WEAF became the flagship station for the new NBC Red Network launched in 1926 when AT&T sold its broadcast assets to RCA and AT&T left the broadcast business. Frieda Hempel sang on the RCA station WJZ which bcame the NBC Blue network flagship station. WEAF later became WNBC and remains on the same WEAF frequency 660kHz as WFAN today. WJZ was taken away from NBC in 1944 and became the new ABC flagship station WABC, still on the air at 770kHz.
