue that was damaged from the bleed turned to a fluid-filled cyst). he only has maybe 20-25% of his brain intact. needless to say, he is severely disabled from this as well as immunocompromised from his chronic lung condition which is due to being born with underdeveloped lungs. fast forward to now, i can walk again, however i cannot walk long distances or on uneven terrain. my foot is still swollen from all of the trauma and likely will never heal back to the way it was. doctors tell me i will likely always have pain when i walk and always have arthritis in my foot, ankle, knee, etc. if this wasn't enough, i obviously care for my baby 24/7. we do not leave the house much because he is so fragile. (perspective: he has been hospitalized for over 2 weeks now for the common cold. had to be put on a ventilator and everything). so playing outside with a bunch of strangers - not a good idea. because of all of the above, since my accident, i havent been able to raid in person. remote raids are the ONLY way im able to raid. im not a big shiny hunter, and i dont have a need for doing 10+ raids a day. but raiding is the easiest way for me to gain experience quickly, as any other methods of grinding just arent feasible for me (i have like 3 spawn points and 0 pokestops/gyms from my house). plus im big on collecting pokemon, and so obviously when they introduce new legendaries or costume pokemon thru raids, thats my only way of getting them. even if i could take an hour and leave my house to raid in person, the community i live in doesnt get together for raids like it used to. i live in a suburb of a major city in virginia. so theres plenty of gyms. but even during raid hours, no one is out raiding. the lobbies are always at 0. its not like it was in 2017/2018 where masses of people would walk the city streets together from gym to gym. the only time ive seen people out doing raids in the last like 4 years has been during BIG events like go fest (not even comm days!) i have found a group of players on discord that are from all over the world, and we are able to remote raid together, and it's been a lot of fun! we're able to coordinate invites on discord so we know we can get enough people for the new legendaries and things like that. but now this community and others like it will be hugely affected by these changes. anyway, like i said, im not huge into shiny hunting and the daily limit for remote raiding doesnt bother me so much (other than its going to be a lot harder to get people to join to help me if theyve already reached their limits). but the fact that its a limit AND nearly doubling the price bothers me. i feel like it could have been one or the other and that would have still limited things to help achieve what niantic is trying to do. but this really does affect a lot of players. ive been playing the game since it first came out, and i will continue to play even after these changes. im not big on boycotting or things like that. but i just want niantic to know that they are really affecting a lot of trainers that are like me, and it feels like we're being forgotten about or hung out to dry. i dont want to be that person that complains and says "its not fair!", but when each raid that i do now costs about $1.50, that adds up! especially when i have a free raid pass and a stack of almost 200 premium passes from back in the day (when bundles used to be good) that i can never use. i want to make sure that niantic hears players like me, and knows how badly these changes will affect how we are able to play the game.

Prior to remote raiding, I raided with a group of coworkers but that group has mostly left and moved geographically now. Honestly, the last time I went to a raid train I didn't find it as fun either going from stop to stop for 4 hours and getting 14 to 15 raids in. Most of the raids I've done has been since Covid started and through third-party applications where I can queue in anytime. While I do live in a large city, campfire is mostly silent constantly. Even during community days, i rarely see anyone raiding except for the few times the small group I was with pulled in people from third-party applications. I can see the justification of the price increase on them but definitely not limiting to 5 per day. For me when I do raid for a pokemon that I really want, I tend to run upwards of 20 raids per day through remote raids. The accessibility of raids for me is what makes things so great because I don't have to plan my days around trying to organize and travel somewhere when I can pop in whenever I want. While I'm sure this change makes sense in the context of the data niantic has and the financial goals they have, it really hurts the player experience.

OK so to be honest I really don't think these changes will effect me the same way they will other players, that being said I do spend money on this game and I am a level 50 trainer so obviously I raid as much as anyone else. I say let the people have their feelings either way but there is no need for people to stop playing all together. I'm clearly not saying make them stay (as if anyone could lol) or make them go. I think we need to remember that most people will still go out and play this game, either for the love of the game or the love of Pokemon. People love Pokemon, myself included, and I've helped build 2 different communities (1 before I moved and 1 after) off that love, and both communities will be just fine. These communities understand that getting outside and talking to each other and helping coordinate the different lobbies for raids is the easiest and safest way for people to beat harder raids. Not to mention that for some of the people these communities are there friends or family. With all that said I just so happen to also be apart of 2 online communities ,the GO Cast Podcast discord community and the Lured Up Podcast discord community, and would love to see these communities thriving and raiding together is a huge part of that. I don't think many of them will stop playing all together but I know for a fact most of them a bummed about the limitations set on the number of raids per day that can be done.

Scenario: If I'm hosting a raid and I need extra players to take down the raid boss, I don't want to send invites to players who have already hit their raid cap limit and cannot join, to then fail to complete the raid and lose an in-person raid pass (in particular, if there is not a lot of time left on the raid boss timer).

I think one of the best ways they could combat the disappointment that is bound to come up for a lot of players would be to introduce new features in the game. New things to do that capture people's interests and attention. I really enjoy having tasks to do each day, or when tasks come up in timed or special research. Things that I have to actively work towards completing. I personally don't raid a whole lot except the occasional raid hour, or for new releases / shiny hunting. But I can see this being something that kills the game for a lot of players. Besides catching Pokemon and PVP, what else is there to do besides raid? And not every player likes using every feature. I personally can't stand PVP, and I almost never use it unless I have to in order to complete a task. This change is going to make people both angry and bored, which doesn't seem like a great way to attract players long-term. And limiting a feature which probably makes them a boatload of money seems like a terrible business move. I wish Niantic had listened to the people who said, instead of limiting this feature, INCENTIVIZE in-person raid passes more. For example, make it so that in-person raids have increased shiny odds or something. A small discount on passes and possible extra candy is probably not going to do much for a lot of people. Give people a real reason to go out and be there in person, rather than taking something away that they enjoy. That's my take on this latest kerfuffle. 🤷‍♀

Also - on raid day I help different small groups around world through out the day - which I now will have to choose. Weather in some places can have you stuck in house for days - so is everyone driving in bad conditions and sitting in their cars at the same time considered better? And as you mentioned - some players will be left behind either because there are not enough friends to help them and/or they do not have access to a lot of gyms or at the right times. So much more could be said - but I do not think that Niantic is being totally honest with their motives.

Niantic is missing the point on how fascinating it is for players to be connected to other players 10,000 miles away. Besides I find it patronizing to be “forced to go out”. We are not kids for the most part. At least remote passes will be available from research breakthroughs which is not the case right now unless I am mistaken.

Hi - I think you did a great job of covering points about who and why remote raids but as well as being rural and/or disabled there is the issue of weather. Some locations have playable weather 300 + days a year while in other places snow, rain and storms can make certain raid times/dates impossible or unsafe for months at a time.
