Seeing as some of the commenters here have issues with traffic, maybe a video pertaining to the state of active transport infrastructure and Council or State plans to implement improvements. Since the only effective method known to reduce congestion, is to have less cars on the road.

Yep, a Brisbane traffic video would be interesting, especially for northside. At least the southside got the M1 upgraded with multilanes but Gympie Rd/ Bruce Hwy have largely been ignored without expansion (at least, not until just south of Tanawha which by then is obviously the Sunshine Coast!). Grid lock from Aspley then the Linkfield Road turnoff heading into Strathpine and that whole schemozzle on THAT Gympie Rd until Petrie! And don't get me started on the people with "broken fingers" ie not indicating.......Merry Christmas! (lol)
@CommentsTroll4 күн бұрын
expansion of the current road is not going to solve the problem on the northside. what is needed is a dedicated road for the purpose of going north only (NOT into shops and residences). ie no intersections/traffic lights.
@BrisbaneChannel4 күн бұрын
The fact that two comments here talk about either broken fingers or broken indicators confirms my own experience. Unfortunately it only takes a minority to shape how we view all drivers, but there are particular things that seem to be quite pervasive. As for the congestion issue, personally, I think that's such a major issue that needs not just infrastructure improvements to roads and public and active transport networks, but also a cultural change. Even if we had perfectly viable alternatives to driving which could reduce the number of cars on the roads, limiting it to those who really need to be driving (and there'll always be people who do need to drive), we're so car-centric in our thinking that those alternatives may not have as much of an effect as they could, as we drive by default. When I interviewed the guy from RACQ, he said it would only take a reduction in people driving of around 15% to dramatically improve the traffic situation in Brisbane.

Crazy that Fairfield and Venner Rd intersection made the list, considering it's a roundabout. Venner in Nowegian is 'Friends', which is a little ironic given the behaviour exhibited there.
@BrisbaneChannel5 күн бұрын
I can understand why there'd be a lot of accidents at roundabouts. I've seen so many people who don't seem to understand how roundabouts work, who has right of way and how to indicate so people know where you're going. I think there's also a bit of a visibility issue with that one. I know when I'm approaching it from Fairfield Gardens' direction, it can be hard to see cars that are already on the roundabout.
@Synthon115 күн бұрын
@BrisbaneChannel, yeah, that's true, and the Park Rd entry complicates matters as well. Terrible congestion at peak times, which can push people to make bad decisions.

Hi Adam! I’m moving back to Brisbane next year and have really enjoyed keeping up with things on your channel. I’ve been trying to figure out a bit more about the new metro since I’ll be living near one of the stations and one thing I can’t seem to find a clear answer about is what these proposed extensions to the metro network will actually be in terms of infrastructure. It seems like the metro routes proposed so far will follow the northern and eastern busways which are their own roads/funnels rather than just a painted lane on the existing roads. Do you know if these extensions (such as the one to chermside) will mean the construction of major new busway infrastructure like tunnels or elevated roads? Thank you and have a nice Christmas!
@BrisbaneChannel4 күн бұрын
It's too soon to have any indication of what the extensions would look like, as they're really just an idea at the moment. There's been no masterplan made up at this stage.

Yep, traffic! I have several gripes that I feel need to be highlighted: 1. Idiots not complying with the meaning of yellow lights resulting in going through on the red. 2. Disobeying speed limits, particularly the 40 and 50 limits. Unfortunately, the "stressies" are everywhere. They are the folk who get stressed about going to work in the morning and getting home at night. Bunch of bloody loonies they are! Learn to recognise stress and control it and roads would be a lot safer.
@BrisbaneChannel2 сағат бұрын
I agree that many people see amber lights as a signal to speed up to get through, rather than "stop if safe to do so" as it's meant to be, and speed limits being ignored (in both directions) is also an issue.

I'm a bus driver for BCC. I love your channel. Arrogance + idiotic manoeuvres are gobsmackingly and heart stoppingly on a steep rise. Latest trick is to cross in front of a moving bus to make a left hand turn. Main concerns are mind numbing and time wasting congestion, roadworks that take YEARS to complete (if ever). International licensing needs a good look at too. And young tradies in utes are in a league of their own. It's like being in a game of Frogger :)

This isn't really specific to Brisbane but Australia in general, but I think you could do some good by raising awareness. A lot of drivers don't seem to understand that turning vehicles must give way to pedestrians and people on personal mobility devices who are crossing the road the vehicle is turning into. Too many times I have been beeped at by angry motorists who refuse to give way while I'm crossing the road their turning onto, or are angry at me for (rightfully) giving way to pedestrians who are crossing the road I am turning onto. As a side note, I noticed that the KP green bridge records the number of pedestrians, cyclists and scooter that cross it each day on a sign. I don't know how it distinguishes scooters from bikes, but I guess it must be some kind of AI video surveillance? It's not like they have a guy counting scooters and bikes all day. This got me thinking, could they also display the amount of meth heads which cross the bridge each day? I have a feeling that there may be more meth heads in KP now that the bridge is open. A couple of days ago one of them went into a KP cafe and asked for a steak knife, he then started using it to threaten the customers. Police were called, but I can't find any info about it. Maybe it was swept under the rug?
@BrisbaneChannel4 күн бұрын
You're right that there's little awareness about the rule for right of way of pedestrians etc at intersections. I didn't even know about it until I was researching for the video on active transport and read an article interviewing Anna Campbell from Queensland Walks. It's definitely a dangerous thing to have the majority of drivers not knowing about it, and then pedestrians who cross expecting that they do. I do think it would be good to include in a video to help improve awareness, but it seems to me like there should be an awareness campaign at a state level to really have much of an effect. The bit about sweeping things under the rug, that's a challenge I have trying to put out informative info about Brisbane, as it can be hard to even know a lot of what's going on. As the channel grows, I am increasing access to official sources of information, but what I really dream of is being able to tap into more community-level sources, as at the end of the day, I'm still reporting similar stories to those in mainstream media. I'd like to be able to shine a light on more of what doesn't make the news but is still news worthy. But that's very hard as a small channel and a one man band.

A speeding cyclist killed a pedestrian last year at Queen's Wharf. For ten days in December a public light show was put on in that area and cyclists were asked to dismount and walk for 100m for pedestrian safety. Most of them refused to dismount and then a group actually staged a protest about the shocking demands to dismount for 100m in a high pedestrian area. Tells you everything you need to know about cyclists in Brisbane.
@BrisbaneChannel4 күн бұрын
With regard to the pedestrian killed in 2023, both cycling and walking advocates visited the site and agreed that it was dangerous to both people walking and cycling, partly due to visual barriers and partly due to confusing signage among other things. Together, Queensland Walks and Bicycle Queensland wrote to local and state government calling for an urgent review of safety and markings on the Bicentennial Bikeway. They also called for adoption of the "safe systems approach" which is standard on road infrastructure, and dictates infrastructure that means that people can make mistakes without facing a serious risk of injury or death. There does not appear to be a finding that the cyclist's speed was the cause of the accident, but it appears inadequate infrastructure may have played a significant part. I'm not saying that speed was not a part of it, but jumping to that conclusion is a simplistic way to look at things unless based on actual findings. When I interviewed Andrew Demack from Bicycle Queensland, he stressed that cyclists needed to be aware that on shared paths, they are no longer the vulnerable ones. Pedestrians are. He's a cyclist, so should he be put in the same basket as those who ride recklessly? It's really not helpful to anyone to define an entire group based on the behaviour of a segment of it. I've been nearly run off the road as I drove my car by reckless drivers, but does that mean everyone who drives a car is a danger? While I personally think that refusing to dismount for a small section is petty, I also understand the point they're trying to make that the bikeway is meant to be a public thoroughfare, and a private enterprise taking it over is an issue (as others have said of events such as the city botanic gardens being closed for a ticketed light show run for profit). If we all could drop the us vs them mentality and try to see where each other is coming from, we'd probably make a lot more progress in improving things.
