Jesus. This is my favorite song by The Jam, but even I had no idea it kicked this much ass. This has to be the best version of it. Simply incredible. If this doesn't amp you up at least a little bit i don't know what to say to you.

Speechless !!! ... FANTASTIC for a three piece band !!! ... Borrowed the single of my mate in school & the moment Paul Weller started singing ... the production was "mind blowing". .... I started a year later on a YTS scheme in a garage and the daughter of the car salesman was friends with Bruce Foxton who drove a 6 series BMW at the time !!!.... the young lady was a traffic warden !!! .... Absolutely amazing song writing !! ... MANY THANKS

I cannot find a better Jam live set on YT than Newcastle City Hall 1980 especially when the HD one was up there. The Jam at the peak of their powers.

May 24 1982 The Jam played in an old hockey arena on the grounds of the Canadian National Exhibition, Toronto Canada. For history buffs, the Monkees played there, with Jimi Hendrix as an opening act many years before (69?). Probably one of the worst acoustic spaces of any venue on the planet, I had to fight my way through the crowd, girlfriend in tow, to find the "sweet spot" in the place where the lyrics were coherent. Toronto being the exuberant and knowledgeable place about music, if even somewhat obscure, or maybe it was just the drugs, rocked on with the bad sound throughout. Eton rifles, GTH.

I'm sure the Wembley Arena in London would give it a run for its money!

This is an amazing song! LYRICS Sup up your beer and collect your fags There's a row going on down near slough Get out your mat and pray to the west I'll get out mine and pray for myself Thought you were smart when you took them on But you didn't take a peep in their artillery room All that rugby puts hairs on your chest What chance have you got against a tie and a crest? Hello-hurrah, what a nice day, for the Eton rifles Hello-hurrah, I hope rain stops play, with the Eton rifles Thought you were clever when you lit the fuse Tore down the house of commons in your brand new shoes Compose a revolutionary symphony Then went to bed with a charming young thing Hello-hurrah, cheers then mate, its the Eton rifles Hello-hurrah, an extremist scrape, with the Eton rifles What a catalyst you turned out to be Loaded the guns then you run off home for your tea Left me standing, like a guilty (naughty) schoolboy We came out of it naturally the worst Beaten and bloody and I was sick down my shirt We were no match for their untamed wit Though some of the lads said they'll be back next week Hello-hurrah, there's a price to pay, to the Eton rifles Hello-hurrah, I'd prefer the plague, to the Eton rifles Hello-hurrah, there's a price to pay, to the Eton rifles Hello-hurrah, I'd prefer the plague, to the Eton rifles Songwriters: Paul John Weller

The Jam is one of the most underrated bands ever. The tight and flawless compactness of this three person band with the intensity and energy fuelled by Weller’s spot-on lyrics, Foxton’s melodic baselines and Buckler’s killer drums is just fantastic. A pity that group was split too early, they could have made many more masterpiece albums if they had continued on the trail they were onto…

Another _"underrated"_ comment: the final fallback of people with fuck all else to say.
