the worst doordash order experience

So just recently I had an extremely unfortunate order where the customer gave me the completely incorrect address after waiting over AN HOUR for their food. Really just had to vent with this one... I don't like to promote the negativities that can come with this gig, but THIS I had to share. I 100% mean this when I say I've never had ANYTHING like this happen in my 2,500+ deliveries as a DoorDash Driver 🤦‍♂️

That sucks . You got multiple problems with one order. I’ve had the customer change the address on me about 4 times out of 800. It’s super frustrating because at that point you pretty much have to deal with it and eat the money and time loss. DoorDash support is a joke in situations like this and really needs to improve. But thankfully changes of address are pretty rare. And I’m glad they at least tipped well! As far as the restaurant taking forever I just plain don’t wait anymore. I unassign the order as soon as I’ve waited 8-10 minutes past the pick up time. I don’t think the employees at the restaurants fully understand the time is money concept sometimes so I try to let them know I will have to leave and unassign the order so someone else can grab it. Unfortunately we don’t get paid more for waiting longer so we have to do what we have to do to make the gig still a profit for us. But if someone lies to my face about the time just to get me to stay I walk out, if they can’t respect my time and way of making a living then they can deal with the food sitting there until the next dasher comes. Way to hang in there though! Keep it up

Per Door Dash, we are ONLY supposed to deliver to the address Door Dash provides us as fees and delivery charges are based on distance. Some people deliberately give the wrong address because they know their current location will cost them more.

In my first hundred deliveries I had a “hand it to me order” they claimed to never receive their food.. because of this I won’t accept any dash under $6 for 3 miles if they won’t tip they’ll leave you a bad review or claim they got nothing. Now if im invaded by my customers I film my delivery or take a picture of them taking the food

I've had someone with the wrong address as well. Said 0.5 miles and it ended up being like 6 miles. Had to contact support. It was like an hour delivery. DoorDash Support gave me a bonus $3.00 on top on the $8.50 order. Then the customer gave me a $5 cash tip for the trouble.

I don’t even have a full week in yet. I started Friday and today is Tuesday. Over the Labor Day weekend I had an order with the wrong address. I had another stacked order that I had to get delivered. I went back to the customer and grabbed his order off the wrong porch and went up the street to the right house. The guy put the wrong house number and it was a leave at door order. Most of the time yes to get around DoorDash's mileage limit. Why we get these 12 to 20 miles orders is actually NOT due to DoorDash, it's because these restaurants offer delivery service on their website and the restaurant places the order with DoorDash for delivery. These restaurants don't understand why delivery services have mileage limits and frankly most don't care because none of their employees are the ones delivering these 20 mile orders. Most Dominos and Pizza Huts have a delivery radius limit of 6 to 8 miles. If the customer is further away than this they will tell the customer they don't deliver that far away and to contact a location that is closer to them. There are 2 main reasons for this: #1 it's inconsiderate of the delivery driver's vehicle to ask them to deliver this far and #2 the food will be cold by the time you deliver an order that is 20 miles away because that will take 30 to 40 minutes just to drive the order to their location.

I'm new to Doordash. I usually make my money Instacarting full time. The other night I accepted a Dash at a Burger King. It was for two whoppers. I get to the order station in the drive-thru and tell the worker I am there to pick up Angel's order. I am told that Angel called in and wants his 3 Doordash orders delivered together and that I will have to wait in the parking lot for his orders. But, there is a car behind me in line and I can not reverse back into the parking lot. There are about 3 cars in front of me. When I get to the window I tell the worker I am there to pick up Angel's order. I see another worker bagging Angel's 3 orders together. I can see this because there are 3 receipts taped to the bag. The man who bagged the orders was the original guy who told me to wait in the parking lot. When he came to the window I told him that I just need Angel's 1 order for the two whoppers. He screams at me and tells me that if I don't take all 3 orders than I have to get out of the drive-thru. Somehow I figured out that the car behind me was also there to pick up one of Angel's 3 orders. I got out of my van to speak with them but was not wearing a mask. The Dasher yelled at me to get away from her. Wow! Ok! So I get back in my van and tell the worker in the window to give me all 3 orders. On my way to Angel's I notice that the car behind me in the drive-thru was now following me. I guess they were pissed I had their order too. Once at Angel's I contact Support and while I am on the phone with them Angel starts blowing up my phone asking where his food is. I tell him to come out to my van because I do not feel safe exiting my vehicle. The other Dasher ended up leaving and I sternly told Angel that the next time he places 3 orders at the same time, do not call the store and tell them to combine them. Not Cool! Also, the rude Burger King worker that F'd it all up was the General Manager. Go figure. All of that for $9.50. Thanks Doordash!

Walmart order, paying like $25. Waited FOREVER for the order, mad groceries and a case of beer. Got to the neighborhood SUPER SCKETCY. I didnt want to get out of my car. I had this happen the other day. I dropped the order at the address given and a man takes it and says 'thanks' and then i get a call saying where is my food... I said at the address I have and she says no that isn't where we are, I explained that since the food was delivered to the address she would need to speak to doordash to see what they can do. I called support as I knew this was gonna be a nightmare even though I had done everything right. Support assured me this wouldn't have any affect on my ratings etc 2 days later I get a 1 star review! I knew this was the only order that had an issue. I speak to support and they acknowledge that is the bad review and they can see the notes and she was refused a refund and took it out on me but they REFUSE to remove it! Ughhhhhh so crap

Ok so usually when the food isn’t ready, I ask them for an estimated time. And if they say 10 min or less, I will wait. If I notice it starts to get around the 15 min mark, and the merchant still doesn’t have the order ready, I ask to speak with them and looking at them with sad puppy eyes, I ask them to be completely honest with me about how much longer they think it will be. If I feel like they won’t have it ready like within the next 5 min, I bounce outta there and cancel the order. I know that drops my completion rate but I ain’t finna loose money wasting my time waiting for an order to be ready when it should have been ready by the pick up time, ESPECIALLY if there’s a $3+ per order incentive where I know I could be hustling completing orders that are ready. This stuff happens to all if us tho. Happy dashing mate!

I've had orders (usually Walmart grocery orders) that I've waited 1+ hours for before, but never had the wrong address on top of that! I can imagine what a nightmare that must be! Customers at least need to keep their info updated! The worst food order I've had so far was a Sonic order. I was turning into the restaurant to pick up an order (last order of the night I wasn't going to accept but I thought oh why not just one more? 🙄) and receive a call from a 800 number. I answered thinking it was a spam call but it was Sonic. She explained that their pipes were frozen due to no heat so they couldn't make the 2 milkshakes (order was for 2 milkshakes and 1 foot long hotdog.) She said she had no way to contact the customer could I contact him and ask if he wanted something in place of that, a partial refund, or full refund and I can tell her when I get there. I said "absolutely and I'm pulling into Sonic right now!" Called customer no answer. Messaged him and no response. Called a second time and he answered (I figured he thought it was wrong number first call so I'd try one more time) and I explained the situation. He was super nice said can you ask if they can do 2 blah blah blah slushies and if not, refund is fine. So, I am standing out on the patio right in front of the glass wall & door where they make us pick up and I call the lady at Sonic. She says she can make the slushies I say awesome I'm still right outside to pick it up as soon as it is finished! Take in mind, it was -6 with the wind chill that night! I wait and wait and wait 20+ min go by and I am frozen so bad it hurts so I go get in the car and pull over to the patio. This entire time, she had waved at me and made eye contact/ seen me standing there over and over again everytime she walked by. I kept the customer updated and kept apologizing and wait another 20ish min. I didn't want to bug her since she had drive thru customers but finally I was like ok this is crazy and this poor customer must think this is a nightmare or a joke! So, I call and say, "This is so and so I hate to bug you again but do you know about how much longer it will take to make the 2 slushies and hotdog so I can let the customer know an ETA?" She says, "Oh, the order has been done I've just been waiting on you to get here!" 🙄🥴 Nicest girl ever but wow... Lol! Explained yet again I was there this entire time and she even waved at me. "Oh... I didn't know that was you!" I wanted so badly to be like... You thought some random person in a doordash mask, with a huge doordash hot bag, and a doordash cooler bag standing in the doordash pickup designated spot in -6 degree weather waiting for nearly an hour at 10pm was who exactly if not me, the doordash driver of your only doordash order???? Lol! Like I said, I am so thankful that customer was super nice and super understanding! He gave me a perfect rating with awesome "above and beyond" comments when I expected a 1 star rating plus customer support called on me lol!

I’ve had this persons address does not accept the North part of their address. Turns out their address was 21 miles away from what door dash said it was going to be 2.5 miles. So I just took a picture and left it where the address on the door dash said, because the lady/customer was rude, and told her that I’ll drop it off at the address where the door dash took me to and sent her a picture. So she ended up going to the address I dropped it off for her. Oh and she did not tip.

After 15 minute of waiting. Call them and have it assigned to another driver. Don't unasign yourself or you get a contract violation. If you chose to wait, like in this case, fine. But after arriving at the dropoff point. It's to your discretion whether your deliver it to the other address or not. Just start the 5 min timer or again, call and they'll tell u what to do. But you did the right thing morally

Yes Ive actually had the same kind of experience at a sushi place as well and I also waited an hour! I got to a sushi restaurant in Cape Canaveral in Fl and the woman initially said she didn't receive a door dash order but quickly said oh she saw it and that they would have it ready in 15 min. I was the only person in the store because it is To Go Only pickup. I waited about 5 minutes and a new customer pulls up to place an order and he got his order prepared and ready and he drove with his food. Now it's about 20 min in and I told her I was going to move my car closer and ill be right back. When I got back a new customer was there placing an hour. 40 min in I asked her if everything was going ok because she said 15 min and it's been 40. She said yes and she will bring it out to my car. Then the other new customer got his food and he drove off. Then at about 55 min she came out to hand me a bag and then said there is still one more bag left and then she apologized for the long wait, then talked about her night a little bit then told me to have a good night . I had to remind her that I still needed the second bag . She apologized and went to go get it so now 60 min all together. My customer was very awesome so it worked out ok. I did have a delivery yesterday where the customer put the restaurant I picked up from as his delivery address so that was funny. And a few who don't put their apartment # and 2 so far who put the wrong address.

I had a stacked order for chillis that i waited over 45 min for. When i left the app gave me 3min to drop the farthest one that was over 7miles away. Got a late hit ony acct. Door trash said it wasnt my fault and was going to fix it. Guess what... They didnt fix it

something similar happened to me but not in doordash a competitor of doordash, I waited like for an hour plus they didn't even had items the customer order so I had to call back and fouth until the customer agreed on what items they wanted plus a few miles drive, at least that app when i explain it to customer support the agreed to pay me an hourly rate for the 1 hour waiting time but I still upset

Had no orders coming through finally got one it was like 8$ for like 4 miles not bad, pull up to the ladies house, start to call her cuz it was a hand it to me order and the feds come out of no where because the lady has a warrant 🤦🏼‍♀️I’m like I’m just the dd I gave them the food took pictures for dd support proof called her to let her know I was outside she said leave the food there and I left. I immediately called support and sent them the picture because I was like I promise I delivered the food but Idk if she gonna be able to eat it.... 😩

I accepted an order, got to the location and called the customer to let her know I arrived but it's not the business she typed in the app long story short I received directions from her, her coworker all to find out she was located in Ohio and I'm in Kansas!! I drove around for at least an hour and a half trying to get her order to her!!!I'm still trying to figure out how that happened 🤔🤔

I just had an order it was like 12:30 and I picked it up this guy told me not to deliver it until 1:30 cause he didn't want people knowing he ordered food he said he would leave me a 6 dollar tip if I dropped it off by 1:30 so I dropped it off at 1:30 and he said he forgot his wallet and thT he would leave it on doordash he never gave it too me

Happens to me the same day, Easter Sunday but it was not that far like you. 6 minutes into a wrong location and then 6 minutes to deliver it to the correct location. Pick up was smooth so I didn’t complain at all.

You are not required to deliver to anywhere but the address that is on the order screen. That is the customer's fault and many times customers do this to get around DoorDash's mileage limit on placing orders. Why we get these high mileage orders is actually not due to DoorDash, but rather the restaurants that offer delivery service on their website. These restaurants don't understand mileage limits because none of their employees are delivering these 12 to 20 miles orders so they don't understand that the majority of delivery drivers won't accept these offers. The initial offer screen is a contract and when you accept you are only obligated to deliver to the address on the screen. You drop off the food at the location the customer provided and call DoorDash support and explain to them the customer entered the incorrect delivery address on the order screen. DoorDash support will let you know you are only obligated to deliver to the address on the screen or you can deliver to the new address the customer gave you, but never will they increase the payout of the offer if the delivery location changes so you should never deliver to another address other than what is on your screen. Take your picture of the food at the drop off location and then it's on the customer to pick up their food. The other area you messed up on was waiting more than 15 minutes for the order. After the 15 minutes you should have hunt down that employee and asked how much longer and if they say anything other than the cooks are bagging the order up right now, you leave the restaurant and unassign the order. DoorDash doesn't pay you extra to wait and you just need to explain to the restaurant that some other Dasher will eventually come to pick this order up and leave. My limit on waiting is 10 minutes. If the employees tell me 10 minutes or longer for the order, I will unassign the order and leave. Don't worry about your metrics. You will either take a hit on your completion % if you unassign or take a hit on your on time % if you wait. Also never believe customers when they say they will give you an additional tip if you deliver to the new address because 90% of the time they are lying and won't give you anything extra. My completion rate is 86% and my on time rate is 97%. That should explain to you that I don't wait for orders. My personal delivery radius acceptance is 8 miles. Sometimes I will go up to 10 miles if it is slow and the payout is at least $15, but out of my almost 1,000 deliveries that has only happened a few times.

Sorry to hear the unfortunate delivery story. This type of thing happens once or twice a year for me. Just try to get your mind focused on the next delivery. Not long ago one of my customers put the wrong address and it wasted easily 30 minutes of my time.

When a customer text me to deliver to a different address I would contact support immediately and the only options are either they have to cancel the order and give you half pay for your time or deliver it to the original address. By doing this you would be able to keep the food and get that half pay and not waste any more time.
