I LOVED this. I have had really tight upper hamstrings for SO long and instructors are always saying "bend your knees when you fold forward if you have tight hamstrings" but they were likely referring to the mid hamstrings and not at the sit bones. I've always thought it hurt more to do the bent knees and the pain didn't go away and I thought there was just something wrong with me. Bending with straight legs and not folding so deeply makes SO much more sense. Thank you both and thank you Purple Valley for sharing this knowledge. @}-----}-----------

This is great! What a wonderful conversation that addresses many of the questions surrounding an Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga practice. I love these videos. So tremendously informational! Thank you Purple Valley Ashtanga Yoga for making these efforts!

Great conversation. I would have liked to see the interview splice in postures giving examples of the variations that were discussed.

Love this video, thanks so much for sharing. I agree, some images of postures would have been helpful for this interview, but overall a vastly interesting and engaging conversation on yoga anatomy, the problems we encounter in postures and how we can help ourselves worry less.

These would be otherworldly if they demonstrated what they're talking about. Or post-edited the interview to include demonstrations 'over the top' of the audio.

I don't understand what he means by "rotate at the knee" 4:10 . I was under the impression that the ankle, elbow and knee were all hinge joints and so can't rotate.

It would be nice to add at least an image of the postures if not a demonstration :) The knowledge could be more easily spread, shared and understood.

Quite agree with that, but it was pretty comic pausing the video several times, Googleing like crazy whatever I could catch about the sound of the asana 😂😂 I guess everyone was a beginner once

Coming from a Yin background- I find some of the statements here a bit ignorant- Blocks- aren't "Crutches" that "need to be removed" necessarily. If a student is intentionally limiting range or can not sit with the mental tension (meeting edge) of allowing for gravitational release (That's not necessarily the block serving as a crutch. Thats' the person not being ready to 'be' with the posture. A student can get there and a block or a bolster can serve as an invitation toward deeper, targeted release. I think we could be more inviting of newer students- which keep all types of yoga practices ongoing- by encouraging students with all types of body shapes and minds (Relaxed and receptive or not) to participate "where the student is" Not with where your perception of the student should be. Also- I'm observing two lean white men having a conversation about anatomy. Have you considered that your anatomy is not representative of all anatomies. Your size is not representative of all sized people in yoga. ~ I'm also interested in knowing what your educational backgrounds are. Are any of you Physical therapists? Do you have any medical or PT or OT backgrounds?
