since a few comments are discussing the disclaimer at the end. i don't think i got my intended message across as well as i could. i care deeply about inclusivity and the issues that marred DP2 are unfortunate. i'm not asking for perfect, faultless characters but i'm pleading that voices of minorities are listened to when their characters are being written. i'm not the right person to address the issues in every nuance, and have linked to people who are in the description. i'm happy to see Swery and the studio listening to the community and addressing it and hope to see this kind of approach in future titles. trans rights are human rights. any revenue generated by this video is being donated to trans lifeline. thank you for watching and thank you to Swery and the rest of the DP2 team for creating a truly one-of-a-kind-experience.

I think you addressed this point very well; both here and at the end of the video. You are articulate and thoughtful, which is rad.

As a trans person, I appreciated it. As a latecomer to the whole series (only discovered it this year) I've only played the game post-patch, but from what I gather the deadnaming would have been in the bar room confrontation scene to serve a dramatic purpose, York exposing Lena as the missing Clarkson (but since it's completely obvious without it, I'm glad that clumsy gesture was nixed). Lena herself gives me mixed feelings - she's clearly intended to be a somewhat sympathetic villain - but the whole "queer villain" trope is surely outdated by now (or ought to be). Kind of cool that she got one over on the game's "devil", though, and turned out to have been secretly helping York (if hardly for altruistic reasons). She's no triumph of trans representation, but I can take her at face value as a cool anti-villain with no transphobic intent. Actually, I was a bit more dismayed at poor Avery being left to carry the can when he hardly seemed capable of understanding his crimes (While the game dances a bit around the issue of just how mentally challenged he is, his final boss form does at least confirm he has severe maturity issues, so prison for life seems pretty brutal for the poor sod).

Ok, damn good review of the sequel to one of my favorite guilty pleasures of all time, the quality of this is off the charts for such relatively overlooked channel. The audio, filmography, pacing, video quality, dedication to the role, and overall camera work had me distraught when I saw the low view count and low sub count. You earned a sub from me and here's hoping one of these vids eventually puts you on the map; more people need to make videos like this.

I actually loved dp2. The characters of course, the vibe of the town, it was perfect as far as my sensibilities go. The framerate didnt even bother me. What killed it for me was the time sensitive missions in combination with god awful load times. I remember going into the hotel from the open world to sleep off some time for a mission, waking up, leaving, realizing that i forgot something in the hotel, going back into the hotel, and then having to leave again. That sequence alone made me sell the game. Each time i came or went from the hotel was a damn 50 second to sometimes a minute and a half load screen, and i just couldnt do it. I finally got the pc version when it was on sale though, and i cant wait until i find the time to play it. Because i do miss the setting and characters.

As someone who’s recently become really curious about these games despite not having played them nor planning to, your take on the sequel fascinates me, because it’s very similar to what people say about DP1 - which had poor graphics, bad gameplay, weird sound-mixing and took perhaps a bit too much inspiration from Twin Peaks, but it’s flaws added to its surrealist charm and the story and characters had a lot of heart poured into them. However, from what I’ve seen many diehard DP1 fans don’t have high opinions of DP2 and think it lacks what made the original special. I can’t say I understand why that is as again I haven’t played the games myself and know way less about the sequel than the original, but it’s very interesting. I can definitely relate when people wax poetic about games and stories that are really bad but also really good in their eyes.

the best thing about deadly premonition 2 is the revelation that Francis York Morgan knows exactly how crazy he is and how he comes off to people and he persists unabated. more than that it shows swery knows exactly how crazy the games he makes are. the worst thing about deadly premonition is of course the times when the frames drop into the single digits.

Ok but besides the technical issues DP2 is vastly inferior to the original. The mystery/story was worse and made less sense, the game is quite padded and rehashes bits from the original needlessly like following the dog. The action bits/otherworld were copy-pasted more than being actually dark-versions-of-the-current-location as in DP1. At least York/Zach was still done well, but... I just finished the game and I feel it was the last, I don't see any need to play it again, unlike the first.

I guess I'll be that guy. Excellent content as always... Until that last part. Felt shoehorned in, tacked on by obligation, unnecessary to the point that it took away from the rest. Regarding the topic itself, I feel the original content was intended a certain way, and people refused to take it that way, or make any attempt to comprehend it before attacking it. I feel the entire discussion of the topic are no different than IGN giving DP1 a score of 2. Even Swery said it was unintentional, but I couldn't find anyone trying to understand the intent. Which is stupid, in my opinion. More so to the point of ridiculous irony especially given the game in question. It's a game most won't get, and in your entire video you explain how its flaws only make it better. Except that ONE THING, which is apparently unforgivable and on which can only be held one single "correct" opinion; all others are wrong. And I hate how any topic relating to trans anything turns into that. Must all inclusions be perfect when every other topic is allowed to be wrong, flawed, intentionally screwed up to make a point? It's a shame really, because I feel that doing so--demanding 'correct' inclusion--creates more of a divide by overcorrection. Given the care put into the rest of your video, your final statement didn't match. It felt forced, forced by the fear of causing upset simply by omission of support and inclusion. If you want to get into detail about the topic, I'd love to watch a video on it, as you put a lot of effort into covering things, addressing the flaws (this game, KH, etc) and yet not utilizing them to dismiss the work, nor dismissing the flaws, but still being able to articulate what you love about them. Otherwise, I'd just leave the topic alone so it doesn't detract from what your main point was. Hope this is clear, and not taken as I didn't intend. But still though, good video. Good production.
@timmm_2 жыл бұрын
thank you for watching sorry i couldn't deliver the issue i have with the inclusivity issues isn't about it not being correct, or perfect. i'm not demanding anything in fact - i simply state that the original writing, where the, very supportive, progressive protagonist acted like a bigot was out of character. if indeed this was the intent by the developers; to let their loved character act like an asshole out of nowhere and then never address or call that out ever again, then that's their intention, but it'd be a very different story - and that's fine. it wasn't the intention though. if you want to take the developers at their word, this was a mistake, and they did switch up how they deliver their story. i simply state that i condemn that this mistake ever got let through, as i believe it does great harm to people's perception of marginalized groups. and when there are already as few positive representations as there are, it sucks to see one of allyship being marred by a mistake that could've been avoided. i care deeply about the issue, and i'm sorry my sincere intent wasn't able to be interpreted in that way.
@insoporous99782 жыл бұрын
@@timmm_ I gotcha. Don't mean to derail the thread, when the video is almost entirely not about this, it just stuck out more as it was the final note. I guess I just disagree. Seeing someone do something out of character draws attention to it, makes you ask why, highlights things. And I'm okay with seeing good characters exhibit flaws, even deep flaws, as it makes them so much more human. Lastly, I think the best inclusivity any group can have is to get raked through the coals and mistreated... just like every other group. I'm not joking, I know it sounds rather negative though. That one friend you don't make fun and give a hard time to is because they're the one you're not the closest friends with. I'm rough with my friends because they know I don't mean it, so it's all fun. I try to do the same with everyone, and to let them know I mean no harm even if it looks like I offend. It is the intent that matters. Well I'm rambling... I guess I just never saw it with the intent to harm or offend. And it's upsetting that others couldn't see it like I did. Take care. Thanks for the response. I'll shut up now. :)
