Old English and Old Frisian are sister languages, so a lot of Dutch stuff will be similar but with different meanings along with the Frisian stuff. Here is some Frisian evolution of words that the meanings have slightly changed compared to English but you can see how they where once the same. 'Dat binne Fenna's boeken' 'Those are Fenna's books' the words 'that's' or 'those' where im from in Yorkshire is pronounced 'Dats' its like the 'th' at the beginning of the word is changed to a 'D'. The 'Binne' evolved into our word 'Been' which then evolved into 'Are' and we dont actually say 'Been' where im from we still say 'Binne' as in 'Ive just binne to shop' but the true pronunciation in Yorkshire accent would be 'Av juss binne teh shop' you see the 'to' is changed to 'teh' its like you begin to say the word 'to' but you only get to the T before the rest of the word is totally abandoned and we move onto pronouncing the next word...

I love provincial accents and want them to survive...but would be dumbfounded and desperately trying to comprehend what I'm hearing if I ever encountered certain ones. I remember going on a tour in New York City several years ago and running into three young Scotsmen. I'd never met Scottish people before and thought it was cool to be able to chat with them, but it was embarrassingly difficult to make out what they were saying, though they seemed to understand my American English (most of my life on the west coast) just fine. I distinctly remember one of them (and he was the chattiest one, I think) saying to me, "Beleeb me man, I'm TROYING," before having yet again to repeat something he'd just said so I could try to understand. I felt so bad for them at times and also felt like a moron, haha. :(

Not to mention how closely the two regions traded . Angles and Saxons spoke simalir languages but not quiet the same . Places like Hull traded with the Scandinavian and Northern European countries as well as parts of Germany .

@@mastersinr A lot of girls do age quite quick like that, especially if they live fast life of lots of alcohol, parties and food. This vid was from 2016. She could've been 21, now she's 25. In addition, the trend now for Instagram girls is lot's of makeup and facial work such as botox etc. I think she looks more natural in this vid which is probably for that reason.

Doors tend to be made of wood. When doors are open there is a hole. So “put wood in hole” is pretty self explanatory

Hey if I say I am A Kurd, almost all the turks become racist and say bad words even when we are nice to them. That's a shame on those racists, but I have respect and love for the good Turks which are a little amount of turks they are my sisters and brothers❤️

I can do what my friends think of as a passable Yorkshire accent, but I know it's just a generic version, because there are so many variants of the accent, depending on where in Yorkshire the speaker comes from. I once heard Michael Parkinson, from Barnsley, jokingly complaining that he couldn't understand anything that people from Sheffield were saying! This was from a bloke who completely bamboozled an American guest on his show by using the phrase, "Nowt bu' a lad"!

There is an obscure island somewhere in the south-east where they speak a virtually unrecognisable (to most English-speakers) form of English. I don't mean the Pidgin English of the Solomon Islands and other places where they use Pidgin. This is a distinct dialect. I read about it years ago in the local paper, but the location still eludes my memory. Does anyone have any ideas as to where this might be?

@@mercurygirl17 Thanks so much for taking the trouble to reply to my comment. No, it's an obscure island somewhere in the south east Pacific. I wish I'd made a note of the name. It was a newspaper article and they gave some examples of what it sounded like. It was almost like another language, but with recognisable English words. I'll have to Google the Gullah dialect though, because you've sparked my interest.

"Mardy" doesn't simply mean unhappy. It describes someone who is easily upset by trivial inconvenience or the slightest provocation, and then is inclined to cry or complain in a whining fashion. Mardyness is petulance. "Dun't be s' mardy" (Don't be so petulant); "Dun't mind 'im, 'e's just bein' mardy" (ignore that petulant individual); "Mardy boots" (a petulant person).

Put wood in th'ole lass my dad would say. Also, side the table for your mother lass, ie clear table to prepare for dinner etc. He called a vest a singlet (as opposed to a doublet). Mardy, petulant, hard to please. Mid 1800s Lancashire dialect. South Liverpool villages not part of the city until c1913. Dad born in Gateacre, lived in Woolton. His mother was born in Halewood village in 1869. (Pre 1960 urban sprawl and Ford Motors).. I suppose to people who don't understand historical context, we're all scousers now. Aged 81.
