Oh, yeah. That scene was haaaard. Was legitimately scared of thought that Todd actually might have understood Subaru's ability. That thought was so threatening and intimidating I almost felt danger seeping from the screen right into my room. The way Satella fixed the decreasing time between deaths and checkpoints makes you question the entire mechanic of RBD as well.

My Theory is that Subaru subconsciously sets his checkpoint.... and the side story of Wrath and Pride made me believe so. When Subaru finally defeated Bowl Hunter he woke up to an unfamiliar ceiling in the roswald mansion, he felt 'at ease' creating a check point. Once he accomplished defeating whale he felt 'at ease' that his task was successful and created a checkpoint When he defeated beteguese and rode off with Emilia he finally felt 'at ease' creating a checkpoint. The reason both side stories made me believe this is because once he accomplished his goal/ambitions, (feeling at ease w his life) he was allowed to die.

I remember dropped re zero wn after few chapters from this chapter. But glad you are enjoying it. This chapter was good. As for RBD, you can also interpret as there are two versions of RBD. One loveless and other one is loved one. The loveless version is original RBD without satella intervention. Meaning its subaru envy authority. On the other hand, love RBD is one with RBD with satella control. In this satella uses her power to set the checkpoint giving subaru the time needed. Basically Satella is in control of this RBD. If u remember few chapter ago, satella said "where are you", meaning satella lost the control of subaru and can't able to see him. Due to this subaru authority started working to original. Very similar to Al authority. This is the best explanation I came when i was reading that chapter. Now i am not updated anymore so maybe i can be wrong.

You should give arc 8 a shot, it has many great chapters and it seems like in it Tappei finally realized what direction to go with the story, i also was iffy at arc 7 because i thought (and still believe) that it was bloated and had no general direction. But arc 8 fixes (most) of that and completes most plotlines

I don't know if it's true, but my theory was that the "Malfunctioning return by death" was the result of Al using his powers to protect Subaru while the witch was unable to find him.

this isnt it, that was a theory for a bit but its not true. when olbart changed subarus soul, it caused satella to be unable to recognize him. thats why he he said it was “an RBD without love” during his 13 seconds of death by olbart. if i had to guess, satella couldn’t recognize him cuz she only see people by their souls. since it was manipulated to make him look smaller, it changes how his soul looked to her. satella, or the WoE to be specific, has been stated to be unable to understand or speak human language. thats why where i get that theory from. to further the point that it WASNT Al. Remember, Al got his powers back when Subaru was stuck in that big black mass or the “great disaster”. He had Olbart turn him back then he helped stop Subaru or Satella from going wild. Thats when Subaru teleported to gladiator island. So it literally could not be Als power, since it was still malfunctioning even after he left in the same exact way (only sending him back to right before he dies). Als power also has limits. He calls it a “domain” because it only works in a specific range around him. He cant give it to other people, as it only works on himself.

Yeah that scene was diffidently something. It epic but it also detracts a bit from the tension of the whole series a little bit. The series not reach the same heights as this scene. though I will admit i started Reading Malazan so my standards increased for tension. Tappei did start giving other characters attention but hovered them to long. He also completely forget about Ram even though he started arc 7 out with her perspective and it has been around 30 books from there last conversation. We kind of needed more time with her through out the arc.

@@mimijones7294i think rather than “amplifier” satella is able to set subarus checkpoint. basically, shes the one who allows him to have a “checkpoint”. the dying and coming back is a power subaru has but its not something he can control. if i had to guess, it has something to do with the od lagna. subaru has a special soul, he has been through the “filter” of souls multiple times but hasnt had his memories wiped. probably having to do something with him being from earth. this is because he had multiple books in the book of the dead, they mention the od lagna “wipes” a soul clean and reuses it when someone dies. their memories are stored in the hall of memories, which are then recorded by the taygeta library as books of the dead. so before subarus soul is filtered, it somehow “comes back”. and satella, probably by accessing the “worlds memories” turns back clock further than what subarus RBD naturally does. satella has immense power, she almost destroyed the world. i think its possible she can “destroy” the futures where subaru dies by helping him go further back. this is mostly because RBD would be pretty useless without it. but this makes me wonder… RBD might be something every person from earth has. maybe their souls, because theyre from earth and not lugunica, “bounce back” due to not being a soul created by the od lagna, thus being unable to truly die. the “worlds memories” were something mentioned by echidna. thats what she uses for her book of wisdom, which allows her to see the past and future. the ones she gave to roswaal and betty were imperfect copies that only told the users future. she can somehow “read” the world memories, meaning theyre a tangible thing one can manipulate if they have the power to. echidna can ONLY read them, but what if satella could control it? theoretically, she can “erase” those memories and it would turn back time.

@@ChibiReviews It seems like RBD works even if Satella can't find Subaru, but it's weaker, thus Subaru could technically have 2 checkpoints his own, and the one Satella chooses for him, his authority without her seems to just choose a checkpoint at random and then go forward ten seconds everytime he dies with a limit of ten seconds (this could be due to him not really knowing how it works, as he might be able to choose his own checkpoint consciously if he "practiced" with it like Al did) with Satella it's just RBD, checkpoints choosen by her with the best interest of Subaru in mind
