That means, to me, that there is going to be a 1 percent mega-rich class that is basically an aristocracy because when you are that wealthy, you hold so much more power. Also, if there is a floor, it should be as reasonably generous and comprehensive as possible. If robots and AI are going to be doing all the work, then why should anyone live in any form of austerity? If we have a government, it should be democratically elected, and we should have term limits. The second revolution electrified our world and lowered living costs with innovations like reinforced concrete. These transformations drove down costs and improved the standard of living for countless people.

AI alone will not change the world; it will be the mega corporations that drive this transformation. While tech experts laud the advancements of AI, they also acknowledge that it will put the majority of people in a worse position. Even as labor costs drop to nearly zero, product prices are unlikely to decrease significantly.

I think the equity fund is a better choice than UBI. I am also skeptical of the government's ability to make it happen in the short timeline that the rapid advances in technology are forcing upon us. To that end, I think everyone who can, should be doing whatever they can to prepare themselves and their families for the turbulent times of the next decade or so. Get out of debt, build up an emergency fund, and invest in companies that are going to do well in the Age of Intelligent machines. From what I have seen, most politicians, indeed, most people, have no real idea of what is coming and no idea of how fast it is coming. A UBI is going to be a hard sell if mainstream politicians don't see the changes coming. An equity fund that serves to level out some of the income disparity we currently have might be saleable.

I remember reading that article and watching your vid on it 2 years ago, my most pressing concern with that is, sam altmans already been slightly proven to be a lofty handwavey smooth talker when it comes to these things. While his vision is admirable it is slightly naive. every revolution before hand yes has created new wealth and jobs, but it has also automated away entire disciplines and livelihoods. AI being the most powerful revolution being that it can automate the most valuable trait of human beings intelligence. If so while the cost of goods and labors for all tasks will trend down to zero with sufficiently powerful ai like you say its unlikely that the slow moving gears of government/politicians/bureacracy and especially capitalism will work as he imagined in this so called utopian vision. We've seen where governments have stifled the progress of innovation/competition/ and technology by whole heartedly banning things, freezing movement, piling immovable regulations etc...,We've also seen the case where if a factory/warehouse gets automated away by a new technology the first thing the ceo/business owner does isn't to increase wages and keep people. Its to fire them all in the pursuit of profit, and to increase the price of their commoditized product not trend it towards zero(e.g. inflation continues and you eventually price out everyone until your product only goes to enterprise customers). The exceding gap between the rich and the poor could expand tremendously. Now if all those people get out of work and ubi isn't enough to sufficiently fix things then only 1 thing remains and thats violence and turmoil(or even "extremely dystopian" I know population culling/depopulation). sooo while sure it can have tremendous good I tend to be slightly wary of people who obfuscate the tremendous bad and tradeoffs that can happen there is no nothing from something so whatever price is paid it could be in many ways limited to less people in the future than more who knows> I hope for good but also see the bad.

While this all sounds good, it is always greatly ignored that if everyone got handouts and AI or robots took over our roles, humans become obsolete to the big powers and people become so depressed (as we’ve already seen) because they feel worthless and valueless with no purpose. Not only that, but under the guise of financial freedom, people will actually be 100% controlled slaves with no say in anything, have to shut up and put up, and be scrutinised for even breathing. It is extremely important for people to see not only the negatives of AI explosion, but also who the ones in charge will be leading that drive. Our current govs will only be more empowered. So if you think your country is terribly ran right now, like many have become, just 1000x that when they control every aspect of your life with AI and monetary handouts. It is widely acknowledged that the human mind has evolved primarily as a survival tool over millions of years. In the absence of a structured work environment and the necessity to solve problems, the human mind may experience a decline, potentially leading to conditions such as depression, paranoia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and even psychopathy. Eliminating the need to address and resolve daily challenges creates an unfavorable combination of neurotic thoughts and behaviors that tend to worsen over time. There is some validity to the adage that "idle hands are the devil's playthings."

@@DJWESG1 it is mathematically impossible for the economy to develop as described in this document; capital without human labor cannot multiply except in a fictitious and fraudulent way. It will be impossible to allocate that sum of money to citizens to make them live incomparably better than today, because simply a tragic capitalist crisis of collapse of the rate of profit will arrive much sooner, causing the world to fall back into barbarism as in the 1900s. The only solution would be to abolish wage labor, money, the market, capital, moving to a resource-based economy, but this would mean the end for the ruling classes, which is obviously impossible with the mass ideologies currently conveyed and with the current geopolitical situation. Or expand humanity into outer space creating a potentially infinite market, but this would take too long to avoid the crisis triggered by AI. Or grant AI civil, political and property rights, but this would not eliminate the problem of reducing humanity to a subordinate role. Or the capitalist classes could order a ban on the development of AI, limiting it to extremely controlled uses by the states, such as nuclear technologies, but this would of course negate the progress that has been hypothesized and would not stop the military confrontation between empires. The general crisis is inevitable, and the development of AI will accelerate it; at this point it is even possible that I could experience it in my lifetime, something I would not have believed possible only a year ago.

Sincere thanks for sharing this late albeit critically important blog. Wow Sam Altman published this back in 2021 and mainstream media saw fit not to deep dive the potential upending of western democracy….. To my shame, I too had no idea about Altman’s blog especially as I have spent the last couple of years (i) Penning the occasional warnings on mainstream science and economic webcasts (ii) Searching when I can for any practical alternatives to capitalism… Love or hate capitalism it is the only system of wealth creation that has resulted in the benefits enjoyed by westerners today. Without a doubt and unlike any other technological revolution, AI will destroy far more jobs than it can creates. Remove jobs and you remove the market which will remove capital investment (private and public). In the meantime societies will steadily become less manageable / stable ushering in a dark renaissance of “haves and have nots” with all that implies (authoritarianism / revolution / civil unrest and war)
@DiceDecides3 ай бұрын
So Sam Altman wrote this in 2021, that is before GPT-3, maybe they had it internally idk, I do like what is written about reducing costs and money being worth way more, it's like opposite of inflation - deflation... I think once robots start building houses quickly the prices will fall naturally - supply>demand=cheap

Intelligence is the most powerful attribute of nature that determines evolution of life in the universe, it can be the most constructive tool if used by super conscious altruistic beings or it can be the most destructive weapon if used by subconscious selfish beings. As we are about to pass on this natural gift of intelligence to machines and with the imminent rise of AGI, the ultimate question we have to ask ourselves is what kind of beings we want to be living with and how do we make sure that the sentient machines will be altruistic and not selfish beings? This answer alone will determine the future of humanity. Swami SriDattaDev SatChitAnanda

6:23 as far as policies that could help with the possible displacements of many people, I believe we kind of had a dress rehearsal of this during the pandemic. Remember that people could not go to work and so during that period of time the government issued stimulus checks. Also notice that that extra 5.7 trillion dollars that we had to spend out of thin air was not really debated and there was no real worry about the debt ceiling. The downside of that was that because we paid people to do nothing and productivity went down and supply chain systems collapse will then after that we had a fair amount of inflation and we still have some of that right now. Now the difference is when we start having labor costs going down to zero essentially and intelligent AI figuring out how to manufacture goods with the cheapest materials possible that maybe we cannot even use it this moment well then the inflationary problems of continued stimulus checks in this future will also be nearly zero. Basically the long and the short of it is that more money can be key stroked and issued into circulation without the worries of inflation because there will be drastic deflation the exact opposite of what was happening during the pandemic.

If an equity fund got 2.5% of every company's value every year, in 40 years the equity fund owns all companies. In 20 years or less, it controlls all companies. Taxing land at 2.5% a year would collapse the value of that land at least 50%, so it'll yield far less income than expected.

I think this whole video is missing that ai will bring massive inflation, generating more wealth means that there is usually more buying power and if there’s more buying power the price of the goods will increase in result to that. It’s quite naive to assume that our current buying power will be just as “great” as it is now, let alone better. Love ai and all, but when it comes to this I believe that sometimes people are blinding themselves on purpose for the sake of hype

Even with the equity fund though, the numbers don't work. I know, it is absolutely maddening. If you look at government stats, then yes it could potentially work in some rural areas, but I hate to break it to you, landlords, food producers, and utilities are not going to lower prices because of technological innovation. Prices will be *raised* by about $13k a year. I honestly don't have a huge problem with this plan *if and only if* it is coupled with Universal Basic Services. Basically the bottom two level of Maslow's. Those things are removed from the market distortions an equity fund would create so rent doesn't double over night due to greedy landlords/slumlords. Anything that isn't for dignity and modern living runs on market forces. And everyone has discretionary $13k/yr to, I dunno, upgrade their living situation, save, use on aspirational things, additional education, charity, art, music, whatever. But equity or UBI without Basic Services is a recipe for utter, utter, I mean utter disaster.
