The International trailer #2 has SO MANY new and different scenes and really focuses on the animal rights part of the story. It even shows the chalkboard with "ANIMALS SHOULD BE SEEN NOT HEARD" written on it. Please react to that one!

I unexpectedly started ugly-crying about 20 seconds in, and was still a mess five minutes after. Maybe I need a cry, but still. The first film I saw was The Wizard of Oz at age 4, I owned all 14 Oz books by Baum and a few of the Thompson ones, I first saw Wicked on Broadway in 2005, I saw Idina play Elphaba in London in 2007, I met Gregory Maguire... this is so emotional for me.

With regards to the international trailers, countries that have had the musical translated and performed locally use the lyrics from the translations. The German trailer uses a couple of lines from Defying Gravity in German, same for the Flemish (Dutch) trailer and the Mexican trailer.

What I loved about my first time watching the stage musical is not knowing who the antagonists were and being shocked. I wish they would removed the following lines from future trailers: "Don't let her get away...this wicked witch" & "It's the wizard who should be afraid of me." Or they should have those play in the background as audio without showing who is saying those lines.

I will never look at the white cliffs of Dover in the same way again. So the entrance to the school in Oz is through the White Cliffs of Dover. Who knew? 😂. The White Cliffs of Dover are in England, for those who don’t know. Well, the cliffs are part of Englands coastline. There’s even a famous World War II song called the White Cliffs of Dover. Do have a listen to that song if you haven’t heard it. Love the new trailer on your reactions to it.

It would be interesting to somehow survey readers and find out how many people did not finish reading Maguire's novel. I found it to be incredibly cynical and depressing, with no likeable characters, and to have a level of emotionless and irresponsible sexual promiscuity that simply does not resonate with most people. I think a lot of people bought it thinking it was going to be a fun read and then couldn't bear to finish it because it's just so cringe and weird and icky. What actually sold most of the copies of the novel, which initially sold only 500,000 copies, was the success of the entirely different, far more life-affirming, stage musical. Winnie Holzman is the mother of what we see in the musical and will see in the film, even though she kept some of Mcguire's names. It's a shame she doesn't get the primary credit for this far more successful and worthwhile work. It's also deeply concerning that there's going to be a release of Maguire's novel coincident with the movie because a lot of people, including parents, are going to buy it thinking it's something that it's not. And that doesn't even get us into the issue of how many will let their kids read it, not realizing it's R/NC-17 rated as well as horribly cold and cynical.

Just hope they make it different from the musical cuz I like the musical but I felt like the novel had more teeth to it. Elphaba in the book actually TURNS into the wicked witch. She just lets that identity define her. A tragedy but that’s why we love her. But I get it. We gotta feel sympathy for the villains now and I wish that wasn’t the case.

I hate the convo at 21:00 I wish it wasn’t a political statement relating to racism. This conversation always comes up when someone black is casted as Elphaba. I personally thought it was just them celebrating her being dead or like satisfying her spirit so it doesn’t return. (Which is a few purposes of burning effigies) I wish it was just because they hate the witch and not the political parallel of black trauma. Would this have been the same meaning if a white woman was casted as Elphaba? I thought we discussed this same issue when it comes to Wicked the Musical
