This felt as a critique about fake naturalness. The grass and the bonsai both should be imperfect because they’re part of nature, yet they’re grown in a lab and cut to milimetric perfection. Maybe a nod about how culture wants us to, you know “just be ourselves” as in “be natural”, but also wants us to be perfect according to its standards. You’re all free of thinking something completely different from me, and Mattys intent may be something way different from what we all interpret, that’s the beauty of art.
@MrsYleah75 Жыл бұрын
Think you have this spot on, he writes something in French that translates to “poetry is in the streets” which is from LIWMI. That just represents all you have just pointed out.
@Chase_AM Жыл бұрын
@@MrsYleah75The phrase has been part of the bands ethos since well before LIIWMI, so it was cool to see it used in the song when it came out.

To go along with what you said, this piece seems to have a theme of "synthetic authenticity" - Matty wakes up in a warehouse, changes in front of us, dresses in front of us, makes coffee in front of us, all in wide, uncut long shots. The setting is so sterile, so clinical, so engineered, however, that little about the character's true self can be learned. It's almost as though Matty is poking fun at the authenticity he himself has so carefully displayed since the end of the ILIWYS era and going to rehab. This ties into the larger theme of "A theatrical performance of an intimate moment:" there is an eternal tension between true intimacy and public display, and dancing along that razor's edge, thinking about that tension, seems to be where Matty has been spending a lot of his time.
@GeoD4444 Жыл бұрын
@@Silverblood113 sureee, It feels really in tune with the whole point of ATPOAIM and its weird meta comment of it being a film about authenticity when you can clearly see Matty rehearsing his lines for fan interactions and the several takes of Adam entering the room. All of this while, as you said, it goes even more meta with Mattys life going through those lines of synthetic authenticity

I am genuinely so devastated, I've only just found the 1975. I wish so much that I had followed them from the beginning :( Their music has been the soundtrack to my life but I've only just discovered who they are. Their songs I've heard and loved for years but never put the two together... strangely. It's like I wasn't supposed to know them until now. It feels all very 'invisible string theory'.

i think it all comes back to the whole concept of bfifl, where matty stated that the album was about doing what they know best, being a band and making music, the same goes here, matty going back to being matty and not trumanblack anymore, and taking control of the whole narrative returning to their roots and doing what they do best, making music and being a band.

since matty is chronically online i think it's about him trying "to go outside and touch some grass" which in his case is impossible to do in peace because of his fame. grass grown in the lab being just as artificial as his on-stage persona was - calculated, yet expanded in seconds unexpectedly.

The drill 'bit' was my favorite 😉🖤 I hope everyone appreciates the emotion and energy of the music. If you feel music, it suits it quite well, dare i say perfectly. The beginning is a little critical, anxious, and monotonously determined? Then the morning vibe hits, this is how i feel making my coffee before tending to my plants, like when the mood is good, then that first sip hits. It jumpstarts my soul, and its time to do the damn thing. The singing to himself is cute 😊 why does the melody feel so familiar i cant put my finger on it. So then the music hits where hes working tediously, perfecting it all. Its all moving along, the music is too. Still a little repetitive bc the work is too. And another la poésie est dans en le rue easter egg. Love itttt. This mad scientist is just wants us all to appreciate the arts around us as much as he does. Im with it. The music is determined and moving along some more. Then, after some silent waiting and some self entertainment and the drill 'bit', the music comes back in, fluttering, unsure, "is this it?" moment ? Then a quick reflection on the work, and hope we all appreciate the art surrounding us, the music is light, wonderous, and beautiful to match. I love this 🖤🖤

The atpoaim series could be pointing to a wider theme of critical versus emotional engagement. Until this video, we've seen a performance of the band's intimate off-stage lives and then we are presented with this video which is full of gestus and allegory. This new aesthetic for satvb perhaps is playing with how we treat music seated in popculture compared to wider circles of art. The complex layering of themes (some personal some addressing wider culture) is forcing our viewership to be critical of what we see rather than how the art makes us feel. We are encouraged to address how we consume rather than if we think it's good and why we like it. The v-effekt is a beautiful device that is about to have the 1975 audience in a chokehold.
@boogermaiden Жыл бұрын
What's a V-effekt?
@lils7818 Жыл бұрын
@@boogermaiden it’s basically breaking the fourth wall to irritate spectators in the audience and alienate them from the illusion that they are just watching, not partaking. The German playwright Bertolt Brecht called it the Verfremdungseffekt or v-effect in one of his works in the 1930s.
