Dad and I was a little skeptical at first but had the same problem with a job that torches couldn’t be used. Worth its money in labor, prep is pretty much the same as soldering, minus wrapping, nitrogen, and cooling down. Saved us tons of time just about paid for itself.

I used these for the first time a few months back. Absolutely amazing product and well worth using for VRF installs just to avoid brazing the tiny stubs on bs boxes! The speed of connecting the bs boxes up is just insane compared to wet ragging & brazing.

Been out of the trade for 5 years, Got bored so coming out of retirement,,Actually,I love working,and troubleshooting refrigeration-hvac systems,almost as much as I love making them do what they are supposed to. although I have seen a few of these fittings out in the field, you are the first experienced,unbiased,,(hopefully) tech to discuss these fittings. Still a little old school,but can see the major benefits,and applications.Look forward to see you cover these fittings over the long term. Brazing is fun though,,,,jus sayin....

I am a Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Dealer and while back I talked to the Mitsubishi Representative and asked about if Mitsubishi approves Zoom lock fittings, he says they have not. I don’t install VRF systems, I just install the M & P series which is Residential & Light Commercial, but I heard they did approve the VRF system, so I am confused unless since the residential units carry a 12 Year Parts Warranty and Mitsubishi feels like the fittings might not hold up for length of time.

Superior Comfort Heating & Air LLC I’m pretty sure Mitsubishi has a new training lab in GA with VRF AND M&P series that is completely constructed with ZoomLock fittings. I also know they’re approved for all other VRF manufacturers I’ve worked with, including York/Hitachi.

Thanks for responding back, I am a dealer for JCI products (originally York, now Luxaire) I know the York distributor here in Kansas is starting to promote Hitachi VRF, I have went to some training, but this is so new technology for United States, I just get concerned about getting any good technical support after the sale from the distributor or manufacturer level. I did listened to the recent podcast with Zack and I do admire and have respect for your knowledge on this technology

What's the big deal with all this VRF talk i hear. I mean is this hype or what.
@AKHVAC
@AKHVAC 6 жыл бұрын
It seems to be about half of everything I work on these days. Definitely not hype, like 80% of of the world outside the U.S uses VRF primarily. And for the last 35 years. We’re just late to the party.

Your rep is wrong. My training room has 40 Zoomlock fittings. The room was certified by Mitsubishi also. If you go to the Mitsubishi training room in Atlanta they have a cut away of a Zoomlock fitting in there. I also demonstrated the Zoomlock in one of the classes at that same facility. Finally Mitsubishi doesn’t care if you connect the indoor and outdoor with a water hose. Please pass that onto the rep.

Starting a large mini split job using zoom lock for first time and was very hesitant but looks like preparation is key unlike some plumbers I’ve seen using propress and not deburing fittings and then end up with multiple leaks. This always made me skeptical but now I see that pipe was never prepped which accounts for the leaks. SOLD!!!

First of all Thank You for your Service. Navy 75-79. I noticed in your other video's a "old school" Freon charging cylinder. My dad has his first one and I painted it black a long time ago. It took a razor blade and a lot of hours to clean it up enough for him to use. hahahaha. Been the HVAC trade for about 45 years now. What is VRF Bands? Who makes them? Where can I get some schooling on them? Thanks again Mike

It is about time that someone actually put the pressure knob on the wood and showed how much the Zoomlock fittings can take. At 6:57 you see the fitting split apart. People the o-rings still held up!!! If the tubing used was longer it would have burst there instead. The older Cerro Zoomlock test is also awesome to watch. I have had similar results using a freezer. I hope to update my videos soon.

We do a lot of hvac replacement in apartments. I know what you mean about how a open flame is frowned upon. I have used the zoom lock tool. My biggest gripe is that the manufacturers don't leave enough stubs on coils or condensers to start the zoom lock fitting. So a lot of times I am getting my torch out anyway to braze stub pieces in and then zoom locking the rest.

Awesome...love the ending. Very cool...I didn't realize HVAC had fittings similar to what plumbers have. Good to know. I guess the real question then is this...customers can save on labor cost, but how do the price of these fittings compare to brazing?
@AKHVAC
@AKHVAC 6 жыл бұрын
I’d say if the customer can save on labor, then that means the contractor did as well and decided to pass that savings along to the end user. I don’t think there’s one answer to the press fitting vs braze debate. It depends on the scale of the job, the size of pipe and the application/location. I’ll always have a torch kit in my van, but certainly see and have taken advantage of the opportunities to use press fittings in the field.
@markbeiser
@markbeiser 6 жыл бұрын
The fittings are very expensive, but not as expensive as the costs associated with a hot work permit. It can also be very difficult to be absolutely sure you are getting nitrogen flow through all parts of a complicated VRF piping system when brazing, while at the same time absolutely necessary to do so when brazing one up.

I’ve been using the pro press for the past year inside buildings on vav and boiler loops due to hot work BS. I really do like it, makes the job quick and don’t have to worry about customers freaking out when they hear the torch. I have the 12v version from Milwaukee up to 1 1/4 then 18v for bigger stuff. I was at Johnstone when zoomlock showed up doing there tour down here in SoCal, I do like there stuff looks like quality work but I’m little optimistic on the length of time until the fittings fail or start to leak, this stuff is still somewhat new and I know it will only improve in the future to driers and valves and until my company wants to drop money on a kit or starts telling us no more flame on rooftops, I’ll just keep the 🔥 alive and embrace the art of brazing. Q- if you didn’t have the zoomlock for the government building job what would you guys have done since you can’t have flame, flare everything ??

All right all right, let's be Al Pacino for a minute here and play devil's advocate. Let's say fine, the fitting can hold up to the crazy X amount of pressure at X amount of refr. temperature and vibration from a 2 hour long 9.9 earthquake with all the ambient heat, moisture, and direct sunlight that a nice Florida beach day has to offer, fine. But it has seals, and seals aren't metal and don't last forever, they 99.99% of the time NEED to be REPLACED. What then🤔.
@AKHVAC
@AKHVAC 6 жыл бұрын
I just know that schraeder cores, txvs, service valves, king valves, and semi hermetic compressors all have seals and/or gaskets that often last the entire life of a system. Rubber and Teflon is nothing new to sealed refrigeration systems, quite the opposite. One thing I WOULD doubt, though, is that any of those little gaskets and Teflon o rings would stand up to 4K psi like those fittings did. Just my opinion, thanks for watching man!
