The design we used for the entrance of out secret undersea base about 8 years ago is a hopper minecart right under the seabed. You throw any item in a specific location on the sea floor and the hopper minecart is able to reach it through 1 block, passing it to a regular hopper which in turn activates a comparator. Very simple yet effective.

The concept of doing elaborately inefficient ways to hide secret rooms is near and dear to me. I’ve made and am currently making puzzle maps with the whole focus being finding these cool methods to hide rooms. My brain is exhausted trying to find concepts, yet your technical expertise and well designed presentation really got me excited and taught me stuff I did not know! I always assumed chains had the same box as rods. Very well done, it’s often the absurd unconventional techniques that are the most entertaining and wonderful.

This! I'm obsessed with hidden keys! The doors are more or less the same in all my bases, but the keys are all super unique. My most recent one you fire an arrow into the top corner of the room and it'll clip through and touch a wooden pressure plate. Then, to reset (cuz I use infinity arrows), it retracts the whole wall so the arrow falls into the floor, and then it all goes back. It's SUPER satisfying.

I have come up with a different way to align the minecarts vertically that only involves two minecarts. basically you have a single uphill powered rail and place a minecart on it. since minecarts don't move on unpowered rails you can put a minecart on it and nudge it slightly towards the upper block it takes a bit of trial and error but if you get it just right the minecart's hitbox will be about half way into the first pixel of the upper block and you can place a second minecart above the upper block but not above the rail (so it doesn't snap onto it) and on top of the first minecart. my setup for getting the correct upward nudge is to place another two powered rails on the lower side of the uphill powered rail with a minecart after placing the minecart on the upill rail i then bump into it twice while riding the lower minecart.

Have you ever made a secret door with a tripwire update detector? Tripwires update when a new tripwire is placed in front of them within ~45 blocks (can't remember the exact number) even when there's not a string connecting them, or there's one or multiple walls in between! This makes for some really cool designs, since it's wireless and the door key can be quite far from the door itself. I discovered this randomly when i was like 10 a decade or more ago and still love the concept as an adult

I wonder if with some potential refinements, particularly for durability (perhaps with even more alignment shenanigans allowing mid-side carts to be restrained enough while still pushing detector carts?) this could be used as a player sensor that is dependent on the direction of motion. I also wonder if it could be somehow done in a way that makes it silent, so it can trigger a far away mechanism that the triggerer wouldn't even notice without luck or foresight...

@@squibble111 I found a design with a boat, then 3 minecarts that I think works reliably? If you have the enchanting table setup, you can put the minecart on the corner of the boat and up against the top of a fence to prevent it from sliding backwards. Then if you have that bump into a minecart on a ender rod which is up against a trap door which bumps into a minecart on a path block, you can reliably reset it by pushing the 3rd minecart with a piston.

Just as a heads up, RaysWorks' spreadsheet is missing a lot of values. If you're interested in an alternative that also lets you filter the blocks with tens (hundreds*, depending on how you count) of properties, then I'd like to shamelessly plug the Minecraft Block Property Encyclopedia :) You are of course able to filter and sort by size, too, and the size units can be converted under settings. I love the ideas. They are very creative. Sadly, I am not sure if the boat push trigger is valid, since amethyst buds are unobtainable in survival, but maybe a the half side of a stair could work? Or a skull, those are even close? Finally, perhaps the far side of a grindstone stand? (though quite annoying to build, it is possible in survival, so it’s valid) Also the minecart floor trigger really bugs me because it can quite be small and isn’t fool proof, so I’m going to see what I can find for that. I was lacking inspiration, so thanks for the idea. I also agree that chains are a game changer. They are great for aligning entities in my doors (I build mainly observerless, so there tend to be a lot of entity shenanigans XD). They also work great for aligning armorstands for detecting a falling edge of a pisten with a solid block underneath it. It by far the nicest block to do that with (if I remember correctly, I have only found a grindstond as an alternative, but grindstones are immovable and the armorstand has to be inside it making it a nightmare to build. Tldr, Great video. Love the chains too. And thanks for the inspiration.

amethyst buds are obtainable, you only need silk touch. Also there are other options, only the amethyst is the most convenient. @@squibble111 thank you. Amethyst crystals are obtainable with silk touch. Amethyst buds aren't. At least that is the case for 1.19.2, and according to the wiki. I know the trigger was never meant to be practical, but nor are my piston doors with dozens entities and circuits where it takes 10 min to align the entities in creative mode. It is the fun of designing the builds that matter and the tricks we learn along the way.

@@squibble111 I found an alignment that I think works perfectly. It's two minecarts on top of a minecart with a medium slime on top of a bed. Slimes only make sounds when they jump, and the slime can't jump because it's in a minecart, so it's still silent. I'm playing with this idea now. Also going to check out if I can make it more rigorous and not have it break.

@@DunlinDolphinmaybe you're thinking about budding amethyst which is the block that amethyst grows from. @@madhavraghu Those are called amethyst crystals. I'm not talking about those. I am talking about the buds. Though you are right. They are obtainable. I probably just misread the wiki. snow layers? Snow layers are interesting, I think each layer is 2 pixels, and the height of the snow (the hitbox height) is always 2 pixels below the visual height. So one layer, 2 pixels of snow, is actually 0 pixels high. 3 layers, 6 pixels, has a hitbox of 4 pixels high. Except for 8 layers, because that solidifies into a full snow block taking all 16 pixels, not 14.
