This video was fantastic, I absolutely enjoyed it. I think you should do a video about the Jane LRT, the Waterfront West, and possibly one about the Spadina Expressway :)

I'd love a Jane LRT video since it's so hard to find info on it. Although, it's relatively young and maybe there really isn't enough to make a video about.

Good questions at the end. 1) I agree with the Allen Road route. It was so much cheaper. If it took Dufferin, it would have ended at St. Clair instead of Wilson. 2) Midblock station at Glencairn (I thought it would have been called Blythwood) is maybe missing. Glen Echo is a bit too close to the valley and only would have 1 sided development. 3) Great point about crossing Don in Thornhill. That is quite a short bridge though - and maybe it only works if more of this portion is built using cut-and-cover. It's hardly worth extracting a TBM and then launching again 200m later. I say build the entire thing cut-and-cover and the savings can build all the mid-block (neighbourhood) could be built.

Excellent and detailed history of a system I know not much of (I'm in the UK) My comment is rather late as your vid has only just popped up in my feed. One very small correction though: Gloucester is pronounced "Gloster" (I know it's a tiny thing but I thought you'd like to know) Thanks!

A few things. First, according to Metrolinx, tunneling under the Don River is actually being done to save costs. This is stated in the recent Metrolinx Engage document on the last page: www.metrolinxengage.com/sites/default/files/ynse_may_5_northern_municipalities_voh_final.pdf Whether or not this is accurate or how this is the case is up in the air. I'm wondering if its only cheaper if Royal Orchard and/or clark are cancelled. Second, if I recall correctly, the stations being cut between Bridge and Finch was a stipulation that was placed if there wasn't any funding that was injected from outside (IE the Feds). Given that 40% of the line will now be funded by the feds, its likely that all of the stations are back on track.

The solution to congestion on the Yonge line isn’t an extension - it’s only going to exacerbate it. To provide service to Richmond Hill we should getting the Richmond Hill line included in the GO RER plan so there is frequent bidirectional electrified service rather than unidirectional service.

6:23 I believe this is Scheme 2 of the Jacobs & Davies plan. 3:30 I believe this is Scheme 3 of said plan. 7:12 Correction: A portion of the "Queen St. Streetcar Subway" went underground. The line also had connections to Broadview Station and the Danforth streetcar along the DVP and Royal Drive, as well as to the King, Queen, and Dundas streetcars. 7:53 They said "Rapid Transit" subway, but didn't specify if it was Chicago-style. I believe the "Chicago-style" came from the proposed rolling stock being a mix of the streetcars and the Chicago 'L'. (13:37) 10:58 Leslie Street Spit = Tommy Thompson Park 19:56 A more serious interlining junction would use cross-platform interchanges at both stations.

13:35, That actually a 5-50 Series Car. Similar to the 6000s, the only thing is, they're dual powered (poles/pans and 3rd Rail) and run as single-car rather than a married pair.

I thought mentioning the 5 workers killed constructing the York Mills station could have been mentioned. Another consequence of not building the high level bridge.

I had no idea that there was talk of building the Spadina segment along either Bathurst or Dufferin. I've been saying for years that they should have built the Spadina segment along Dufferin and the University section under Spadina Avenue.

All stations on the yonge line (And for some reason Osgoode and St Andrew stations on the Uni line) were finished with vitrolite tiling and used the now famous (but seemingly retired) ttc color easter egg where stations one one end of the line would have the same color as another station. Vitrolite tiles were found to be suboptimal. They're pretty easily cracked and broken and so in the 80s the ttc would redo all the original yonge line stations (and St Andrew and Osgoode) with more durable ceramic tiling. For some strange reason however, the ttc did not copy the original colors/patterns and did not always use the same type of tiles. This is why a bunch of the yonge line stations given this treatment look wildly different to their original appearances. Eglinton is the only station that escaped this treatment for some reason. Some of it's vitrolite tiling was replace from removed tiles from other stations such as Queen. www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.blogto.com%2Fuploads%2F2017%2F03%2F21%2F2017321-ttc-station-tiles-y.jpg%3Fh%3D2500%26cmd%3Dresize%26quality%3D70%26w%3D1400&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.blogto.com%2Fcity%2F2017%2F03%2Fttc-subway-colour-scheme%2F&tbnid=QjFi0y89kcafGM&vet=12ahUKEwjeutjjjN38AhUan3IEHWGWAzUQMygBegUIARDKAQ..i&docid=uTej2re1NlqaAM&w=1400&h=471&q=ttc%20subway%20station%20wall%20colors&ved=2ahUKEwjeutjjjN38AhUan3IEHWGWAzUQMygBegUIARDKAQ

The cost of postponing these project should be a lesson to governments. If much of this work had been done in the early 1900's imagine the subways we would have today!

Running the spadina subway extension through the ravine north to Eglington at grade would have been a way better idea and it would also save money. And the hoggs hollow portion between York mills and Shepoard should have been elevated. Its like the planners just want to put everything underground when they can just build it elevated to save time and money.
