Weller was 21 (I think) when he wrote this track. How, at that age, do you have your finger on the pulse of society so clearly? & then elucidate it so eloquently? Breathtaking talent.

Well, I think he might have been watching Coronation Street one evening with Mike Baldwin, the factory owner, buying cigars from Alf Roberts' corner shop but that's just my take on it. Great song.

Men of that age in Australia are still pissed The Jam never came here . They would have got a scooter escort in Adelaide from about 30 Vespas , the Clash got one and seemed to dig it , drank beer after the gig for a few hours & answered Q's about The Jam.
@jonathansteadman79353 жыл бұрын
@@stuartharrison165 Didn't know they didn't get to play Australia, still the Clash had that energy in their gigs and was lucky enough to have seen them.

@@jonathansteadman7935 Clash were great but within a few yrs Mick Jones turned them into the rock cliche they said they hated & Joe couldn't prevent it . Weller's never let that happen , although Style C had their dodgy moments .Never team up with a Mick , especially if he thinks chewing matches is cool .
