I never understood why they kept making HMH earlier and earlier. HMH should be up when all the other Christmas decor go up: after Thanksgiving or just a few days before Thanksgiving. The Haunted Mansion itself is a classic masterpiece of a ride and should be honored as such.

Considering the popularity of the Haunted Mansion, and the NBC overlay, the Disney folks should create a standalone NBC attraction, in California Adventure. This way, both the Haunted Mansion, and NBC can coexist, for the full year, without any interruptions. With the Oogie Boogie Bash already there, it would be a perfect fit, and a great draw, for California Adventure.

OG Haunted Mansion supremacy 😤 I agree Disneyland’s mansion is better. Going to CA the first time ever after going to WDW my whole life, I felt Disneyland’s mansion was better. (That also goes for pirates!) Not just the story line being better played out, but the fact that they’re the OGs and Walt worked on them, there’s just something so special about them.

Been to Florida 4 times, never California. I think I’d have a hard time choose one. The OG vs. Walt’s big dream he never got to see? That’s kinda rough. (He did have a huge hand in the Orlando Park, he just never saw the final product )🤷🏻‍♀️ I’d like to go to Disneyland . Also, for all the money I’d be spending to get there from Pittsburgh PA, I feel like there’s just more to do in WDW, maybe? I was planning my first DL trip in years for Summer 2024 and sure enough this happened. I was planning two days at the park but between not having Splash Mountain (or its successor) and not having Haunted Mansion I feel like only one day is necessary. Those are my two favorite Disneyland rides and i think I'd actually get more frustrated the longer I'm at the park with both of these rides closed.

When I was younger, I never knew there was a story for The Haunted Mansion. But I The Haunted Mansion to me (As a Kid) thought it was a common haunted house ride. But when Disneyland add the layover, I enjoyed WAY more because I understood the story for Nightmare Before Christmas. But I enjoy the original even MORE now because of you. Even got to watch a couple episodes with my Grandma about old Disneyland and she liked them.

I went to the park with my friend who was in a wheel chair and I’m so glad we’re getting a new wheel chair accessible entrance because we were passed back and forth between cast members on where to go. Could have just been bad communication but still. I would also argue they should integrate the pass system they have in Paris. They have two types of “Priority passes” that go on a lil lanyard for disabled guests and their families that are FREE. They’re color coordinated so you just show it to a cast member without having to explain what accommodations you need which can be embarrassing and allow for error. They basically just allow you to get on a ride right away and have designated zones for parades and shows. It was great and helped my friend be able to enjoy the park and not feel guilty about “skipping” in front of people or have to stop as frequently. Still wish the wheel chairs were more comfortable and had a proper storage pocket on the back of the chair but ya win some ya loose some.

They do have the disability access pass on the app. But I think the lanyard idea would be GREAT. I don't use it for a physical disability. I have autism and long lines overwhelm me. So the lanyard would be great at times when the app has an issue (I was there once when like a system-wide error happened it was a nightmare) because for people who need it for mental or invisible disabilities (and people who can be non-verbal) you don't have to convince someone you have it like I had to do once. Also helpful for people who struggle with technology. Accomodation should'nt be a hassle.

I always assumed that one of the reasons they started the overlay at the end of August was because they want to get their money's worth out of making all of the changes and additions to the mansion for the overlay. So one idea I thought of as a compromise between letting people have the classic haunted mansion and having the holiday overlay is this: maybe during the leadup to the Christmas season, they could slowly start adding Nightmare Before Christmas decorations that are more spooky themed rather than Christmas themed (as well as don't get in the way of the OG Haunted Mansion theming). Then the day after Halloween, they close the ride and finish adding everything else (Jack, the snow, the more blatant Christmas decorations, etc) and then run Holiday through to the end of January. Heck, they could probably add the snow to the original mansion around Halloween and it wouldn't be that out of place (at least where I live, its not uncommon for snow to have fallen by that point). I don't know if anything I just said is actually feasible, but it was just a thought.

I'm a Disney fanatic specially when it comes to the Haunted Mansion BUT when I went to Disneyland back in 2002 I was really wanting to do the HM ride. My sister and I got there during the holidays and I didn't know ahead of time that they change it to Nightmare Before Christmas during the holidays. So when we got there to ride it my heart sank to find it out when we got there. Nothing against Nightmare Before Christmas since I love the movie BUT I had tears in my eyes since I was so looking forward to riding the original ride since it had been years since I rode it last and didn't know when I would ride it again only to find out that I won't be able to see the original version of it. I've yet to go back to Disneyland for multiple reasons (like moving to the other side of the states). Here it is over 20 years later and I'm still not sure when or if I'll go back to Disneyland but IF I do I know I'll only go in the summer time when the original Haunted Mansion is there and not Jack.

I'm also sad Mansion Classic won't be active for so long, but operationally I can understand the rock-n-hard-place situation. Going by previous years, it takes two weeks to do a switch. To go to classic then back to holiday is 4 weeks total in a year. On the assumption of a late August reopening, that's 7 months to complete the project: Construction for the new park, the ret-con of the external queue, the ret-con of internal queue, the new store, the occupancy and elevator clearances, new training of cast members once occupancy clears, and a host of other things I'm not thinking of. Seven months end-to-end is possible for the project, less than that would be… ambitious… to plan on. Even if the 2-week switch to classic happened during construction, you have the 2 week switch during the Halloween and Winter seasons. That's why I can appreciate the situation operationally and understand the situation. If this means I can bring my loved ones to the Mansion without swimming upstream of a river of guests and trying to navigate the tight corners to enter and leave… I'll take the sacrifice of not having classic this year. Everyone deserves to ride with dignity.

My husband went to Disneyland one summer as a kid so he's interested in California's holiday version too. In any capacity, I hope Haunted Mansion is open when we go to see the Disneyland version.

I could be wrong but since HMH normally ends in early January and reopens in September and since HM is closed until about September due to the additions being added to the front queue keeping the ride closed, its probably the case that they don't wanna put all the HMH stuff away while the ride is shut down if they don't have to. So basically, this could just be a one year thing where HMH stays open late into January because the conditions making it stay longer are due to the ride generally being shut down until its reopening anyways. My point: I hope it is a one year thing

Don't get me wrong, I love HMH but it should stay within the September end of December/beginning of January. I am excited for all these updates! It deserves all the love and everything!! It's gonna be awesome!! I'll miss the ride while it's closed but it's getting all the TLC. I'll definitely be there when it opens! My birthday is August 31st and I usually go to celebrate so it'll be interesting to see for sure. If I need my HM fill I'll stick to KZbin ride videos. New Orleans Square shall be missed in the meantime if Pirates isn't insane!

I hear WDW locals say they want a NBC overlay and complain every year they don't have it. Meanwhile at DL they're complaining it's going for too long and they want regular HM. I love NBC overlay but I agree it's for too long. Should open 1 week before Halloween 🎃 and close NYE. That's at least 10 weeks compared to the 5 MONTHS it has now. Disney should also bring back Mickeys Boo party on the Castle side since OOGIE BOOGIE sells out. Let the people with the kids in strollers be on the Castle side in DL and the people with older children and Adults go to OBB in DCA. Just my little rant.

My kids have never been on classic Haunted Mansion 😔. I won't even go if it's closed. Leave it alone, it doesn't been to be remodeled, it's a classic. Just because your bored of the queue, doesn't mean it should be closed for a year. Ok, it could use an exit elevator, but that's it.😢

I think if anything the compromise should be that if they HAVE to keep it up for halloween to dial back on the nightmare before Christmas aspect inside the mansion itself, all the exterior would even "need" would be the Pumpkins the Scarecrow and the Clock that theyre already gonna lay out for Christmas. Maybe even put Soarky's grave back just to add some more Hallowen specific stuff. As long as we get to ride the classic mansion on Halloween again the exterior can look however they want. Id even go as far as maybe replacing the spot where Jack's sleigh is with an audio animatronic of Jack himself during the Disneyland Halloween season to kinda foreshadow him getting ready for haunted mansion holidays after Halloween just to keep as little of it inside the mansion as possible. If it appeases Disney's need to keep its hype going for 6 months of the year. As long as it means the inside is still the regular mansion from January 1st - October 31st Id even be willing to maybe keep Jack Zero and Sally in the Grave Yard scene somewhere since Sally doesn't Replace anyone and Jack is seemingly interchangeable with the Groundskeeper and could be placed next to sally instead to guve a quick "Happy Halloween" at the tail end if the ride while the CLASSIC mansion is happening around it... Just... No mote Christmas. Its just as bad as when you hear Christmas music in October

If Haunted Mansion is going down for that long, I think Disney is deciding "Well, if things open on time, it's only going to be normal for 2 months and then we gotta take it down for 2 weeks to install the overlay again, so why bother changing it back this time around?" I do agree with you, it would be nice to have it "regular" for a bit as I do enjoy both versions. Since "Nightmare Before Christmas" is technically after October 31, they should probably take it down around November 2 to install the overlay, but I don't think they want it down then as they'll want it open for the Christmas parade recording.

i understand the nightmare before christmas burnout. i just went to disney world over christmas and, in hopes to get something cool from the tower of terror gift shop, i was instead met with only 1 wall of ACTUAL tower of terror stuff. the ENTIRE rest of the gift shop was nightmare before christmas. mind you this gift shop is literally IN the tower of terror, not close to it, not down the street from it, INSIDE the tower and it doesn’t have more than one wall of tower of terror merch.

Yes, I do agree factually that the holiday overlay should be shorter, but I am very biased towards Nightmare Before Christmas, so I would never complain about the holiday overlay existing

I completely agree with you . I for one am tired for HM Holiday. I bored of Jack Skellton and I don’t want to see him before November. While I agree with the switchback and store upgrade ,I’d also like a little something more inside .This is a big enough deal to me that I will be skipping Disney for that year until both the construction and Holiday are over . I don’t want to see a Christmas themed attraction during the Fall and especially Halloween. They need to respect the original Mansion .

I’d really like to see the library or stairs addition that Dworld has . And what I’d really like is a space that did HM themed cocktails and small plates like they’re trying on the cruise ship. Just no more Christmas til it’s time .

I really feel like Nightmare Before CHRISTMAS needs to start after November 1 and end after January 31 (which I feel is generous). If there's one ride in Disneyland that I want to ride in October, but ESPECIALLY on Halloween, it's Haunted Mansion. I would support a Nightmare Before Christmas ride on its own. A year is a VERY long time. I guess planning for 2025 gives us a little more time to save up...which seems completely necessary given the prices and the rate at which they've been increasing.

I’m a huge HM fan, and I’ve (so far) never gotten the opportunity to visit a Disney park. Seeing the original attraction in Disneyland is my number one goal. If I ever do get a chance to visit, such a trip may very well end up being a once in a lifetime thing for me. Therefore, all this holiday overlay stuff really bothers me.

last year HMH stayed late into January bc Indy was down for a refurb. This year it is staying late into January bc of its own refurb. I think 2024 and beyond it is reasonable to expect HMH to close when the holiday season ends in early January again. Maybe not 2024… since this weird scheduling could spill over until the end of next year, which is crazy to say.

I'm sad too. I was thinking of going to DL in 24, but with this and pirates I'm not so sure. I think they could actually keep the haunted mansion open but they can't manage two queues. Maybe they would need to close down a week here and there to move walls and lines but I think they could do l.. They don't want to keep it open unless they provide lightning lane. Just sad.

Are they going to take the overlay down during the que construction? If they don't take it down, I bet it stays the overlay in August give or take the gingerbread house.
