I've had some real bad experiences with car sales. I can honestly say that I would definitely feel confident buying a car from you. That customer is 100% correct in what he's saying but on the flip side he could of tried getting everything done through the warranty. Deffo a free service as its cheap enough to buy a service kit for 1 of those. So nice to see a genuine trader, keep up the excellent service you provide mate.

I have the same attitude as this gent. The only difference is, I tend to do as much of my own work on cars as I can because I have a deep mistrust of garages. This unplugged sensor on this Ka bears that out 😉. I would definitely do as J.P. suggests - you both win as he is very likely to be back at your door for his next car. These are the customers you want coming back.

Great Story. 😃 To be fair, that's exactly the attitude I have. If I was paying £5k for a used car with warranty, then I would contact the seller if there was a problem. I bought my current car during lockdown and had it delivered, not having seen or driven it, sold as is, no warranty for £1750, on the basis of a 7day no quible return if the car wasn't as described. There's faults with the electric windows & the air-con isn't working 🙁 (not mentioned in the ad) but it's a 10 yr old used car with 130k miles. It drives fine & I like the car.😏 If I wanted a motor similar age with no faults I'd expect it to cost £1000 more. I'd rather have that money to sort the car myself. Just MOT'd it - needed bulbs and has a lot of advisories incl one v.bad tyre & another very low(which I'd spotted). My choice to have 4 new tyres (£250), replace the tatty gearknob, new wipers. Was supposed to have had oil change before sale but clearly not😒. Most dealers treat customers like chumps. I'll change all filters, oil, coolant, brake fluid etc myself for peace of mind (£100). As I do few miles & expect the car to last a while, again, my choice ; I plan to clean, de-rust & undetseal the chassis. Your car is what you make of it. Treat it with respect & it'll take care of you. Great Channel 👌 & really enjoy your vids, but you are too soft for a car dealer. 😇 All the best 👍👍 👍 Rob.

This reminds me of when I bought a Chrysler Crossfire from eBay. The car was absolutely stunning but the listing really poor. It was a no reserve auction and I got it for £1024 (examples of this standard were going for about £2500-3000 at the time). The seller and I acknowledged that I'd 'stole it' at that price but he was a real nice guy and was still friendly and honoured the sale. The car only had one key. About 2 months later, there was a knock at my door and it was the seller. He's found a second set of keys and detoured about 15 miles on his way back from work to drop them off to me!!

When I think back to the late 60s and I bought a Ford Zodiac and the dealer had it on the road for me (no test drives then as I was 17) and I drove away Came to a roundabout and then found I had no brakes. I pulled the handbrake up and it came out of the centre console. I got it home by nerving it, rang him up, and he told me they were working and hung up. I laugh now but it’s nice to see you treat customers with honesty and respect.

Most of my customers were nice, and I always looked after them. It usually resulted in referrals to their families and friends or workmates and more sales. But I had one customer once who came back without the car, and angrily said the rear subframe had fallen out of it. I got it recovered to my garage and sure enough, one rear wheel was way out of alignment with the wheel arch. Someone came in for petrol and said - I see you've got Mrs Smith's car in. I said - yes, there's a problem with it. He said - I'm not surprised. She's learning to drive and was practicing in the disused quarry. She put it down a gully and they had to get a JCB to pull it out!

They never did supply a logbook and the DPF was stuffed. But Hay Ha Ho I drove it off the forecourt so it's now my responsibility. He prob would have brought it back for you to work on and pay for it, but didn't want to seem like a whinging customer. Buy him a few cask ale beers if you wanna do something nice

I'm doing some work for him now

You should immediately contact BBC and have David Attenborough do a documentary on this guy, he is probably the last living example of his kind.

If you're gonna do anything then you can't go wrong with a Bunch of flowers, couple of bottles of wine (red&white) and a voucher for a meal out at a local restaurant, a nice evening out will be something they'll remember after the tough 18 months everyone's had 👍

What is the name of the oil, you use to blacken up the black. I have a Red Citroën C1 platinum. At least you prep a car before you sell, eg, sort a dent out. Some Garage owners, sell cars, dents and all. Your a honest bloke.
@ChopsGarage3 жыл бұрын
I have been know to sell with dents but only where the car is so cheap no one would pay the extra for repair. Its High Shine from Autosmart
@BroomopUK3 жыл бұрын
you should just carry on with life. But yeah hes kinda acting like he paid for a trade car rather than a retail car. Aircon not working should of came back to you.

for all black or grey plastic trim we use coconut oil it resists rain marking and the shine lasts for weeks . my independant citroen dealer uses a Micra for a curtoesy car for a little petrol with 250K on the clock its still going well. buy him a years membership to a breakdown company think the AA is £89 a year. Autohome is £112 but they will always take you home if you ask them to not to a main stealers and that includes homestart to. they will also take your car to any garage within 25 miles of your home for free. so if you breakdown a hundred miles from home you ask them to take you and your car home, arrange repair with the garage and then ask them to move the car to the garage. Im pretty sure the £112 is for personal coverr which covers you for any car your in plus a trailer. so my estimates could be wrong.

I'd say it's a very common attitude, it's just that you probably won't be aware that many customers do this because the car doesn't come back to you. In this case, if his air con had worked, you wouldn't have known about any of the things he had done to the car. I'm equally impressed at you offering contributions to the clutch or re gas because I've never experienced that from a dealer, even when I've got a legitimate problem with a car I've bought. I'm sure in the end most dealers are fine and most customers are fine, it's just we love to talk about only the very best and the very worst of them because that makes for more interesting stories.

You are not responsible for anything but how you are working and building your business a free labour service (Parts excluded) or a free MOT , offer of a good price buy back later against another car when he is ready to change next. Personally I wish you all the best , not many honest traders about.

Whatever you offer him in the future, be it a service or MOT or whatever, for the right now I'd buy him a drink. Doesnt have to be alcohol, just get a Costa coffee voucher to say thank you; stick it in a card and post it through his door.

These people are very rare, a freebie service would be a nice touch James. Good service will spread by word of mouth & you never know by doing this could lead to this gentleman/or his friends buying another car from you.

Yep service for sure

No this guy actually has the correct attitude. It's not the car dealers fault, a car is an item which suffers wear, what I've seen from your videos is that you will mitigate as much as you can, but you don't have a crystal ball & can't forsee what's coming over this hill re: repairs etc.He actually is realistic, you're just nit used to that. 👍👍👍

I live in Portugal and garages here selling used cars charge you for a warranty.if the cost of the warranty is high then their is usually something wrong with the car. Your ethics are spot on and I can see you getting a good reputation.

@@dizzy2020 Hello John, I purchased a Skoda fabia from a car dealer in Lisbon for 2750 Euros which was what they were selling for at the time but a warranty was going to cost me 1000 Euros on top. Didn't bother with the warranty as car drove ok but transpired that the engine was burning oil at 1 litre per 100km but no smoke?. Replaced engine at my cost. At time of purchase I signed a disclaimer to say I don't want to purchase a warranty so dealer knew engine was burning oil and the warranty cost would have covered his expenses.

I recently bought a Peugeot RCZ the garage fixed a water in diesel sensor, and then while driving home the egr valve failed so I had it fixed and paid for myself, I wouldn’t bother the garage I bought it from even thou it’s in warranty, but they are a long distance away from me

You sir are a gent

Is it a possibility that the sensor was off anyway if he went to get it gassed up thinking that would cure it? Maybe the garage that gassed it missed the sensor being unplugged? Let's face it if he went to Kwik fit or Halfords you just know they haven't a clue!
@ChopsGarage3 жыл бұрын
You are right its entirely possible to be fair to them it might have already been off
