This was a great game. Kind of lucky that 2 people lost their caps 2nd turn and you got your bonuses real easy with great fog RNG. Orange was overly confident here.

It's interesting how unvaluable bot kill guards are in this mode. In this scenario, the bot was gaining plus 5 per turn, and with 3 remaining players, the board was gaining 3 cards per turn. 3 cards per turn means that the sets increase by 5 troops per turn on average. The value of the bot kill is troops to take - troops gained. Obviously, although blue is growing at 5 troops per turn, troops to take is growing slower, bc you will inevitably have the attacker advantage, lets say each turn it costs 3 more troops to kill blue. That means that the value of the blue kill only increases by 2 troops per turn! You can take away its scotland with a guard stack, but still, it's like nothing. It's actually a higher troop gain to take england and scotland for the territory bonus! I think you used it quite well. Use the kill as a way to reinvigorate an attack by setting in turn.

Yes, but blue bot doesn't set all troops behind Pete... Blue bot sets in Europe and breaks bonuses and only sets some troops behind Pete, so the kill guard is worth more than in your calculations, but still nice way of thinking😊

It makes appears Pete less threathening than he is. So it decrease the chance an other player focus on breaking Pete. The troups from the bot kill are "stealth" troups.

At @3:39. I came to say the same thing. They reinforced their cap with five so they actually had 6. :) Most be one of those, 'when you are a good enough player, you'll know when you can break the Risk rules'.

What is the reason for taking a third capital rather than completing the noob corner on turn 3? Easier to defend 2 caps than 3. Seems like maybe you overvalue extra caps in the early game… or, perhaps I undervalue.

Probably because not taking the noob pocket keeps blue alive behind Pete's cap so there's a chance someone might feed him the kill, which happened. If than wasn't the case (if somehow Pete could know that no one will attempt the blue kill), I'm pretty sure taking the 2 bonuses and having 2 stronger caps would've been better but then people would've seen him hold more bonuses making it more likely to go for the blue kill haha! I really like your question and I hope someone else answers too!

Hey Pete, I would like to hear your opinion on what I call the "bully 'til bot" mentality. I noticed that on many other Risk KZbinrs' channels, they prioritize targeting players in order to get them to bot out and in doing so, make them easier opponents. I noticed this trend for the first time in Kylted's games (though I saw that others do it too) and it really didn't sit well with me. I feel like even though it's playing by the rules of the game, it goes against the board game etiquette and prioritizes winning over having a positive experience in the game. I appreciated that you weren't really the guy who does those kinds of things and even criticizes people when they bot out. However, in this video, things went a little differently. You stole Blue's capital, rhetorically asking how they will react. At face value, it seems like a fine play, since the roll had pretty good odds and you didn't want them getting too strong. But after seeing that they botted out, you claimed it was "fantastic", "so good", and "the best of all possible worlds". I was honestly pretty disappointed. It didn't feel like the Pete I'm used to and makes it seem like you rolled their capital in order to make them bot out. Anyway, after my long ramble, I would like to return to my original question: how do you feel about this technique that appears to bully newer players into quitting?

First off, the saying "don't hate the player, hate the game" comes to mind. If you're playing ranked, it's valid to play to win. That's why it's ranked after all. As long as the players don't ruin their own chances, that's fair playing. At the end of the day, it's a competitive game, do you want people to just sit around drinking tea? The main reason people hope they bot out is due to people just throwing their game away to destroy yours. Bots don't do that. If you could attack a player because it's a smart move, they'll take it personally most of the time. If you're talking about casual, that's fair. People take winning way too seriously outside of ranked in every game I've played, and it sucks. But the people you're talking about are all going to be playing ranked, and trying to improve their leaderboard position. There's always the option of only allowing people under a certain rank, if you wish.

I don’t necessarily think that this was a bully-til-bot scenario. Pete quickly recognized that blue likely over-extended themselves in snatching a second capital early on and saw an opportunity to seize an early advantage. Blue botted out immediately despite still owning their original capital (and Iceland). That’s just blue being a sore loser and a weak player.

I think players should play to win up to the point where they can't and then play for second. I never bot out of games I ready up for unless I have something else in my real life that needs attention. So in this case it was the best case scenario in the sense that I get away with ruining blues game unpunished. And I would always advocate that players never do that. So it's good in the sense that I won the game. Not good in the sense that it embodies a good principle.
