For this business model you should really take a good look at the monster truck industry. I think this kind of show would be in the same vein. Maybe even a partnership to do events at monster truck shows.

Chris O'Brien I think they’ve been trying to avoid that since inception, but the economics just make more sense. It would be harder for them to move the giant robot from city to city, but as a plus, watching cars get torn in half is vastly superior to watching them get crushed. Particularly intricate stuff like the engine block.

This is exactly the type of difficult business decision you guys need to make right now and you guys seem to be handling it well. Megabots was made by Engineers, but the make the business profitable there has to be a show aspect, and thats exactly what this test event does!

From what I've learned from this, I now think that the way to make robot fights entertaining is to 1. Not have people in them, so safety doesn't limit them. 2. Focus on speed over strength, also make it smaller if it helps. 3. Have a solid frame but put fiberglass panels on them so there is some actual destruction, Without being to expensive to replace. 4. Somehow make them drive sideways not just forwards and backwards, meybe mecanum wheels could work. 5. Not sure about this but it seems like compressed air or electric motors are a lot faster than hydraulics. Also seams more robust. I think these things would make it more fun to watch them destroy and be destroyed by other robots. Which I think is what people want to see.

If you’re going to allow guests to pilot Eagle Prime I recommend a remote override that freezes the upper chassis and slowly brings him to a stop. Just for safety sake.

I think mechanically speaking, the decision to run tracks while objectively better for weight distribution/not passing through a goddamn pavement comes at the cost of serious harm to mobility. I was speaking about your work with another engineer friend a while back and the conclusion we came to was that the robots need to mess each-other up more. You need to look at wrestling psychology and the perception of struggle more. The final conclusion he came to was that for performance arts it might be better to have a super tough robot as a naked frame, then cover it in softer materials to convey damage that's purely cosmetic, perhaps going as far as to have arms come off and stuff like that (which let's be honest, would be catastrophic because of their construction and fragile components). Its all a question of perceived effect vs mobility and the problem with mobility is that the cubed law means metal is exponentially heavier so the strength of a machine has to literally be super human at scale to actually move at all, let alone gracefully. Given that Sudobashi was originally designed as a moving sculpture, have you guys considered lighter materials or construction? The only other option I think you have is displacement which is exponentially problematic. I wonder what kind of forces EP's rated at mechanically to exert and what is her BHP/torque like? An all electric engine might have the torque and response-rate you need while being less mechanically complex which should reduce maintenance costs significantly and improve the hydraulics response times while having a far more predictable set of thermal characteristics. Eva did cables so I figure its not sacrilege or anything. I'm not stateside but damn I'd love to go watch Eagle Prime defile the crap out of something. Rock on.

Pay to get a chance to drive a giant robot? Hell yes. Maybe you should set up courses for people to run the robot through. They pay to pilot the bot and you track how quickly they complete the course! Winner gets bragging rights.

Idea: Have three classes of tickets. One, a very cheap one (or as cheap as is feasible anyway), which only allows you to watch the destruction, maybe take a pic or something with it. Two, at a very small increase (a few bucks - enough to be a tempting upgrade) which gives you a chance of driving it - this would be done via a lottery-like system, with one or two winners each event, and three, a guaranteed drive - these would be limited and more expensive. Probably not too many of these each time. Might be worth a try anyway. Would get people invested into things.

Look into having both robots being active during the performance. It's not a linear relationship regarding giant robots ans destroying stuff its exponential. Add a second one in to either assist or tag team objects makes it waaaaay more exotic

I know this is a thousand times easier said than done, but having a rival robot with which to compete with would make a gigantic difference, even if it's just a car destruction and other skills contest rather than direct combat. Maybe dress up Iron Glory like something else and have Guy turn heel and pretend he came back with a new robot to destroy Megabots. Then all us nerds could sit here and argue way too seriously about the tactical advantages of each design while you laugh at us. You need a convenient and inexpensive Suidobashi replacement. It's not a sport until we have a team to cheer against.

In order to help make this cost effective they should make the robots so that limbs and parts can pop off if the robot is hit in certain places like the old red and blue hand controlled robot figuring game. This would allow the robots to fight like we all want and be "damaged" but while they would look like they need repairs after, the repairs would be minimal and hopefully be more cosmetic.

Looked great! Maybe you can find a way to create a network of hobbyist roboticists/scifi vehicle builders who have similar ambitions and start a KZbin exhibition series. It could be good networking while proving that there is sufficient interest in developing a "battle machine" league. Since Eagle Prime and the Mark II are more of mech/tank hybrids rather than full battlemechs, it might be easier to build a grassroots league of science fiction combat vehicle enthusiasts rather than a battlemech league. It could also make for a more steady stream of social media publicity and keep fans more rigidly engaged in staying up to date. Coming up with some classic "gamemode" ideas such as Capture the Flag, Control Zone, Destroy the Enemy Base, etc. could also garner more interest as opposed to marketing "deathmatch" style fights which could be anticlimatic like the first fight with the Mark II vs. Kuratas, or slow and clunky like the other fights. Pilot safety could also be less of a central focus if the intent of the gamemode isn't to destroy the enemy machine, but to complete an objective faster (while possibly skirmishing some). This could spark more competitor interest since teams interested in building their own competition machines could rest easier, knowing they won't necessarily have to have major financial backing in order to stay in the league because there is reduced likelihood of their mech getting demolished. It should also open up more design avenues by taking the whole focus off of robot combat and making that just a major facet (example: we might get to see Eagle Prime open up full throttle and do some maneuvers around tight corners, or make a hack-slash with the chainsaw or sword as it passes by a destructable objective in a timed battle for points). Just some ideas. Also, revoicing Andrew Brown's reply to TheEthanMaverick's comment, but a Megabots/Colin Furze team up would be sick!
