I have been involved in conflict management and physical restraint for over 30 years .. I use to be an SIA trainer and stopped because I do not believe that the physical part of the course is adequate and does not prepare people to be competent to physically manage truly aggressive people. I refuse to teach it and give false hope. There is little to no pressure testing so what is the yard stick to measure if someone can manage another individual on their own in self defence or as a team. The law says staff need to be trained to be competent, Section 2 (2), Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 .. Passing a course like this does not make you that !!! Being trained this way will cause people to get injured at the first sign of trouble because they are brain washed to believing that they have the skill, knowledge and judgment to manage aggressive individuals. SIA need to revisit the PI element. Get this right give good people the proper skills to do the job correctly !!!

+Jovan Lazic I'm a head Doorman and I would agree with SIA trainer that verbal skills are paramount but the physical intervention skills is a complete joke and of no use whatsoever. When on occasion the punter or punters want to throw hands or indeed attempt to stab or glass you then these skills or relying on them will get you seriously hurt or at least in physical trouble. Not the SIA trainers fault after all he is making money teaching you this; in his heart of hearts if he is an experienced Doorman then he will be thinking WTF!

Been a doorman for 20 years, been attacked more times than I care to remember, but no one has ever grabbed my wrist. This is like Aikido without the hakamas. Total BS. If you’re a doorman and want to make it home in one piece, study boxing and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. BJJ for restraining people, standing preferably. Boxing for when all else fails. Other than that, use your experience and wit. I find a sense of humour can go a long way in this game, shows people you don’t take yourself too seriously, people look at you as someone else doing their job as opposed to a “bouncer”

I've done this type of training to deal with behaviours from those with severe autism. I can assure anyone that it does not work. You go with your own instinct at that moment in time, if it means not getting your arm bitten then you will try anything other than what you've been trained.

Been at doors in Luton and have done some notoriously insane no go Venues on busy nights. You know when things about to kick off and sometimes it happens without any signs. 9/10 times your experience backed up by common sense will get you out of trouble and that 1 time you will have to resort to old school type conflict management. This sort of training provides students with artificial sense of security that they have what it takes to control and diffuse violent situation, in reality when the bell rings and you hear code red on the headset you see them become confused and looking lost. It's best to go through the course but not to rely on it to get you out of trouble, you spent time and learn but also safe guard your own safety.

I worked as a"doorman" for over ten years and started just before the whole S.i.a thing came to play. Now I think the key to being a good doorman is diplomacy and tact, but there are occasions where you have no choice to go down a physical route. The physical/conflict training in this video is absolutely laughable, wouldn't work in a real situation in the slightest.

If you have locked in fast enough it no one could get a punch look the pressure hard seen it done to a massive guy in a night club and he tried to punch and couldn't do anything what so ever. IV been on door for over 23 years and I did this course last year to keep myself up to date in my qualifications. But trust me the SIA course for doing door work is 99.9% a waste of time and money and the physical intervention part is a complete joke. All that hand on wrist stuff wont work mate. You get some pissed off drunk who lifts weights and has a roid issue and try and grab his wrist while he is frantic... I bet my ass you wont manage it. The best thing to learn is pre emptive strikes for blunt force trauma. Hit hard hit fast and hit first if the guy is too big to grapple with. Classroom teaching only brings you up to date on how the government want you to do things. Guys who dont work at 2am on a Sat night.

If you try the stuff shown in this video on a drunk, drugged up fella who is kicking off 1. It's not going to work and you're just going to aggravate him more and 2. You're going to get seriously hurt. A lot of this is just escape and break away and then the instructor moves BACKWARDS from the individual, what kind of signal is that giving out if you're backing away? Doesn't take a genius.

The training is inadequate for job, no one can have a weekend course can be trained to deal with intoxicated members of the public. When it comes to using the training the conscience will kick in and you will freeze. I've done aikido which is a martial art that is designed for getting out of a situation with without causing harm to the individual because aikido is all about redirecting the positive flow of energy coming from the person stepping towards you.

how they can expect door staff to be safe on the job is beyond me, a P.I course is just another bit of paper the government wants you to pay for. Ask any DS with abit of experience and they'll tell you that 9 times out of 10 the techniques you learn in class aren't goin to be effective in real world environments. Bit of advice, learn a grappling based martial art, train week in week out and and you might stand a chance, but a 12 hour course for one day aint gonna give you fuck all

This video and door security licensing is an to attempt teach the customer service aspect and legitimize bouncing due to the reputation some bouncers were giving the trade. Many bouncers have abused their position and have made ill fated decesions affecting both the punter and themselves, these coarses are designed to filter who can attain a security position and also carry-out their work with minimal risk for all parties. However, breaking a grip and parrying a punch will only get you so far.

I think there should be a bit of both sides as I have seen for the last year or so at least 6 times that door staff get outnumbered and beet down long before the police could arrive mostly because the could not do anything to a person when they where one to one or worse 3 to 1. witch in the old days would not happen because the people attacking would not have the balls to jump them. But these days they just don't have any respect for door supervisors...

Most of the techniques have been designed to work well in demonstrations and are incredibly "learnable" and easy to evidence apparent competence! There is no real self defence and nothing useful should you find yourself in a fight! Some of the light physical restraint and escorting techniques will work for semi compliaint people. A focus on team-based restraint should be the main thing, together with highly pressure tested knife defence techniques. Beyond that - you should invest in your own fitness, strength and CQC skills over many years, and make sure that you have a few guys who are of that calibre on any operational team to bridge the gap that the "new breed" of door supervisors has created!
@securitytrained4224
@securitytrained4224 7 жыл бұрын
To be a door supervisor today you need the best possible training by trainers with decades of experience! Not only that they must be able to teach it's all well and good being an expert but, if you don't have the ability to embed your skills into others it's a problem. There are some on the door to today that have had 'fast buck' training and are at risk injuring themselves or others or with the law.

Misleading video- The home office do not approve techniques outside of HM prison and juvenile secure estate. Toolbox of techniques? Unfortunately many of these techniques (like many others taught in the industry) are too complex in the out of control moment. Training is a science and the platform for developing any non physical and/or physical skill should be underpinned by physiology, psychology and human emotions.

ive done door and festival work since the early 90,s the sia was introduced basickly to get rid of the residential hardmen with violent criminal backgrounds that worked the door with no training other than to smash your face in if they didnt like you, i saw this alot as i started security during these times, worked with so many of them, the sia wants to ensure a safer friendlier approach to customer care, people dont want to be terrified of the doormen, back in the day the public was , now we have to be nice and polite and try to ensure them a safe and happy time, though i will say the sia physical intervention training can and will get you hurt, its not realisticly based, a fight in real life isnt choreographed, and the locks used will not deter a big/ strong and very determined opponent, or someone with fighting knowledge, we should not forget however that most apponents will possibly be pissed out of their heads by time they kick off with us so they wont be as sharp or accurate with their hands but let me tell you that addrenaline is an amazing thing, so dont assume cos their drunk they wont have the capacity to knock you about, i am a 3 dan black belt at kickboxing and former instructor, im also very experienced in krav maga, this training has gotten me out of a number of nasty situations when shit really hits the fan, so heres a heads up to those wanting to do door work, dont just do the sia and think your ready, get some training in combat behind you just to help give you an edge, a martial art such as bjj or krav maga is recomended, but again only use if necessary, end of the night or day if it does come to blows then we,ve failed.

Well said. I am about to go on an S.I.A door supervisor training course. I actually worked as a "Doorman" 16 years ago - when all you needed was a local council badge. I'm going back to the work - but of course need an S.I.A license. Even the people teaching these drills know they're useless, but hey-ho, they get paid to teach it. Of course, the Nightclub owners and Doorman agencies have less chance of being sued if/when a punter gets hurt. As they can say that they employed licensed doormen who "did the correct training".
