I live in Arizona and flew out to Cedar Point for TT2 just to see the signs that say it is closed. I then had a trip planned to visit for Hyperia just to land in London Heathrow and check KZbin and see a video about Hyperia being closed, and I thought I was actually going to cry. 😭

To be fair, as Universal goes, they tend to learn from their mistakes. Grand opening of Universal Studios Florida was an absolute mess, but Island of Adventure went incredibly smooth. Hagrid's grand opening was a mess and everything they did wrong with that they fixed when opening Velocicoaster. I'm sure the grand opening for Epic Universe will be flawless.

Booking a trip to ride a coaster on opening year is like buying a console at launch date. It's always been risky, even though this year's closures are more notable and frustrating. I usually wait a year.

Even if the ride works fine the lines are gonna be brutal. I want to ride TT2 as much as anyone, I booked for Aug... so I still have a chance. I just hope it doesn't open the week before I get there and its slammed.

The more complex these coasters become the more room for error. I have no problem for coasters opening day to be pushed back for safety concerns, but to have these extremely complex rides be rushed to the public, open for a week, and then close is just ridiculous. I also love when a problem is found on the ride so they shut it down for a day or two, and after a week of it reopening it proceeds to have the same issue or a brand new one in an endless cycle all season long. Either deadlines are crazy, or the engineers are struggling to keep up with the evolving complexity.

I honestly think people need to calm down when discussing these ride closures. This is especially true with Top Thrill 2 because of all of its new technology, something was bound to go wrong. Also, Cedar Point has many other great coasters including Steel Vengeance, Maverick, Millennium Force, and more. So considering all of that, there's no reason to get super mad about one ride closing and rescheduling a trip around one ride.

This is more than just working kinks out. This is a major design flaw. And honestly, who didn't see this one coming? Cedar Point did this to themselves and went the cheap route and they got exact what they paid for.

Not being 100% ready on opening day has been extremely common in the theme park industry as far back as Disneyland's opening day. It's not even exclusive to theme parks either. Anything that's conceptually new usually isn't perfect on its first day. Every industry does this, it's just not usually visible because it's not a giant machine meant to move people around standing in the open. It's retraining, rewriting, redesigning, fixing, breaking and erasing, all behind usually closed doors. I'm just saying, as the rides get more and more complex (like TT2 and Hagrid's (They're some of the most complex rollercoasters in the world)) the more likely they are to completely break at any moment.

A top-notch German park releases one or two commercials with the phrase "opening in ..." and remains completely silent until the actual opening. Without any fanfare, it opens! It works perfectly fine.

Ideally yes, but things are going to pop up when they go to full capacity. Keep in mind that when a new ride does open, there's usually a long line of people that want to ride, and they aren't typically soft launched. It's probably the hardest that a rollercoaster will ever be worked while still breaking in.

for hyperia apparently it was the lift chain guider thing wearing out too quickly at the apex of the lift hill this caused a error which kept the ride closed but the computer didn't say what which is why they sent people up to check what issue it was which i think they found and closed the ride contacted mack and so mack used a different and experimental material to replace that part causing the extended down time

Very entertaining and fun to watch. I remember this happening with Twisted Timbers in its first 2 months of operation. I was able to ride but only about 50% of the time due to it being closed because of various problems. Thanks for posting this.

We live in a society nowadays where products aren’t built to be tough and or to last. Call me full of Crap when I apply this to Roller Coasters cause ride’s nowadays have so many complex parts. When one thing goes wrong even if it’s small. Ride shutdown. Solution? Roller Coasters just need to be designed simpler. Not necessarily in construction but by design to be able to sustain itself long term.

Universal did what they did with Hagrids not because they were lazy, but rather to tweak it to handle the crowds. It was ready on release. You can't fix a problem that you can't see. That's why Universal did what they did with Hagrids

Anybody else remember when they would actually be done and have 1/2 the kinks worked out b4 the season even began, like a whole 20million dollar hyper coaster or something of that scale basically good/ready2go? Now they get down sometime in summer with 1/4 the amount of track generally easier to assemble and usually it's August-September.

There should be soft openings to trial the roller coasters and also the operations of the queue flow. I was blessed to have been at Islands two weeks before the opening of the Velocicoaster and got to ride it. The longer the trial runs, the more they can work out the kinks.
