Also my neighbor uses my clippings in his garden between the rows to keep weeds down. I used to have a bagger on my old rider but never used it til the day after mowing. Wet it would plug up in the chute going back to the bagger. (Also prevented spontaneous combustion later).

I inherited a lawn sweeper from my dad,and it is about 65 years old,and built like a tank. I don't use it much anymore for picking up leaves in the fall,which was it's main use. It does pick up great,but the basket fills up real quick,especially if you let the leaves built up too long. It also doesn't chop up the leaves,and it takes more bags to collect them,which is why it is semi-retired. My battery lawnmower is great for leaf pickup,and I run it over the lawn when I get a single layer of leaves. I am a city boy,so leaves are bagged and put at the curb for the city to remove. The city puts them in a huge compost pile,and gives away the compost free for anyone who wants it.

I always wait until the next day to sweep my lawn. Did it once right after cutting and had it sit awhile in separate piles and heat built up in one pile and it caught fire from spontaneous combustion. Scared the beegeebers out of me. The other piles were quite warm on the inside so I spread them out a tiny bit to cool. Just saying....

I just bag them. I don't have animals or a garden in my tiny yard. Last time I pushed a non self propelled mower I had a heart attack , so I wouldn't be pushing that sweeper around.
