Korn’s debut, SOAD’s albums are fantastic, Deftones are their own genre, Limp Bizkit isn’t actually Nü metal, it’s lame rap core. Nü metal isn’t rapping over guitar work, sorry. That’s not Nü metal or else Korn wouldn’t be considered Nü. I don’t know why the difference between industrial metal, Nü metal and rap core are so hard for people to grasp. Primer 55 is not Nü metal, and they’re certainly in the same genre as alum Bizkit. How is Death Kill Logic, Coal Chamber, Mudvayne, or early Korn in any way rap? This is why I gatekeeping exists, because people don’t understand why subgenres exist. And apparently people understand this generalization is the reason Nü metal has gone out of style, because Limp Bizkit and Slipknot were considered a genre that they weren’t a part of. Slipknot’s first album has turntables and they have a synthesized or whatever, okay but they’re more hardcore than anything. This is like calling any metal with audible bass funk metal, just stop it, you’re being ridiculous

Hybrid theory is always #1 to me its the first album I ever had growing up. My brother's played it all the time and it's still my favorite album by Linkin Park (after which being meteora and minutes to midnight of course and all 3 are fantastic. ) That was an entertaining video and the worst to best albums of nu metal. Thanks to finn for sharing.

Kind of interesting also that their demo was made back in late 1994, around the time Korn had already released their debut album. If it wasn't for a series of issues back then (mainly Dez Fafara's wife disagreements about the band), they would have had done their debut album at least by 1995-96, and probably being remembered much more as part of the beginning of nü metal.

I'm not familiar with most of SOAD's discography, so can't comment on them, but the template of 'the big 4', which is used to discuss thrash metal, or grunge, I don't think really applies to nu-metal. For me, Limp Bizkit is the only band that retained the nu-metal formula for more than 2 or 3 albums before beginning to experiment, so it doesn't feel fair to rank albums by Korn or Linkin Park so low because they don't follow a nu-metal template. They may be terrible nu-metal albums, but are great albums nonetheless.

Oh no; not Take A Look In The Mirror! That was like my gateway into metal (I only really listened to punk mainly, along with a handful of classic metal bands, and then only really Sabbath, Maiden and Motörhead). That album (along with, gradually, all the ones before it) was pretty much my soundtrack for like the whole of 2004, which was a pretty tough one for me. I brought (well, downloaded) that and the Greatest Hits album that came out that year, and really got into them. Then I heard Slayer and the rest is history. But yeah, definitely fond memories of that album. I agree all the albums after that aren’t as good as the one before; there’s a definite drop in quality as regards songwriting after it in my opinion.

I just tweaked it to wever I was going through, ha. Now I gotta go reminisce. Plus, they got elements of surprise & throw u off. And their sounds r bipolar & idky "I like to f myself up" in those vibes but I do. other than it just seems challenging bc I was a dancer... thinking ish like is this my image? Ppl really must think I can pull off anything damn random & just ha, ha? ok then. Early 20s I was just also trying to embrace my feminity, haha ha. They'd prob be like welp, that took a turn. Late 20s- now, still same. But it's like no 1 truly understands my history... They're like the closest thing. But every now & then I'll be thinking about the not as intense... songs like have no idea y that came to the top of my head for no real reason. Well, kind of. SOAD are the only one of these 4 that I can listen to. I liked the first couple of Korn albums and saw them live a couple of times in those days, but soon bored of their sound. From my memory, Steal This Album! was supposed to be a "sequel" to Toxicity called Toxicity II. The songs on this record were essentially in demo sessions and recordings when it leaked to the masses. It kind of stunted the recording process, so they decided to clean up what they already had and push it out. It has a home in my heart as a good album but it is a very justified opinion to say it's bad.

Idk why, but I really really like Steal. It is... brighter than Toxicity? Idk, more lighthearted maybe. Has a handful of songs like Bubbles and Pictures, really upbeat and cheeky. But also intense emotional songs like Highway song and Streamline. And I just realized that it has the most harmonised vocals with Serj still being the undisputed lead singer. So, because I absolutely love harmonised vocals but think that Serj is still clearly the more gripping lead singer (Daron is still good, too, but Serj is more magnetic), so Steal has the best of both worlds there. Toxicity's highpoints are more towering, though, objectively speaking, I gotta admit. The whole album has a more serious tone, though, while Steal feels just fresher to me, like a cool breeze on a clear spring day

I think the reviewer was born after 1990 - I grew up on new metal, born in 86, so I was right there for Jnco's and all the horseshit. When Linkin Park dropped, I thought it was sellout bullshit. As I got older, my friends who were born after 90 or so swore that Linkin Park were the beginning of nu-metal and the jeans got tighter. I swear there's a difference of like 3-5 years that determine who you thought were the purveyors of the genre simply based on age.

@codingtranquility 7 ай бұрын
@@noahlenhard7010 to be fair I don't think Linkin Park really fits in either, except Hybrid Theory really was the blueprint for a lot of bands that followed in the genre. Same thing goes for Slipknot with their demo and first album. But I wouldn't go as far as comparing Linkin Park to hardcore hip-hop ... if we're speaking of at the time and not what it would later become like Run The Jewels, Linkin Park sounds nothing like Beastie Boys, DMX, or Onyx. Chester's clean singing brings it a lot closer to nu-metal which shared a lot of those choruses vs. Hardcore Hip-Hop that usually relied on spoken word choruses, sampled choruses, or features for choruses.

What I like about SOAD is everything *but* the zaniness. They are objectively fantastic musicians. The song structures, the rhythm section, production, mix, and gigaton weight of the riffs on songs like “prison song”, “toxicity”, or “BYOB” are undeniable. I don’t listen to them for their lyrics any more than I do limp bizkit. To me, they are another on of those bands of the late 90s-early 00s, along with limp bizkit, creed, and RHCP that to me qualify as “S tier band, f tier vocalist”. If you ignore the whacky vocals, there are some great melodies and song structures with absolutely hall of fame worthy instrumentals.
