Stryker was also probably meant for deception as well, as in shujinko's ending there's a shot of him absorbing all the playables' abilities and mk3 stryker is randomly there getting his abilities absorbed as well. He's the only one shujinko absorbs that is not present in deception outside of konquest cameos.

One of the reversed dialogues in Deception points out that Raiden, Shao Kahn, and Lucifer are all the same type of being. We know Raiden is a real defender god, therefore it stands to reason this is the role that Shao Kahn and Lucifer played for Outworld and Netherrealm respectively.

I'm not sure how intensional this is but I think Kabal's name is related to the Philippine word for "warrior", being Kawal, which is where the wrestler Senshi/Low Ki name in WWE came from which was Kaval. This is kinda related as Senshi's early TNA theme was similar to Techno Syndrome. See, full circle!

Regarding Liu Kang being or not being a descendant of Kung Lao. The movie is NOT the first reference to this. There is a 1994 Set of MK1 Trading Cards released by Classic which uses a combination of screenshots from MK1 and John Tobias' artwork from the MK1 Comic Book. Each character has a biography card (very similar to the character biographies in the MK1 Comic Book by John Tobias, re-using the same art and repeating much of the same information). On the back of the Liu Kang card is a biography for Liu Kang which mostly mirrors the comic book bio, but with an additional paragraph of flavor text which describes him as, "A descendant of an Order of Light monk who defeated Shang Tsung 500 years ago." - While it does not explicitly name the Great Kung Lao, the timing and implication seem to suggest this Order of Light ancestor WAS the character who beat Shang Tsung 500 years ago in the tournament (which is further re-enforced by the fact that the Great Kung Lao was the first member of the Order of Light to ever represent Earthrealm in the tournament.) - Since Great Kung Lao HAD TO be the first Order of Light member to defeat Shang Tsung in the tournament, It seems a stretch to believe a SECOND Order of Light Monk (Liu's unamed ancestor) then *also* defeated Shang Tsung *again* (under unrelated circumstances, also 500 years ago) and simply went unmentioned forever thereafter. Again - These trading cards were released in 1994, a full year before the Mortal Kombat movie. Where Classic got the profiles printed on these cards, I could not say - But I would ASSUME they were supplied by Midway, and again, they very much mirror the MK1 comic in many ways (repeating much of the same information). However the flavor text bio on the card doesn't seem to mirror Liu's backstory from the MK1 comic, and mentions he's entering the tournament to seek revenge, which seems to be another parallel more in line with the movie. While I doubt the card influenced the script of the movie, whether an early draft of the movie script influenced the cards I could not say. It is entirely possibly the card bio was written as a tie-in/lead-up to the upcoming movie which was assuredly already in the pipeline by that point. Mortal Kombat II would have released to arcades before these cards, but when the lore for the cards was written and prepared is anyone's guess. The timing is close enough that this may still have been lore written for the movies seeping into a tie-in for the video game one way or another. Furthermore whether or not these trading card bios (media outside the games) can be considered canon is dubious and debatable BUT since they seem to have been created in the same spirit as the MK1 comic, re-using much of the same artwork and information by John Tobias, I'm inclined to say they're a similarly valid a source of information (or at the very least built from the same source material). But if nothing else: The cards WERE released a year before the movie, and they ARE an MK1 game tie-in suggesting Liu is Kung Lao's ancestor BEFORE the MK Movie, and WELL BEFORE games like MK4 and MK: Mobile later re-enforced it. Modern day: It seems clear John Tobias & NRS are trying to downplay Liu's familial ties to the Great Kung Lao in favor of playing up Kung Lao's and possibly retcon out the idea that Liu was ever his relation in the first place (even though MK4 confirms it) - But I think the situation has always been more mottled than just a simple matter of the Movie influencing the games, and the fact that this trading card existed a year before the movie released is evidence of that.

True. Stryker was the original Jax. In two they wanted more diversity so made him what he is today. Initially he was meant to be a black kung fu fighter. They actually made Jax have the famous yellow and black outfit from Bruce Lees game of death film. Seems they couldn't get the animations right with that outfit, so changed it to the red and black pants. Which then made more sense to make him Sonya's partner and take over the original Stryker role.
