I totally agree with you. When I first bought this CD I listened to it one time from start to finish and I thought it was horrible. I threw it in the drawer and didn't touch it for years. Then I found it again and listened to it again, and again, and again. It's now one of my top as well. I guess I was thinking it would be more "proggy" then their other stuff.

I saw the tour with Primus opening...Primus was amazing, but Rush was kinda boring. (I was also with my future ex wife, that didn't help, lol.) However, many years later I saw them again & it was a great show, & they played for almost 3 hours.

Never figured I'd see anything from this LP on ANY reaction channel...kinda made my day. On another note, and just throwing it out there, "Witch Hunt" and, if you're into the Space Program, "Countdown" are a couple of kinda obscure cuts you'd probably enjoy. I've also been waiting for some of their first LP to start popping up. No matter what anyone says, that album is heavy as hell...considering the state of music when it came out. The early KISS stuff is nasty as well...

So many people are discovering Rush and feel exactly like you do. There's nothing now, nor then, that's anything like them. Neil's lyrics are mind blowing and Geddy sings them in the exact way they should be sung. Alex is a god, of course. They are a perfect trifecta. It brings me so much happiness to see them loved and appreciated by another generation, as much as we did throughout their journey from the beginning. 💙

I love that line, "I radiate more heat than light." It's been a guiding principle for me, whenever I converse with someone, and especially disagree. The heat dissipates and hurts, but the light shows reality and shares knowledge. We should always remember which we emanate more of. This was the first Rush album I ever bought with my own money as a kid. And it still holds a special place in my heart. It's not my favorite, but it's got so many great gems in it. Anyone who hasn't heard "the Pass" yet owes it to themselves. Talk about a moving song.

I would argue that the Trees has TWO different meanings, depending on how you read into it (and as my personal politics have changed as I aged, it still resonates to me, just in a different way now). That's beautiful writing, when there is evidence for multiple different, complex readings of a text.

Totally agree with you Alex is highly underrated as a guitarist. He often is over shadowed by the rhythm section of Geddy and Neil but if you listen closeLy he does a lot of little accents and chordal playing during the verses that add so much to the song. He really shines on his solos and has a very distinctive sound that when you hear it you know it’s Alex playing.

I have 1 or 2 songs from each of their 20 studio albums (I include the EP, Feedback). Yes, you get it. With Rush, it's the MESSAGE! The music paints a picture for the right hemisphere and the words take care of the left hemisphere. Rush IS a journey and can indeed provide the soundtrack of a life. They have done that for me. I began at age 15 (almost 16) in '75 with the Fly By Night album, which I bought as an EIGHT TRACK (yeah, I'm really old school). With the first few chords of the opener, "Anthem," I was hooked. I've grown up with this band. I'm glad you took the time to also watch the documentary, "Beyond the Lighted Stage" because it shows the humble beginnings of Rush. I joined after "The New Guy" was in the band for less than a year. The Holy Trinity has prevented me from taking my own life hundreds of times. Yes, the rabbit hole is DEEP, my friend. Welcome to the mission of Rush. (RIP, Professor...) 😢
