Had to give you the Live From Chile version because the crowd shows why this is a big 4 band. The thing about Anthrax is they don’t have the angry sound and overtones of other thrash bands, it’s more of a fun sound. This is the band that for me into thrash because they did not have all that anger and made it accessible to my taste in music at the time. They in turn got me into Metallica, Megadeth, Testament, Overkill, etc. First thrash show I went to Anthrax and Testament, both Amazing live bands and now I officially became a thrash fan. Years later had the opportunity to promote an Anthrax show with the Mistfits (Awesome show), found out they were just some of the coolest most chill guys out there. After the show I had to drive them back to their hotel which was only a couple of minutes away. My car was a Mercury Capri convertible at the time, just slightly bigger than a Mazda Miata with a half back seat. I told them I would make 2 trips for them, they all just piled in my tiny car, with the top on cause it was raining and we’re just easy going and funny. So for all those out there that don’t get why they are big 4, they were the introduction to thrash for millions in the 80’s. I’m The Man and Bring the Noise both getting played on Headbanggers Ball and Yo MTV Raps. Introduced a whole new audience to thrash, and it wasn’t a marketing ploy, it’s just who these guys were. They didn’t need to be the heaviest, angriest band they just did what they did.

Agreed!! Agreed!!! I had pretty much started to listen to only Oi and Punk, NYHC at the point this album came out , BUT it was Anthrax and after one listen it becomes one of those albums that was so musically good,hard hitting that I always have had a copy of it in my collection in one form or another. No disrespect to John Bush ( I was on Armored Saint before anybody else in my high school were when March of the Saint came out)........yeah, no disrespect to John Bush ,but I'm a Joey Belladonna fan and this album was great start to finish. I Am the Law and Caught In A Mosh all that stuff still rages soooooooooooooo hard all these years later.

Anthrax is thrash but heavily influenced by punk/hardcore scenes and they kind of bridge the gap between punk and metal and they are the East coast (NYC) representative of the thrash scene. The other members of the Big 4 are rooted in California so their influences vary a bit. Compared to the rest of the thrash scene. They were early supporters of hip hop Scott always wore the Public Enemy shirts. I have seen them 4 times through the years twice with Joey Belladonna singing and twice with John Bush on vocals. John Bush is best known for his work with. Another thrash titan Armored Saint.

There is nothing like an Anthrax live show. I've seen them repeatedly and they bring it every time. There are one of the most energetic bands I've ever seen live. Among the Living is my favorite album but they have so many other great albums as well, including their albums with John Bush. The Bush stuff was a bit on the slower side but his vocals are more 'smooth' than Belladonna.

Great review! Love that your opinion is swaying in the right direction for Anthrax! The "problem" with getting introduced to this amazing band is they have some niche songs that a lot of casual Anthrax fans will recommended a song that was great at the time, and is also important in history...such as I'm the Man and also Antisocial, but not really a true representation of who Anthrax really is. They have their place, but there is so much better in Anthrax's catalog! I have been a fan since the mid 80's and have seen them live as recent a the past couple of months ago in Detroit, and are still kicking ass! The Among the Living album is considered one of the best thrash albums ever, and can be listened to from beginning to end. I would stay away from songs from State of Euphoria (based on your comments you would hate Antisocial!!) , as even the members of the band consider that one of their weaker albums. Song wise, I would check out I am the Law, Skeletons in the Closet, Keep it in the Family, AIR, and for newer songs Fight em til you Can't, The GIant, Evil Twin, and In the End is really good (slow but heavy and dedicated to Dimebag Darell and Dio). Hopefully you find more that you like though!
@sumonjamal16532 жыл бұрын
All you gotta do is check out 'Metal thrashing mad' by Anthrax (either the studio version w/ Neil Turbin on vocals, or live version w/ Joe Belladonna on vocals)... and that frantic Anthrax sound is right there in your face! Some of the more shredding Anthrax songs - 'Time'... 'I am the law'... "What doesn't die"... 'Schism'... 'A.I.R.' ... 'Room for one more' 🤘🤘 'Among the living' (the song and album) was from 1987, their first gold record & fan fave. The lyrics were about the Stephen King book 'The Stand', which was made into a TV miniseries in the 90's, and recently a limited series on Paramount+ ... The story begins w/ a plague called the 'superflu' or 'Captain Trips' breaking out of a US military research base and spreads across America like wildfire... Those who are not killed by the disease see law & order breaking down and the collapse of civilization as we know it. In the aftermath, cities are deserted and survivors start seeing dreams of an old lady named Mother Abigail telling them to come see her in Nebraska, and warns them that an evil man is also rounding up survivors to his cause... That figure is revealed to be Randall Flagg, a drifter who possesses powers and is building his base of followers and killing anyone who opposes him. The cover of 'Among the living' shows Randall Flagg in the middle of a crowd of people.

This somg was from the album, "Among the Living.," & it came out in 1986. In my opinion, it's the best album they made. Every song on the album is banging, including 'Indians,' which is a great song. I think you just forgot how good the song is after hearing their songs that don't talk to you. I suggested 'Indians,' on a superchat, & you seemed to like it. You weren't praising it or anything, but I don't remember you saying it was bad. Anyway, the album is full of bangers, but my favorite is probably "Caught in a Mosh." Though, I also really like "I am the Law." It's a song about 'Judge Dredd.' Check out a few jams from this album, & you'll dig Anthrax...Maybe you'll even check out another album, just pick wisely, there's a few that should be forgotten. Lol. Enjoy T...Glad you haven't given up on Anthrax...yet. 🤘🤪

The way to watch Anthrax is live. From that same show, Skeleton in the Closet. If you think this was intense, Skeleton in the Closet is relentless. Joey's vocals are better live in most cases, especially back in the 80s. Musically, they're even more intense on live recordings. This video was shot by fans and pieced together. The audio isn't as good. Skeleton in the Closet is an official video release and better audio quality.

Of the big 4, I place Anthrax at #2 behind only Slayer. Anthrax was like the little brother being funny, showing off because they were overshadowed by the other 3, but it really is their personality, which is awesome and refreshing. They did all kinds of different stuff, but their bread and butter is their searing riffs with rock solid bass/drum foundation and (at the time) Joey's soaring vocals. I take a lot of heat for my big 4 ordering, but everyone is different and if it were up to me, 1 of them wouldn't have allowed themselves to get so big as to forget the others and sellout... Just one old school thrashers opinion... I was there, I lived it, and I felt the disappointment from it. The music is still good, but the market manipulation and the direction left me behind - fortunately they picked up lots of replacements for me and the others disenfranchised.

-Maybe I'm old school, but I prefer to hear the original album cut of a song before judging a live version. Sorry, to say, not all bands sound good live(definitely NOT the case here, however). But, even so, you should give a listen to the original, regardless of how you like this live cut. But, maybe I'm biased. I first heard this album/song/band back in the eighties. -quick after thought: after you checked out the studio cut toward the end of the video...you commented that it sounded nothing like Anthrax from the 80's? Brother, that album came out in 1987.

Anthrax was my first metal band, so, I consider them to be the most consistent of the big four, despite all the lineup changes they've had.
