I got my mount yesterday- it’s new and improved. Works just fine. Deep pocket and two set screws. I have it mounted to the old 2” DirecTV mounting pole on my roof. Extremely solid.

The starlink website is listing a new version of this now with a deeper mount and 2 set screws
@Sui7783 ай бұрын
The problem is the second screw is not on the opposite side - that's still not going to secure it adequately. It's just squeezing a pipe with screws pushing in on one side; same as the original just that there are two screws instead of one. It will still have the same problem as the original design, it just won't fall off as quickly. Still a hard pass for me.
@jeremiahjohnson52053 ай бұрын
@@Sui778 I believe if I were using this style of mount, I would use a type of pipe that isn't going to collapse, something like schedule 80 steel pipe which is very strong 'industrial' grade thickness, rather than galvanized or weaker metals.
@pareklundАй бұрын
@@jeremiahjohnson5205 But isn't the point here to use your existing pipe, not buy a new one? So it will have to work with most pipes
@NFLAWaterBoy8 ай бұрын
Thanks for posting this! My Gen3 equipment is due to arrive later this week, and my tentative plan was to buy this mount (once I settle on installation location). The third-party adapter you show does indeed look less bad than Starlink's (due to the depth of the receiver), but the circular shape is a fundamental flaw when the pipe is a smaller diameter than the receiver. They should instead be using a triangle, with a pair of set screws centered on one side. The set screws would press the pipe against the centers of the other two sides, providing far more support and eliminating the side-to-side wobble you showed on the roof.

Came to the same conclusion you did when I first open the box upon receipt a few months ago. But you didn’t address the most interesting question: how did a company comprised literally of rocket scientists (who were able to figure out how to land a rocket booster upright on a floating barge in the ocean) design such an obviously flawed simple product as a bad pipe mount? I’m assuming that Elon didn’t work on this…. But who did? Even a summer intern would have been able to do a better job!

I purchased a stainless steel mount from Amazon with SIX set screws total in two rows and a deep socket for the pole. I can’t yank it loose but I think I want to add a self tapping screw that will penetrate the mast. Our building codes assume 100 mph winds. A loose connection to the mast will turn the Starlink antenna into a wing in a high wind.
@robgronsky44667 ай бұрын
Actually this is the best accessory. It's steel and won't flex in the wind at heights 25' in the air. To secure it drill a small hole with a titanium drill bit and feed an eye bolt through, then add a second eye bolt through the pole as a cross bolt before tightening up with nylon lock nuts. Couldn't be more secure and cheaper then just about every other option with the added benefit of height. Holds up in storms no problem, might want to lower the telescoping pole 5 - 10' but personal preference, likely not an issue unless a tornado is headed your way. I even fly old glory and take it camping.

What I’m actually looking for is a Gen 3 to Gen 2 pipe adapter. We like our Gen 2 mount but of course the Gen 2 pipe attached to the dish securely snaps into the mount and I’d like to keep the mount but use it with a Gen 3 dish.

Most shops seem to be selling the second version which is virtually the same as the first one. Did Starlink give new antennas to those who lost theirs?
@StarlinkHardwareАй бұрын
The new version does fix the main issues. It has a deeper tube to accept more pipe, and now uses two set screws instead of one. I haven't gotten around to a follow up review, but reading online reviews, it seems to be a decent option now. Still plenty of 3rd party pipe adapters if you don't trust it. I haven't spoken to anyone who lost their dish due to the design. But since it was a recalled device, any dish damaged by the original pipe adapter should be replaced free of charge.

First off people need not assume rocket scientists design these mounts, this is laughable. Second of all, just looking at it, a hole through the pipe on one side , slide the set screw and tighten it on the wall inside the pipe. If set screw is too short, buy a longer one. Yes yes we can all say why wouldn’t they get it right in the first place? But how many 35$ items are perfect ? None

You should be able to rig up a pipe adapter to go from what looks like the 1.5" pipe to the 2.5" recessed hole in the mount. I'm sure you could find something in the plumbing department that could be used. A schedule 80 bushing adapter runs about $10 and might work.
