Nice to see this covered on a big channel. I liked the concept of a character using virtua fighter characters as his/her *insert pokedigiwhatever* It's something of fun game but very cringe in design. If anything this should have taken advantage of other IPs too to at least try to be the Kingdom Hearts of Sega lol. Also this was on the ps2 as well. Fun fact in japan its called Virtua Fighter: Cyber Generation and hints at the organization that held the vf tourneys won and captured the fighters. Kind of a dark concept for a kiddie game.

I love how the protagonist is clearly portrayed as a 10-11 ish years old kid, yet he sounds like a 20 years old high-school dropout. While Resident Evil's original voice cast proudly stepped into the "so bad it's good" territory, this game never left the 'so bland it's shite" camp.

I loved this game when I was a kid! I never finished it because it lacked any of the clarity of an actual good game, so I pretty much got stuck and gave up. And because no one else played it, I couldn't find any guides online. Good times.

I remembered playing and eventually beating Virtua Quest a very long time ago. Yes, you'll learn multiple moves from the same fighters. If I remember correctly, there'll be obstacles that require higher ranked moves than what you learn early on, and you'll have to come back to those stages later.

It had a very limited release, I played the demo of it a bunch of times but only saw it once in stores, it was in a local electronics store and there was 1 copy. Never once saw it at Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Target, anything. Found a used copy on gamestop some years ago fortunately.

I'm getting serious flashbacks to this baffling Marvel Comics anime I saw on TV when I was in Taiwan last year. Wikipedia tells me it is called "Marvel Disk Wars." And it was THIS. Generic anime children summoning Black Panther and the Hulk to fight generic anime villains using some sort of wrist-mounted data chip thingy. Iron Man was the robot sidekick (!?). It was in Mandarin so I couldn't tell what was going on, but I have to assume those guys usually have more important things to do than drop everything to be summoned like Pokemon to help these anime kids with their anime problems. Oh, and it's also a video game, in case it wasn't obvious from the premise. Maybe a subject for a future episode?

So, when I played this as a kid, I didn't know what Virtua Fighter was, had no idea this was a spinoff of something. I liked this as a stupid child and to this day have never played a Virtua Fighter game, making this defacto my favourite Viruta Fighter game. So Im that guy.

This feels more like the Virtua Fighter anime of the 90s mixed with the plotline of the games, but EXTRA SHONEN! as if some henchman backed up all the analysis data of the fighters on to the dark net, which survived into the future as Memories AI that can choose their users.

Honestly, while Digimon Cyber Sleuth is excellent, this game isn't *bad,* just on the decent side of average. But yeah, there are some thematic similarities, though Arguably it's plot is the exact reverse of DCS, once you find out about the Dural program.

I absolutely don't know why this game was 99% of my childhood pre-age 10. I was more obsessed with this than fucking Paper Mario and Sunshine. I have nothing but regret. ...Although, holy shit those combos were fire for 6 year old me. Also as someone who played a significant amount of this, the Virtua Souls get significantly harder as you progress.

This game has a shite ton of other Sega influences in it, Matt. When the other kid talks about Hunter's Licenses, that's a Phantasy Star Online reference. When he logs into the Nexus thing is pretty much PSO, the aesthetic, the UI, the characters are all PSO. This is Virtua Fighter/PSO. lol

@@MattMcMuscles Then I would suggest you try PSO Episode 3 for the GCN. PSO was an online action RPG and they made Episode 3 a card battle game. I didn't think it was good.

I actually beat this game somewhere around my early teens. Had to put it down a few times cause the last few areas are CRAWLING with mob ambushes! The player is left with limited options against group fights. Especially when every tap stuns your character! The amount of times I got combo to death... In the very last area of the game, I beat EVERYTHING with two simple strategies... Kiting + hit-n-run. Literally drawing multiple circles, waiting for my so to refill, unleash powerful mob clearing or boss damaging moves, and them repeating till dead. Even the final boss was no match against these strategies! Using regular combos? Too slow! Man, the feeling of relief and accomplishment after beating the game and seeing the end credits... I can recognize it being a rather poorly made game, but it's definitely my childhood guilty pleasure. Also, I love that wire. SO! MUCH! P.S. This is my first Virtua game.

I played one on my ps2 and i kinda like it . The only problem i had is the button response was somehat lagging. Maybe if Sega had developed this game with ps4 the button response would be better. I played virtua fighter within Yakuza game and the button response is pretty solid unlike here of course.

This game is fucking weird but I liked. If only platforming controls weren't stiff as dicks. Camera control is by far my biggest issue. Not to mention it was kind of a missed opportunity to have God Hand-esque combat all the way. Damn near everything that can attack used VF animations so why not make custom combo strings out of them.
