I just finished making a double batch, and I used aplle sauce instead of oil. I baked them 15 minutes and they are chewy and delicious! I also omitted the white sugar on the top. Thanks for the recipe!

I made these cookies for the first time, OH my gosh, absolutely delicious. Iam a senior citizen, my former all through .y younger life i absolutely loved baking. It seems everything I have cooked in recent years nothing, including my cooking, and the baking. I prayed that God lead me through this and support to make sure mine turned out just as the recipe says. I was going to be making Christmas cookies and they turned out awful. I am alone and by my self so every once in a while I get 5he baking angel telling me it is time to make something yummy, I did and ended up taking a full cookie sheet of 48 over to neighbors and friends. Well, they are wanting more

I’m sorry I missed this! Honey is a similar consistency but the flavor will be very off ☹️ I really can’t think of a good sub for molasses. BUT my s’mores cookies call for honey! Maybe try those next ❤️😘

Do you know how much applesauce we would use? I tried this tonight with applesauce instead of canola oil (same measurements) and the dough was as runny as cake batter. I thought I must have forgot a cup of flour, I must have done 1.5 cups instead of 2.5 cups so I put another cup of flour in. It was still as runny as thick cake batter. I baked the cookies and they came out like a dense cake. Any ideas? I'm not new to baking either! So weird

can you use an oil other than canola? coconut maybe?
@TheAnthonyKitchen2 жыл бұрын
I think vegetable oil would be a fine sub. It's 100% interchangeable with canola in both flavor and behavior in a recipe. But as for coconut, I've not tested it so I really can't say for sure and would hate to steer you in the wrong direction! ❤️

Great question! Baking soda and baking powder are both chemical leaveners but they do not work the same way or accomplish the same results, so to get the correct texture for this recipe you will need baking soda :)

@TheAnthonyKitchen3 жыл бұрын
Of course! Here you go! Ingredients 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 2 teaspoons ground ginger 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon fine sea salt 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves 1 cup light brown sugar packed 3/4 cup + 2 tablespoons canola oil 1/3 cup dark molasses 1 large egg 1/2 cup coarse sugar crystals if desired Instructions Preheat oven to 325° and have ready a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or a Silpat. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking soda, salt and cloves. Set aside until ready to use. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, add the sugar, oil, molasses and egg. Mix on medium speed until well-combined. If you do not have a stand mixer, use a large mixing bowl and a handheld mixer. With the mixer on low, begin adding in the dry ingredients a little at a time until all has been incorporated. Take a moment to scoop up any dough from the bottom of the bowl, and bring it up and over the top. Resume mixing on low speed for about 30 seconds to a minute more. This step ensures all ingredients are thoroughly combined. Have sugar crystals ready in a small bowl. Scoop out a tablespoon of dough and form into a ball. Roll the top half in the sugar and place at least 1 inch apart on parchment paper. Bake 14 minutes, remove from the oven and set atop a cooling rack. Allow to cool 5-10 minutes, serve and enjoy.
