Learning how to golf at the age of 12 in 1990 this was the putter I was given from my mom who had used it for years. I didn’t realize the putter had been around since the 70’s! I still have it in the basement with the knitted cover as well! Didn’t know they had made a new one. Looks like they did a good job updating while still keeping the original look.

Love that Tyler! Make sure you keep it!

I just got one of the originals for my son’s friend while building a beginners bag for him to gift his brother at Christmas. Never had one myself but I remember lots of the other juniors did. A guy in our club team still uses his!

Really interesting video - did not know the putter had been relaunched, but remember it well from the 80s! I never tried it myself as I prefer blade style putters, but it does look interesting, will have to give it a go if I can find one!

I love a bit of nostalgia John, so will probably purchase one to keep I think.

Good stuff Bernie, I had Zebra style (so a copy lol) putter when I was a junior, and one of the guys I play with regularly still uses his original Zebra, he tends to leave a lot of putts short so it may be with while getting him to watch this video! 👍🏻

Love that he still uses the original David! The new design is so much more forgiving maybe worth him trying it.

I tried this version of the new Zebras but prefer the fanged version. It’s easier for me to align. Made my first birdie with it.

Love that Jose. I’ll try and get my hands on the other designs I think.

I restored one of the originals recently. Putted quite well with it. I collect putters and have over 20 and try to take a different one out each time I play in winter. A member at the golf course recently got all his golf gear stolen, so I offered him the use of any putter until he got himself sorted, he chose the zebra which I had spent several hours restoring and was in great condition. He putted so well with it that he wanted to buy it... I didn’t have the heart to say how long I had spent restoring it, so sold it for £20... better having it used regularly rather than a rare winter outing with me.

That’s really good of you! It’s nice it’s getting a regular usage I guess, although I would have struggled to part with it!

Nice review. I use a very similar Ray Cook mallet putter. Bloody lovely. Bought the Zebra for Ben when he strted playing more rugularly. Think he still has it but it rattles!!!. Have you set the bus tour WhatsApp up yet or is it the existing one? Cheers

Nice looking putter😊. I'd be interested in checking one out if I hadn't just bought my new forever putter, the Wilson Buckingham model. Had to change to my regular grip but otherwise it's such a forgiving putter, for me anyway...😏😁
@berniebarnesgolf25 күн бұрын
I liked the look of it, but not changing either as I’m happy to with the current putter Badge.
@johngriffiths803325 күн бұрын
@berniebarnesgolf yep, your putting definitely looks better since the Lab. 🙂🙂

Weirdly earlier this year I dug out my original and used it for a few rounds but bit like you found it came up short mind you no shock for me that but got me back to thinking about classic mallet so now use John Rahm model Odyssey OG Rosie S with no sight lines transformed my putting

I literally found my original in the garage (as well as a couple of other classics) Richard a while ago and tried it out when I was struggling with the Scotty.

Nice review, I went through a phase of collecting the putters of my favourite golfers of the time so I got and refurbed a Zebra (Tom Watson), a Wilson TPA XV111 (Faldo's masters putter) and a Ping ANSER (Seve) which to be fair every other manufacturer has copied, Scotty, Evenroll et al. My flat stick is an original Odyssey 2 Ball which I love but am looking to try (when I have saved enough pennies) the new L.A.B DF3, did you get fitted for your L.A.B or just purchased blind?
@berniebarnesgolf25 күн бұрын
Love the collection! I’ve got 3 Scotties that are still boxed! I purchased blind (ish) as I did an online fitting when they first came out, so just used the spec from that. Saved myself a couple of £100.

Hey Bernie, I still use my Zebra and have still got the original grip on it 😂 started using it when I was a junior and now at 50, still have it in my bag, still have a ping zing 2 beryllium too, just realised how old I’ve got 😂😂

My putter is called a Hot Scorcher , it cost £12 ( brand new ) in 1986. It is hockey stick style and I have no idea who it was made by. I wouldnt change it for anything else !

Sticking with Scotty Cameron as I was fitted for it and once had three 2's on 3 of 4 Par 3's and lipped out of the fourth Par 3 ! So it can work and if its not performing its me and not the putter so sticking with it. Good video though

I bought one of the original’s, and still have with the knitted black and white sock cover, second hand about twenty years ago and not sure ever really putted with anything better. I know Simon and he does these things very well.

I got one these last year, really liked it but found it too light. I was going to get the heavier weights to put in it, but they seem to be permanently sold out! price has dropped as well now £99 on the Zebra website
@berniebarnesgolf11 күн бұрын
Yeah I’ve seen the price drop Neil, not sure if thats because they are clearing stock or whether the company is in trouble.

My friend just spent 1000s on new clubs, but couldn't bear to part with his original Zebra. You might assume he uses the Zebra because he makes a lot of putts with it. And you'd be wrong. Go figure. 😄

Did you know one professional fitted a magnet inside the bottom plate and was spoted picking up his metal marker and moving it nearer the hole with the now magnetised bottom plate.

Can’t say that I’ve ever seen or if I have it’s probably never appealed to me. I think the problem is Bernie like most people you get enticed into the bigger brands by all the marketing,and it has in the past been proven that happens a lot. For most people if they went in to getting fitted in all clubs and you have an open mind,you may get fitted into the correct product and it could be cheaper.
@berniebarnesgolf25 күн бұрын
Totally David! When I use to fit I’d often get people pick a club based on make, even when they hit another club better!
