COLLECTORS FLOCK TO SHOW | ANTIQUE & VINTAGE SHOPPING | RESALE
For two days each June, the fascinating town of New Harmony relives its utopic origins as a magnet for collectors, vintage hunters and resellers coming to the town’s annual antique show!
I’m here as the guest appraiser at the event, and since I never buy items brought to me at appraisal fairs, I have to hit the streets (and the air-conditioned shops and gymnasium) to shop the dozens of dealers who come from several states to participate. There’s a lot of fun things to see!
Come with me as we go through the town’s terrific offerings, and see what catches our eye (and my wallet) as I shop indoors and out during the few breaks I get from my appraisal work. From mid-century to 19th century, we see a lot of great antiques and vintage, find some real deals and share information about all that we see. So much fun to have antique shows again!
Here’s more of what we see at this surprisingly complete small town antique fest:
RC Cola clock, Minton pitcher, feed store advertising signs, sterling salt dips, Tiffany wax candle, ad silhouette, tobacco tags & humidor, ad pencils, galvanized well dipper, faience humidor, Currier & Ives prints, blow molds, type drawers, print blocks, bagatelle, Model Toys crane, McCoy butterfly, Heywood Wakefield spinning coffee table, rattan end tables, pirate lamp, hotel keys, Charles Bragg prints, pay phone, parking meter, galvanized double sink, concrete eagle, printer’s trays, wall hanging shelf, Order of Forester’s litho, taxi ashtray, butterfly chairs, 1920s center table, Moser vase, convertible shelf/table, Marx Jeep & trailer, Whiting & Davis mesh purse, orange Italian bead strand, Glasbake crab shells, typewriter tins, incubator, art deco wagon, churns, wainscot flour bin, Hull Corky Pig, Waterford depression glass, boot stretchers, industrial mold, black Americana books, tramp art shells, two-tone insulator, Husar D. pin, clock compact, quilts, pie safe, cafe arrow sign, corner dry sink, curry comb, doors, gym bench, ribbon rack, trencher, frogs, happy face, Red WIng cooler, Aladdin kerosene lamps, wainscot counter, plantation shutters, political memorability, shakers, linen rack, Mary Porter paintings, child’s pull cart, teddy bears, Bement pottery, etc.

If there’s a broken bead, you can crack the whole bead with needle nose pliers til it falls off, then use the slack created to re-tie one end of the string. That helps the stability of the necklace because the ends by the clasp get the most wear and you’d be getting rid of one worn end. And those trench art vases are amazing! They are embossed (repousse?) with my birth flower! I’ve never seen florals on trench art. Thank you for sharing this neatness!

That well pipe sure brought back memories. This was the kind of well my grandparents had way down in Stearns KY. the well itself was not the normal open hole. it was a terra cotta pipe sunk deep into the earth with a metal cap on it. built over it was an arbor like structure that held the pulley and the pipe we saw for sale here at the beginning of the video. this metal pipe was on a long rope, threaded through the pulley and attached to the other side of the arbor. when we needed water in the kitchen one of the children was elected to go fill the bucket. you would remove the cap and drop the metal pipe down the terra cotta pipe and it would make a glug, glug, glug noise as it filled up with water. once it was quiet, you would pull it back up and put the metal pipe in the bucket and pull the handle on the top of the pipe. the water would WOOSH into the bucket. A real thrill for a city kid visiting their country grandparents. Not so fond of the outhouse though.

At 32:56, I believe that’s an Iranian brass and copper tray. Probably 1960s or early 70s. I wish I could have seen it close up. There is a huge difference between Indian Brass and Persian brass, quality-wise, and it cleans up beautifully...I’m always on the lookout for Persian brass, and things like the trays and chafing dishes look great with mid century modern furniture.
@TheAntiqueNomad
@TheAntiqueNomad Жыл бұрын
Thank you for that help! I wasn't sure, but I had noticed that the Persian pieces I felt were identified correctly seemed less "brassy" and were heavier castings than Indian pieces.
@carolzilko2643
@carolzilko2643 Жыл бұрын
Indian brass IS heavier, thicker, than Persian brass. Persian brass is, I think, more finely detailed and intricate. The artisanship in their metals is so, so refined. Compare the two, if you can, and you’ll see that the Indian brass seems…clunkier, and not as artistically exquisite as the Persian is. I do NOT use the chafing dishes to serve food, as they are lead lined. But they look great on tables and sideboards.

Hey George! That Blondie ring toss game was interesting. I like the old comics/cartoon items. I have one of the old printers' drawers as a shadow box, with wood spools of thread and a complete collection of the Wade Nursery Rhyme whimseys in it. I have a pair of the Blackamoor genie lamps, in the green. There was a figure from one there. I like those in the green, and the Alexander Backer genies in the green. Love that Tiffany wax lamp! Always wanted one of those glass churns. I have my great-grandmother's five gallon and my grandmother's three gallon crock churns. There was a primitive mortar and pestle there that really caught my eye. I'd have likely had to have that. That toy/mini wagon was super interesting! Great video, and a lot of interesting items there! Thanks for the take-along!!!

I couldn't agree more! It's sad that the English instilled such hatred to keep the slaves and the white indentured servants from mingling (they were afraid they'd be overthrown). If people realized how racism was used by the ruling class to divide us, maybe we'd all get over it
