Tyler Bradt Highest Waterfall In A Kayak 189ft (Official World Record)

Tyler Bradt completes the World Record Waterfall Descent. This drop was re-measured at 189 ft. A few feet taller then we had previously thought... Tyler sustained minor injuries which included a sprained wrist and a massive hit.

Pushing the human body is something I've always loved. I'm a pro powerlifter, so I completely understand the thrill of jumping levels and putting yourself on the line... But HOLY SHIT. Tyler needs to go get checked out by a doctor immediately, because his nutsack is WAY to big. This is a pursuit that very few people would ever undertake, and it amps me up every time I watch it. About 6 years ago, (2015 I think) wife and I were visiting the falls, the flow was not a great as it was in this video, but we saw a kayak go over the falls. We thought we were witnessing a mistake/tragic accident. We watched the kayak paddle out of the pool and to shore. About 5 minutes later, a second one goes over the falls. Same result. Another 5 minutes go by and a third repeats the event. After the second one, we realized it was planned. People say I took crazy risks in my younger days. I was a chair bound conservative compared to these people.

extreme paddlers like these guys receive injuries very often! broken noses, shoulders, etc... when you run a high waterfall, the most important thing is to get your boat vertical to the surface before hitting the water. otherwise you could easily broke your back or something else.........

George R.R Martin HAT Majority of kayakers survey the waterfalls they intend to leap off of beforehand. If you notice in the beginning of the video, the phone call he made to his buddy states that they have been watching the activity of the waterfall for the right time to do so. I'm sure they're well aware of the depth of the pool they will land in. Yes, the idea is to be vertical and before impact cross your arms and push your head against them into the hull of the kayak. This closes the gap in which the buoyance of the kayak will force against the kayaker upon impact.

The water at the bottom is churned up and air-ated, so the impact is softer. If you were to launch of a 180ft bridge with flat water underneath the impact would then definitely break the boat and the paddler.

The fact halfway over you see it's already a white out and looks to be submerged is terrifying, then the wash machine pool at the bottom. Being in a kayak and performing the duck roll is probably the only way of escaping the power of the shower

Additional risk presents itself at 2:37 in the final drop segment. You can see the falls take a bump on the way down. The bump is within sight of anyone planning on doing the drop, but who would notice it until hitting it? Any unexpected bump on the drop could alter one's orientation from feet(-on-pegs) first to back-of-the-neck first, or sideways or whatever. It seems pretty obvious that he could have easily been killed if his orientation was suddenly bumped out of alignment. Very risky stuff!

A kayaker drowned last year going over the 12 meter Lundbreck waterfall that doesn't have anything close to the volume this fall has . He was held under by the recirculating water at the base for 10 minutes. He was an expert kayaker and had successfully gone over this waterfall many times before, as have many other kayakers. One is taking a random chance for death doing this.

I was that daring once... Until a 500 ft. Slide down a glacier bowl behind Sniwmass Mountian ended that for me. Was a hell of a ride though,I basically fell while trying to free my backpack from me. Because there was a lightning storm came up on us while we were descending the bowl on the opposite side from the mountain. Didn't want a lightning rod on my back,but I missed one strap when I swung it free from me. So down I went on the slope,and man,I picked up speed. Somehow I stayed on my back and my arm went into a Crack in the ice and that's what stopped me dead... Almost cost me my arm,tore all the nerves in my shoulder,took 2 years to get my arm function back. And hyperextented both sciatic nerves in my back,. I got lucky,another 100 feet or so was a secondary cliff about 200 feet tall right into the bowl itself I the bottom. I would have shot off of there and landed in the bowl water,and that would have finished me,lol... This was before cell phones,we had nearly a day to walk out to get back to town to get help..
