The mere fact that it was actually Emilia, and my first thoughts were Satella, is horrifying. Emilia is acting in such an unhinged way, that I genuinely thought she was possessed by Satella again but she had just gone insane. She didn’t have any reaction to him being heavily injured and dying. The kiss of death was by far Subaru’s worst death. It may not have been as bad as being eaten alive, but the emotional toll of this will carry over after his reset. I really don’t know how Subaru will get through this.

Emilia, mentally is a child, younger than subaru. Shes not a strong person, just a kind person. When she came to her senses, with her memories subconsiously suppressed, puck being there, was all she needed to stand on her feet. 1 person that would support her. In the current time, puck is not here, regardless of the why, her only emotional support is subaru, and without recieving his letter, she experience it as him dissappearing, or potentially abandoning her, because shes a failure for failing the trial. Then everyone turns against emilia, at this point shes in full panic mode, in despair, with no one to turn to. So she tries to do the thing she feels is the reason its going wrong, the trial. When subaru appears, she desperately wants subaru to stay with her, not to abandon her. She knows what subaru feels and wants, and says whatever he would want her to say and do under normal circumstances. At this point, i believe her ego is unable to comprehend the current situation, so she doesnt understand that subaru is dying. This was the worst loop for subaru just for this one element. Hes able to retain his sanity, because the ppl around him who hes close to are supporting him, even if he breaks temporarily. I believe this was the first time someone else broke, and its the one who comforts him the most, and that is something that is truly terrifying to experience, even if everything returns to normal after he dies.

I remember hearing that the way Re:Zero's story is, each arc is linked to a given sin that Subaru must confront. In the main story, he overcomes it, and the "IF" stories are when he gives in to the sin. Arc 1, if I recall, was Pride, and the IF story diverges from if he does not seek help from Reinhardt. Arc 2 was Wrath, and the IF diverges when he lets Beatrice save him and doesn't jump from the cliff. Arc 3 is where the famous Sloth IF comes from, where he successfully convinces Rem to run away with him. I don't know any further than these ones because I'm planning to read more after the arcs finish in the anime, but if I had to guess, Greed is looking like the best suited for this arc, and to overcome it, Subaru might have to give up on the mansion. (...or Sanctuary, but we all know he won't let Emilia die by Great Rabbit)

Seeing Emilia like that my first thoughts were, Oh ok it's Satella she's pretending to be Emilia to get to subaru, but then Satella can't speak that clearly right? Last episode all she was saying was I love you and Subaru-kun. Man the realization alone that, that Insane looking yandere, who didn't even notice Subaru lost an eye and clearly hurting was Emilia just ran a chill down my spine that stayed even after the episode ended, I don't know how but after watching the ep I was just shivering for almost 30 minutes dumbfounded and terrified by what I saw.

Despite Beatrice being isolated and alone for 400 years, I bet the reason she acts so coldly and annoyed with Subaru when he keeps coming in was because of her contract. She stated that she got her hopes up every time when that door opened because she was expecting "That Person" to relieve her of the contract... But each time it was dorky Subaru. Shit's sad.

The anime left some of her words out. The sad thing is, Subaru is not the first. There were many others over the years, who wished to end her contract - some wanted the Archive's knowledge, some wanted her power as a spirit, some even genuinely wished to set her free - but no succeeded. Every time someone new opened the door, her hope was reignited - many times, until there was nothing left to burn. Subaru was the first one who fooled around and messed with her having no idea who or what she is. Maybe that's why she's fine with being killed by him. In 400 years he might be the first one who she considered something like a friend.

Big question that I think will shine a light on some other mysteries is: Where is Puck/ Why did he vanish? Puck was fully aware that he was going to disappear for a while as he told Subaru to take care of Emilia. It seems that Puck knew that Emilia was going to face something big and that she needed to face the trials with her own strength. Either that or outside influence (maybe Satella) isn’t permitting him.

If I were Subaru I'd start by figuring out the mansion. Sign a contract with Beatrice to end her life after x happens (this can possibly be twisted into a way for Subaru to help Beatrice not want to die too) and use her power smartly along with Frederica and Ram. Start by killing Elsa after figuring out how her power works and use the fact that she likes to work independently to isolate her so it's 4 on 1. Then you'd need to figure out how to fight Meili, or ideally she would retreat after Elsa's dead. If Frederica, Beatrice, Ram and Subaru aren't enough to beat Elsa, or it's impossible to isolate her from Meili then instead you'd need to start by beating all the trials in sanctuary and then convince Garfiel to help in the fight too (which wouldn't be easy). Next up is to travel back to the sanctuary to deal with the great white rabbit. Roswaal would make the perfect lure (and he can just fly away after drawing it in) and Ryuzu's clones hopefully have enough firepower to take them all out. I think the worst case scenario here is that the original clone of Ryuzu would have to sacrifice herself, or you could try the nuclear option by waking the original Ryuzu in the crystal. Subaru would need to keep Emilia in mind too, because her emotional state and sanity are also his responsibility with Puck gone.
