75th Ranger Regiment: 40 Years With Regimental Headquarters and 3rd Ranger Battalion

Following the success of OPERATION URGENT FURY by 1st and 2nd Ranger Battalions in Grenade in 1983, the demand for Rangers was high.
To meet that demand, then Chief of Staff of the Army, Gen. John A. Wickham, ordered the activation of a 3rd Ranger battalion and a Ranger Regimental Headquarters.
Forty years ago, the 75th Ranger Regiment was born, and it has led the way for our Army and nation ever since.
From the jungles of Panama to the streets of Mogadishu, to the sands of the Middle East and the mountains of Afghanistan, the modern Ranger Regiment has stood the test of time.
This week marks the 40th Anniversary of the activation of 3rd Ranger Battalion and the Regimental Headquarters, and we honor this moment as well as all Rangers, past and present.

A lot of units, organizations and agencies have people behind the scenes and supporting the main mission who do a TON of work that never gets recognized. These people are the LIFEBLOOD of any good organization. I makes TOTAL sense that such a professional and "squared away" unit like the Rangers also has Admin and support personnel who are as equally professional and squared away as well. Makes you proud to be an American when you see this kind of stuff!!!

Awesome! I quit school when I was 17 because I wanted to join the Army and because a Ranger. But my father was in World War 2 and constantly talked to me about not joining. He said with my anger and lack of fear I would not make it back home. I am so sorry I am not a veteran it really bothers me. Thanks to all the veterans that has protected the USA and other countries.

When Regt was spooled up the standards were dropped. They were letting folks through RIP that never would have made it through the battalion RIPs, we were dxing folks the first week they got to us. I am glad the refrigerator got up to speed. The first Regt col sucked.

I read a biography of Erich von Manstein. His plan led to the downfall of France in six weeks. He captured Sevastopol, the most heavily defended fortress in Russia. Outnumbered 2:1, he defeated the Red Army at Kharkov, stabilizing the entire southern front. He got 40,000 German soldiers out at Korsun despite being outnumbered 3:1. However, no ranger tab, so there is nothing to learn from him. His military skills simply can't compare to a 20-year-old tabbed E-4 in Ranger Battalion who completed a 62-day military school.
