I remember my CAE exam. I was extremely stressed, my hands were shaking and I couldn't calm down. I totally lost the sense of timing and I realised I need to transfer my answers on my answer sheet. But the hilarious thing is I forgot that I hadn't done multiple choice task and needed to guess which word is correct to complete the text without reading it. It turned out I have a really good gut feeling because I passed my CAE with excellent score! Thanks to you Ben, your amazing videos I was able to reach my dreams and goals. Thank you so much!!

In a way, running out of time can derive from lack of confidence hence hesitations and lack of proper preparation.

Hi ben! I took the C2 proficiency examination in March and my results came yesterday. I passed it with grade C and 202 overall score. But my worst part was reading, in which i got 190 and that was because I ran out of time and I did not complete half of part 6 and rushed in part 7. Although I am very happy about my performance, I would like to advice future candidates to time themselves in their practices in order complete the entire reading and use of english paper in 1h 30m And of course, thank you Ben for your videos that have signified fundamental help in my preparation!🙂 Cheers!

It depends on what „performance type“ one is. I personally feel much more confident pushing through the ue part in a fast pace and then dedicating all the time I have left to the reading part. But if I had to skip the ue part and start with the reading, I would run a much higher risk of experiencing ego depletion when encountering any hurdles in the reading part because of the skipped tasks lurking in the back of my head.

Timing is key! in the C1 Adv. Reading and UoE, I started by solving parts 5, 6, 7, 8 and then 1, 2, 3, 4. I managed to finish just in time!

Yes, it makes sense to start with the reading parts. For the Use of English parts, I recommend doing them in the order 4, 3, 2, 1 to finish with the multiple choice task.

I am never going to take the CAE. I took the IELTS. I am C2 beyond normal native English speakers. But I do make spelling mistakes. But I do that in all the languages that I can speak and write. I do that with Chinese, Danish, Japane, Korean and of course English. At least when I don't have auto correct software to help me. Not because of my level, but because I don't check for errors. And my ADHD makes it really hard to spot my mistakes becuase I do not want to read what I just wrote, I know what it says, so I just skim over everything.....

The GOOD way that made me fail my exam is when I used all the cockney rhyme slang that I learnt from Gideon and your dad. I though I was impressing examiner ! Little did you know I shot myself on my big toe ! Ouch!!
