The 3L 4-8-2 Mohawks 3001/3005 seen here with the post war Niagras are the final work of Paul Kiefer of the NYC with Chapelon of French Railways the greatest steam rail designer of the twentieth century. It is imperative to get 3001 under cover immediately and restore it to service as a National cultural imperative. It is an all roller bearing flyer and one of the most efficient and effective steam engines ever built, it ran the century faster than =any Amtrak train has ever gone outside the corridor its basic performance level is 5200-5400 bhp at 76mph or about 125kmhr produced on an efficient 310 long ton engine and large tender.

I always say, putting this at a board meeting and no one would care. 3001 is in very poor condition, even after her cosmetic. It's very unlikely that she's going to run. She's honestly better off as a collection locomotive

Wish many of these were not totally scrapped. Was born 1951, didn’t live near any RR. By the time we traveled somewhat, everything was diesel! Witnessed a few steam engines in the mid 1980s because my mother in law was a fan. Lived in Ohio so my biggest memory was of the NPR 765 and J class 611

@HaloCE14 Yes it is quite sad,I hadn't notice that was 3001 at 3:53 but there is another scene on the video showing #3001 at a pretty good speed I will probably upload it.
