Something you didn't mention and may not be aware of is that every game you showed seems or is known to be derived from the Lyra 3rd person shooter premade template that comes with Unreal Engine 5, just with edited settings and swapped assets. That's why they feel just "competent enough" without excelling or setting themselves apart, while looking and feeling very similar. I also wonder how many of Kompete's "players" are just bots made to look like players. This is also common in multiplayer Web3 games, to fake the presence of real people with bots.

@@Jamesgates355 You want to know the funny thing? I can name two examples - in games that DON'T use crypto or NFTs. The first one? Team Fortress 2 and Portal 2. Some TF2 cosmetics were added to Portal 2 when the latter launched and it's cross-compatible. The second one? Fortnite and Rocket League. When they launched the Chapter 5 update, they allowed some cars from Rocket League to be used in Fortnite Battle Royale (as skin for the Whiplash car) and in Fortnite Rocket Racing (as regular race car). And any car you buy or unlock in Fortnite, you will be able to use in Rocke League.

In the Kiraverse game, the crash log is hard for me to read but it looks like a null access error which would likely mean their system is querying the server for the top players, and NO player list is being returned. It then assumes it would at least get something and accesses it, throwing the crash. So quite literally the crash seems to be that there are no players on the leaderboard lol

GRIT is such a bummer. I heard about it a couple years ago and was kind of interested. A wild west BR? I wanted to give it a go so I wishlisted it in Steam. After missing the playtest and then silence from the devs for months, I decided to look around the internet for any info on progress. Then I stumbled upon the Gala website saying it was turned into an NFT/crypto game. Literally out of nowhere. NTFs blew up and they decided to delay the game even longer to implement that garbage, ensuring it would be DOA. What a shame because I did like the idea.

You likely wouldn't have gotten a good product out of gala games regardless of the crypto/nft aspect. I watch Jauwn, who does a series like this, and every gala games' game, is mediocre at best. I really hope a better development team uses this idea at some point and you're able to play a game you'll enjoy!

The fact of the matter is that the vast majority of crypto games are "made" by first-time Devs or non-Devs who used asset store packs to frankenstein something together. I'm involved in Crypto games and what's really holding it back is narcissist monsters trying to cash grab and claim they can make MMORPGs in a matter of months with 20 people (none of which are developers). It's madness... It's madness that anyone believes these dipshits too... So I'm glad you're exposing these games for what they are. Bad first-time outings (or asset store packs) from people with little to no game dev experience trying to cash grab.

I was an artist for a crypto game. I was pretty deep in the koolaid at one point. But tbh, I think I just told myself that to justify it, and primarily I was more excited to make art and put stuff in a game. It's been over a year since I've had any work given to me, which is fine by me. I've had time to consider what I actually wanted to do and am pursuing that instead.... away from web3 and crypto.

Kompete was cryptogame? I wasn't interested in it but saw few streamers from philippines stream it (i watch their content for personality, they play better games most of the time but i can see why new free games catch their interests). They seemed to have fun but that group has fun in any game they touch so it is not complementing the game. Btw Kira i think you forgot to show the nft/crypto features for Kompete? I assume they are skins but are they for weapons or characters? And which currency? How much? Oh damn.. now i remember some of their (streamers) random teammates having clown skins and green hair. (Some enemies too but am not sure if that game has bots - if it has it would be smart move from devs to show the skins on bots giving impression that people buy and use the skins.. then again aren't nfts supposed to be unique? So bots using skins can also be bad advertising cuz people might think "i won't be able to get THAT skin"). Still a bad game. Movement and shooting looks clunky.. kinda like unpolished PUBG. Even if i was interested in BR games i would not had given Kompete a chance.

I (very) briefly worked for a company trying to market "steam for NFT games" and the marketing materials were like ... every single time they needed a graphic it was axie infinity, because it was literally the only one that anybody would recognise. Like, to have a Steam equivalent you need enough titles to make a marketplace worthwhile and there just isn't anything.

nft games are jsut the distilaltion of mobile games. mobile games are only for the whales, but they still have to make a product for the rest of us. nft games say "prove you're a whale FIRST, then you can play" thus reducing the content they have to make. it's natural evolution imo. laws that control the cesspool that is "mobile gaming" are too late. it's gonna keep getting worse. the next step will be having to open or link a bank account with the game company making the nft scam in order to even log in. your user will be your account number, your pass will be your pin. and legislation is still thinking if they should regulate lootbox gambling. we are 3 generations past that.
