The song is about the death of Cliff Burton, Metallica's original bassist. Dave and Cliff were friends back when Dave was in Metallica. Dave was already pretty deep into heroin at that time, and an incident happened with some dogs that led Dave to whooping Hetfield's ass. He was thrown out of the band immediately after, and he's harbored both regret and anger against Metallica ever since. He said he wrote this song the night word reached him that Cliff had been killed after Metallica's bus flipped

Well, I read about this song in Dave’s autobiography (Mustaine: A Heavy Metal Memoir) and, although the song seems pretty straightforward, he confirmed in that book, pretty much, your interpretation of the song. This cd, although heavily underrated, came during a transitional period for the band. They had just replaced the drummer and one of the guitarists from their first two recordings and would replace those replacements for Rust in Peace, which followed this cd. That Rust in Peace lineup became their classic Megadeth lineup and it lasted for 10 years. As for the song, underrated as it is, this is one of their top five alltime songs. If you like this, you may love the stuff from their previous cd, Peace Sells……But Who’s Buying. Two great songs to listen to are Wake Up Dead and Peace Sells (Their best song.).

As indicated below the song takes on multiple reasons and rational. Everybody needs to remember that Dave had A LOT going on in life. He never did get over his being fired from Metallica, Girlfriend left him and musically Megadeath was always over shadowed and compared to Metallica. Basically put, The 80's and 90's were always a struggle for him! Not sure what Cliffs death had on him but yeah sure... They were once brothers so I can see some emotions tied to it! Sadly back in the 80's I was more on the Iron Maiden and Metallica bus than on Megadeath but I knew they were a great band back then. In my opinion I didn't really jump on the Megadeath bus until Peace sells album! But hey, I was a kid in the 80's with the entire world in front of me!

#RIPJelle My understanding of this song is that it briefly shows us the life of Job. When faced with the demand from God that he raise his eyes and face to reflect his own glory back at God...man wisely chose to cover his fatal wound and succumb to the patience of his Lord God to grant his death. The heavy torment after that was simply the depth of shame Job felt for whining. HAHAHA

Yea the beauty of song is the interpretation of it...especially in lhis one! On the surface it does seem to imply that it's about a relationship to a woman like a girlfriend or something but I actually have always interpreted it that it's a relationship with God.. or some other spiritual entity of sorts. It can even be interchangeable to make it even more confusing. This is one of the beauties of songs is the interpretation and either it's deliberate or unintentional.
