People talk about Jimmy Page being in The Yardbirds as if the only thing that matters is what he did in Led Zeppelin afterwards. This totally ignores how great The Yardbirds were in their own right. Keith Relf's harmonica and vocals helped produce a string of iconic recordings. Along with Chris Dreja on bass, and Jim McCarty on drums, the early Zeppelin pieces were already in Page's repertoire. It is so obvious where Zeppelin got their improvisational directive on stage. That is pure Yardbirds. This concert really highlights how creative the whole band was. They were screamin'! Even though their illustrious personnel changed over an incredibly intense and short five years as a group, their influence keeps going on and on. These bootleg recordings are like musical archeology. So many new treasures are uncovered in hearing them. And they were heavy. The Yardbirds were named the most influential group in rock history. It's not surprising when you look at all the musical streams that flowed out of that one seminal group.

I always knew there was other Page\Yardbirds recordings out there besides the Anderson Theater and a Stockholm recording. This is a gem of a recording and has been added to my Yardbirds playlist on my 1blastman KZbin site - check out other Yardbirds cuts if you can. The band had a strong influence on me and I've managed to get a lot of rare recordings by all the Yardbirds guitarists including Top Topham [Rock in Peace]. Thanks for posting this, I am looking forward to hearing the Fillmore show.

I see that their performances in the US had more freedom of experimentation, unlike in Europe where the band seems very restrained Just as Cream at the Fillmore experienced more of this freedom to try new things, something the American people loved and encouraged.

@@FernandoJohnny I think they got away from Mickie Most who produced "Little Games" and were free to create. Most only cared about Top 40 singles. White Summer is the only song in this concert from Little Games - shows you how much they hated that album. They weren't even allowed to hear playbacks and the album has a demo quality which was unnecessary. Playing in America really was a release for the band.

@@1blastman hey did you ever hear The Yardbirds before Clapton got in the band. They did a couple of songs with Top Topham on guitar. They usually pop up on British anthology albums .

@@chriskroll4166 No, but I heard about Top's playing from a friend of mine who visited his relatives in England during the "Summer of Top". He raved about how well the band jammed - like it was "rockin' blues ass jazz". Then when For Your Love came out it was Clapton, and we dug back into the Sonny Boy set and Five Live. But I've heard Top play [Rock In Peace], on other records but not with the Yardbirds. It's on my bucket list. If you know of the anthology albums, post back, I'd love to catch up with them.

@@1blastman years ago they let out some albums called the anthology of British Blues volumes 1 through 4. They might be on there . There's only like two tracks and then he was out of the band and Clapton was in.
