Brisbane has a long way to go to reach "good" public transport fares aside. I can see buses being piled up at peak hours and with more people using public transport, it will only get worse, especially during the Olympics. Brisbane needs more train and metro lines and with higher frequency and reliable timing to act as a backbone instead of buses. Buses cannot bear the majority of commuters. Any good public transport system has trains/underground as backbone, then complemented by tram lines, which are then supported by buses. I am assuming that there are various logistical, financial, and engineering obstacles that make it near impossible to implement such a system, but things can still be improved. Especially, what is lacking is any transport across outer suburbs. I'm tired of having to take an hour trip in and out of CBD just to get from Moorooka to Mt Gravatt, which would only take 15 minutes by car. It doesn't make any sense. I am honestly worried about the Olympic Games. 8 years is not a lot in the scale of the event. Plus, as you mentioned, they need to build a long term infrastructure that will serve the community long after the games. Sydney managed to pull it off to a certain extent.

People are also complaining they don’t have enough buses, trains and parking to cope with the volume of passengers taking advantage of the 50 cent fares.. As for Star Casino..Seven News give them a free plug every night by having them in the background of the news desk. The brisbane metro extension north is along the exact corridor the state government will be tunneling for a toll road. Maybe the 2 groups could get together and achieve a world class system instead of bus lanes along the busiest road with 30 sets of traffic lights. Especially considering that the state government abandoned its bus lanes 400 m from the largest shopping centre in the Southern Hemisphere 🤦. Nobody in council had any thoughts about how they were going to use the corridor when the state government said they blew their budget and merged the bus lanes into general traffic 2 blocks from the major interchange.😡 As for a westward extension, the obvious answer that should already be in construction is UQ lakes to Indooroopilly/Toowong. Council built a dedicated bridge to UQ but UQ won't even let them run busses through their campus. Shameful

And who actually pays for the transport service?
@BrisbaneChannelАй бұрын
I suspect you already know the answer to that.

who would have thought, multi billion dollar project getting designed and redesigned over and over just so public wealth can get funneled away into the pockets of developers.

Let them walk away with the hospital. It is a ploy developers use all the time. There's the door. Government has a role in lifting the barrier to entry to developers. If they are not competent enough they have to be educated.

The Gabba is the only choise and the best one! If people don’t like it, just move out of the city you dummies, and get the poor kids out of that little school, and combine it with cooparoo high! Lots of great room for sports and a beautiful creek for kayaking. And it’s only 5 to 10 min away.

Perhaps they should consider replacing the Gabba stadium with a new site. It may cover a major part of the cost of a purpose built stadium if it is developed as high rise residential development. The existing site is too small and public transport is poor.

Brisbane needs a major rail network upgrade. It is 20 years behind the times.

Give me one good reason why Stephen Miles should not be the next Premier - QSAC as the Olympic stadium. It was a joke when they built it in the first place.
